Give me your best recommendations! I’m looking for anything a bit dark/spooky…

movies, TV shows, podcasts about true crime, paranormal investigations … fictional is also good - any horror, crime or thriller movies/series I should see?

I feel I’ve seen it all already. Need new ideas!

I promise I’m a generally normal person but I just can’t get enough of this stuff for some reason 😂

I've just watched on itvx - A confession, and Without sin. Both worth a watch, true crime.

Mind hunter is very good, if it's still on Netflix. Also Missing dead or alive on Netflix.

MyEyesAreBleeding · 13/05/2023 03:00

The serpent on Netflix was really good. True story

AnyaMarx · 13/05/2023 03:01

Try and find host - was on iplayer but seems to have gone

AnyaMarx · 13/05/2023 03:02

Serpent is brilliant but is a
Serial killer series -

Host is a one off for Halloween aired on bbc - very Blair witch .

Allmyghosts · 13/05/2023 03:04

I liked the mystery thing on prime with Peter Capaldi midnight hour? Devil's hour?

Allmyghosts · 13/05/2023 03:06

Also true detective

AnyaMarx · 13/05/2023 03:13

True detective season one I've watched 6 times .....it's just amazing

I love the actors and their characters. Could t get into season 2 at all (different cast ) tried so hard

Newname2323 · 13/05/2023 03:19

Kendall Rae on YouTube

PaintingTheSky · 13/05/2023 03:21

If you have prime, there is a good 3 part programme about the Ipswich sex worker murders.
Also a series on prime called See no evil.
On Netflix, the Indian crime programmes are really good, particularly one titled Delhi crime.

itsrainin · 13/05/2023 03:26

The most interesting thing I watched recently was the Netflix documentary on Lori Vallow. It isn’t necessarily high quality, but it has lots of twists. I wasn’t familiar with the media coverage at the time so generally the events were all new to me though.

Dunnoburt · 13/05/2023 03:27

Netflix is brilliant....Nightstalker, Dahmer, the ripper, Ted bundy confession tapes also a weird one which I think was called vanishing at the hotel Cecil.....honestly just get Netflix there are millions of true crime docs!!!!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 13/05/2023 03:28

Presume you know about “Uncanny” on Radio 4.

The thing is Netflix has loads of American documentaries which I can’t always get into. I just feel like some are heavily dramatised?

Olivida98 · 13/05/2023 09:58

Literally ALL of these are new to me! I’m so happy that it’s Saturday today - gonna get a bottle of wine and start working through this list tonight 😄Thank you!!

Murdaugh murders on Netflix. True story, we've one more episode to watch.

this is fantastic. True story about a guy called Mike.

Trigger point on itvx - vicky mclure.. Drama but amazing. About a bomb squad.

Evil Genius: the True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist. True crime documentary on Netflix.

The confession on prime, 2 part documentary. A slower show than others but I'm glad I persevered. True crime documentary.

The twelve on itvx. Australian drama, about a murder.

Des - itvx.Dramatisation of a serial killer, true crime. David tenant stars.

These are ones I'd recommend. Love to know how you got on.

Blue lights on I player is fantastic. Police drama set in Northern Ireland, but perhaps I'm biased.

OlympicProcrastinator · 14/05/2023 09:05

The Uncanny podcast on BBC. Great stuff. Also Danny Robbins The Witch Farm, also on BBC podcasts. Both true stories.

Xrays · 14/05/2023 09:12

A confession on ITVX is really good. It led to me going down a rabbit hole googling Christopher Halliwell and reading a lot about it all.

The Girl in the Basement on Paramount is interesting. Based partly on the Fritzl case. It’s a bit cheaply made, feels very Tv ish but still interesting.

Three Girls on Netflix about the Rotherham grooming scandals.

Fredthefrog · 14/05/2023 09:14

Magnus Archives podcast. Fictional horror podcast. Think there are 5 seasons.

Dontlickthat · 14/05/2023 09:17

Username0987 · 14/05/2023 13:05

Youtube Lazy Masquerade and Mr Ballen

frankie001 · 14/05/2023 13:42

Mr Ballen, Lazy Masquerade and My Favourite Murder!

Ballen is a pod cast and also on YouTube, lazy is on you tube and MFM is a podcast.

CoffeeCantata · 14/05/2023 15:38

Years ago (2006?) there was a BRILLIANT drama series on the paranormal with Leslie Sharp called Afterlife. I don't know if it's on YouTube or a box set, but it's superb.

Also that great series set in a Glasgow University Dept of the Paranormal (if only!) with Bill Paterson in the main role. Excellent...Sea of Souls, it was called. The one with the twin sisters (played by Siobhan Redmond) is superb.

Currently - are you watching Inside No. 9 by Steve Pemberton and Rees Sheersmith? Not always paranormal, but with a twist and very, very dark and unsettling - and sometimes funny too, to be fair.

On YouTube I like Brief Case true crime - once you get over the rather idiosyncratic narration, it's really well-researched and brilliant for historic and very dark crime cases.

RicherThanYews · 14/05/2023 15:48

Rhe suggestions here have been tv shows, documentaries and radio programmes so I'll give you film recommendations (I scored them highly during my own voyage into the darkness 😁).

Ouija
Ouija: origins of evil
Evil Dead Rise
The Pope's Exorcist
Hellhouse LLC
Summer of 84
Within (possibly on Netflix, DM me if not)
Deliver us from Evil
The Rite (w/ Anthony Hopkins).
Poltergeist 1 + 2

TiptoeThroughTheToadstools · 14/05/2023 15:53

I've just watched the conjuring 1, 2 and 3, the Nun and Annabelle. I'd also recommend Neon Demon, and one that I'd never heard of until last week called Babadook which is excellent!
