Give me your best recommendations! I’m looking for anything a bit dark/spooky…

movies, TV shows, podcasts about true crime, paranormal investigations … fictional is also good - any horror, crime or thriller movies/series I should see?

I feel I’ve seen it all already. Need new ideas!

I promise I’m a generally normal person but I just can’t get enough of this stuff for some reason 😂

I think I might watch haunt on netflix tonight.... anyone seen it? Is it shite? 🤔

HipHop63 · 02/02/2024 13:56

If you have Netflix, American Murder: The Family Next Door, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at Hotel Cecil, Evil Genius, The Staircase (documentary not film), Making a Murderer (probably the best documentary ever), Don't F**K with Cats, The Tinder Swindler, , American Manhunt: THe Boston Bombing, 22nd July (very good), The Good Nurse

Non crime, but good: The Social Dilemma, The Wall, Cheers, My Octopus Teacher, The Hatchet Welding Hitchhiker, The Social Dilemma, Athelete A

I came on to say almost all of those @HipHop63

NickyOy · 02/02/2024 14:21

Do you have discovery plus? There are hundreds of documentaries on there, true crime, paranormal and everything in between. Some British ones like Faking It (all about body language etc of police interviews and public appeals) and a lot of American stuff. Im currently binging on Murder on CCTV, there's 11 series and have also watched curious case of Natalia grace, as well as Gypsys revenge (about gypsy rose Blanchard). How to create a sex scandal was also really good. It's around 40 quid for a years subscription.

I like 48 hours on YT. Mainly American crimes being solved/cold cases.

Adam mark explores on Facebook, he does paranormal investigations in abandoned houses with the creepiest music box ever, it’s put the willies up me this week

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 02/02/2024 14:56

@Bigbadbinfire i watched last night it was a bit rubbish I won’t lie, a couple of shock moments that was it

piscofrisco · 02/02/2024 15:02

Magnus Archives podcast. Fictional horror podcast. Think there are 5 seasons.

There's a new series out called Magnus Protocols by the same people. DD is enthralled.

Also Archive 81 supernatural horror series on Netflix. It's based on a podcast of the same name.

pyewatchet · 02/02/2024 15:09

Also the Lovecraft Investigations series on BBC Sounds. Modernised Lovecraft stories as true crime podcasts.

Bigbadbinfire · 02/02/2024 15:11

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii thanks! Maybe I'll rethink my Friday night viewing

QuickDraining · 02/02/2024 15:38

Apple+: The Shrink Next Door, Black Bird.

QuickDraining · 02/02/2024 15:40

I never find anything good particularly Horror wise. But if you like Gorror, then then Evil Dead Series: Ash vs Evil Dead is great. The Watcher was quite good.

They were brilliant weren't they? Most of those were on during lockdown, there's not really been anything half decent since then I don't think.

Poppysmom22 · 05/02/2024 13:21

@HipHop63 no I have been struggling for new content too

A lot of stuff now is foreign true crime, with subtitles and I can't follow it, I get very bored.

Lets see if I can help you......have you tried the dramatisation true crime on Discovery +. Can't think of any examples now. The Social Media Murders was interesting. I really like the dramatisation of true crime. The Good Nurse was fascinating and 22nd July, very sad though.

Have you watched Phrogging, Hider in my Home - that was brilliant? And Fear Thy Neighbour? I've watched all the episodes.

SausageRoll5862 · 15/02/2024 11:35

I love that type of subject too!

Books: I'm currently reading Bigfoot A Collection of Unsettling Encounters. Surprising Encounters With Bigfoot in the United States by Ursula Vega.

I borrowed from the library Serial Killers of Mexico. Chilling Stories of Evil Buried Beneath the Narcos Drug Wars by Wensley Clarkson.
