How long for passport renewal at the moment?

Hi all, any experience of how long it’s taken to do a child passport renewal while the Passport Office strike’s on? Trying to weigh up whether to pay for an appointment or just do it the standard way… thank you!

Did mine online april 11th. Got new one a fortnight later.

I've just done an adult renewal. 4 weeks in total

I’d do a search here for “passport“ and decide if it was worth the extra money for not being one of the people panicking due to a delay.

mine (straight forward adult renewal) seems to be really quick, the biggest delay was me finding the time to get to the post office! It's due for delivery tomorrow.

27/04/23 - application submitted
02/05/23 - sent off old passport
03/05/23 - old passport received
04/05/23 - application approved
05/05/23 - passport printed
06/05/23 - passport dispatched

16 days for child renewal. Got it last week

Our child renewal was submitted 14th April and we got it back last week.

DH’s was submitted 2 weeks later and it’s not back yet.

Under 3 weeks. Did application with a digital photo.

My adult one came back within a week recently, couldn't believe it

Sat 22nd April - applied online
Tues 25th - sent old passport
Thurs 27th - old passport received
Fri 28th - received new passport 😱

Just got DS’s renewed - took less than 3 weeks.

I’ve just done an adult renewal (received the new one on Friday) and it took 3 weeks in total

DH did his renewal recently and it took less than a week all in. Obviously not a child one but a renewal all the same.

Using the standard service could be a gamble. I did DW and DD renewals at the same time. DW's took 11 days. DD's took 8 weeks. I'd go for the 1 week fast track service and not risk it for the extra £70ish. Rather that than bugger up the holiday. If you use the standard service, they will not accept any queries until 10 weeks have passed and upgrading the service when already in progress is a PITA.

I renewed my son's online, using the digital code for his photo, I received his new passport 3 weeks later.

When sending off an adult one that's ran out of date for renewal, do you need to include e.g. Birth cert or is it just the old passport you have to send ?

Just the old passport. Didn't need the birth certificate either when a passport was lost one time.

Recently did child’s first passport so probably longer process - application sent off March 23rd, passport arrived May 5th

@Bimbom snap! 😂 I couldn't believe how quick. Sent off old passport on the tues, new one arrived on the Friday.

2 weeks - was v impressed

3 week turnaround for kids and one adult renewal. Did it all digitally. Which was also very straightforward.
