Today the neighbours have closed the road for a private street party for twenty or so houses causing diversions and they've been going with an amplifier playing loud music for 8.5 hours now.

They put up notices to tell people and clearly said invite only so no option to 'join them' (as I can't bear them).

It's fine if people want to celebrate but this is cheeky fuckery, isn't it? It's ruined my day. Couldn't sit in my garden..can hear it in every room in the house.

A few hours...ok but since 12 and still going now...I'm so fucking pissed off. I'm recently bereaved and menopausal and I just want some peace. They've done this x3 in recent years.

I need to vent before I go down there and murder them all.

absolurely twattery to dictate the road closure AND not invite the affected neighbours!

YANBU OP!

Plannersareus · 07/05/2023 20:39

It is only for one day, I'm sure it's annoying but this will probably be the last time for a very long time

nonevernotever · 07/05/2023 20:39

You lost me at private street party. I bet if they'd told the council it was only for some residents, not all they wouldn't have got permission to close the road. (well I can dream anyway )
In the meantime I'm sorry you're having to put up with this on top of your bereavement.

But over 8 hours? Why do they have to amplify the music ? A Bluetooth speaker would have done it for their exclusive gathering. Tossers. Angry

I’d go and join them and say the noise is stopping you having any quality of life, so you wanted to get involved. (And ignore any negative vibes!!)

Conkersinautumn · 07/05/2023 20:58

Can you hold a street party to respond in kind, maybe pump out the Eurovisiion and only invite those spurned.

GoodChat · 07/05/2023 21:00

Go and tell them to shut up

Define long time.

10-15 years, max. Could easily be way shorter.

HuffPuffBosomHoik · 07/05/2023 21:03

I have extremely irksome neighbours whom I have privately nicknamed Vernon and Petunia who do that (without the road closures) every weekend in the summer. We live in shitey small houses but in an expensive area and they are clearly suffering under the illusion that they have some sort of manor 😤. Gross, crappy music blaring and droney voices cackling. I really dislike them. But I digress.

Yanbu but at least it's only for today. Hope they go to bed soon. It is also really bad to close the road and then not invite the entire street. Rude

My friend is on her way home from the pub. I've asked if she can pull the plug out on her way past! Grin

Well the King is 74, my grandad died at 102 years old, that's a long time, King Charles could live for another 25/30 years. Its just one day, people need to be more tolerant. 8hrs is not a long time in the grand scheme of things!

Hawkins003 · 07/05/2023 21:12

@peppermintteadrinker peace and kindness especially as they are celebrating our new king, God bless him.

TheOriginalEmu · 07/05/2023 21:13

Do you live near me? I called the police about it today. Twice. They did turn it down after that, absolutely ridiculous.

It's one day, I get that you are breaved and menopausal, but this is a one off occasion, things could be a lot worse

DustyLee123 · 07/05/2023 21:14

We have to put up with music blasting, kids screaming, and the hum of a hot tub most weekends, so one day isn’t bad at all.

8 hours of incessant loud music is a VERY long time, 2 days on the bounce, particularly when some of us are working nights and need to try and sleep. I don’t mind people enjoying themselves, but a little bit of consideration for others wouldn’t go amiss.

Inkypot · 07/05/2023 21:16

YANBU, this would annoy me too. No need for it. Don't see street parties and loud thumping music, bunting etc when a new Pope is chosen so not sure why it's needed for the head of the Anglican Church 🤷‍♀️ Seems madness to me.
I think the suggestion about having a loud exclusive Eurovision party is a fantastic idea! Do it!

pompomdaisy · 07/05/2023 21:16

That's not really in the spirit of a street party. To me that means the whole street not just selected houses! They should have it in a garden if they are going to do that!!

Inkypot · 07/05/2023 21:17

Forgot to say I'm sorry for your loss OP. May they rest in eternal peace. You are definitely not being unreasonable at all.

peppermintteadrinker · 07/05/2023 21:17

Yep, if it was four hours I'd suck it up but it's now 9 hours and counting...

There's absolutely no need for the amplifier.

However I live near the park where a afrocaribbean festival is held annually. That goes on for days, day and night. The base makes every house shake in a two mile radius! Think yourself lucky!

stars345 · 07/05/2023 21:19

We had this every 'clap for the NHS' on a Thursday evening during the pandemic. Amplifiers, people 'performing', it was awful. A good 3 hours of it a week at least 🫣

Hoppinggreen · 07/05/2023 21:20

That’s awful, they are aresholes.
We live in a small cul de sac and when we had a street party at the bottom we invited the people in the road leading to the cul de sac even though they wouldn’t be affected or probably even notice.
If you close the road you invite everyone or you have it in your garden

Popcorn121 · 07/05/2023 21:20

Outrageous that not everyone on the street was invited.
