Today the neighbours have closed the road for a private street party for twenty or so houses causing diversions and they've been going with an amplifier playing loud music for 8.5 hours now.

They put up notices to tell people and clearly said invite only so no option to 'join them' (as I can't bear them).

It's fine if people want to celebrate but this is cheeky fuckery, isn't it? It's ruined my day. Couldn't sit in my garden..can hear it in every room in the house.

A few hours...ok but since 12 and still going now...I'm so fucking pissed off. I'm recently bereaved and menopausal and I just want some peace. They've done this x3 in recent years.

I need to vent before I go down there and murder them all.

8 hours of incessant loud music is a VERY long time, 2 days on the bounce, particularly when some of us are working nights and need to try and sleep. I don’t mind people enjoying themselves, but a little bit of consideration for others wouldn’t go amiss.

Ear plugs were invented for a reason, again its just one day, people have to put up with anti social behaviour all the time, this is a one off occasion

However I live near the park where a afrocaribbean festival is held annually. That goes on for days, day and night. The base makes every house shake in a two mile radius! Think yourself lucky!

I'd move. 😩

I know I'm being grumpy. I know the MN default is 'its one day, suck it up ' but I just needed to vent.

@Plannersareus Clearly you don't get it. I think saying things could be worse to me when my parent just died is a bit lacking in empathy. But yes, these are my issues and I am being very grumpy and feel very stressed.

It's one day, I get that you are breaved and menopausal, but this is a one off occasion, things could be a lot worse

This. You sound bitter OP.

Well the King is 74, my grandad died at 102 years old, that's a long time, King Charles could live for another 25/30 years. Its just one day, people need to be more tolerant. 8hrs is not a long time in the grand scheme of things!

But you can’t have a street party and only invite selected people in the street!

Stormydanielss · 07/05/2023 21:32

I'm so sorry for your loss and you're suffering with the menapause too 😩
We have had the neighbours from hell for around 18 months and it's awful when you just want some peace. It'll probs be quiet tomorrow, sit in the garden with a brew and relax in the morning
Get some ear plugs it's the only way I sleep now
Put something nice on the tv and try and drown it out
And I hope they don't put sweet Caroline on 😩
Again sorry for your loss 💐

Inkypot · 07/05/2023 21:32

How anyone can be callous enough to tell anyone bereaved that they're unreasonable or bitter is honestly appalling.
Please pay them no heed OP, you are being put in a situation that would be annoying under normal circumstances but will feel so much harder when you're also grieving, and then menopause on top of that. I'm heart sorry for you. You deserve to have peace in your home and it's horrible that others don't realise that.
Give 101 a call and report the noise, your neighbours are ignorant twats.

I'm sorry for your loss, but if you separate out the grief and noise issue it's easier to deal with. I've lost both my parents, nd other family members, it's awful, one off noise is over fair quickly, grief is a long process

IAmTheWalrus85 · 07/05/2023 21:35

How can they possibly justify getting the road closed and not inviting the whole street? That’s appalling and YANBU for that alone.

User135644 · 07/05/2023 21:36

Plannersareus · 07/05/2023 20:39

It is only for one day, I'm sure it's annoying but this will probably be the last time for a very long time

They said that last year.

IAmTheWalrus85 · 07/05/2023 21:37

And as for not inviting everyone while also playing amplified music on the street for more than eight hours - bizarre and I’m amazed anyone thinks that’s ok.

Americano75 · 07/05/2023 21:38

Phone the police. 9 hours is taking the piss.

CaroleSinger · 07/05/2023 21:41

Don't worry. In a couple of hours the neighbours will all go back to gating each other, slagging each other off and not speaking. Everyone will be safely back in their comfort zones 😄

peppermintteadrinker · 07/05/2023 21:42

Thank you @Inkypot . Your kindness is appreciated.

I think it has finally stopped.... fingers crossed... Thank goodness. I can feel my blood pressure going down. Thanks for letting me vent..

It's going to rain tomorrow so no garden for me this bank holiday. At least I can get some sleep now though.

I really like the idea of a street party but your one sounds awful - I’m surprised they can shut the road for an “invite only” party. Plus extra loud music sounds awful. The parties I’ve seen photos and videos of are just about bunting and cake and families.

Neighbours are having a party in their own garden and all I can hear is very faint music, lots of laughter, pops of corks etc.. it’s quite a pleasant sound.

polkadotdalmation · 07/05/2023 21:43

Actually, you are not in the slightest bit unreasonable! Thought it was another coronation whinge but it's a thoughtless neighbour one. Round here everyone was invited.

Thomasina79 · 07/05/2023 21:46

I’m suffering too, still going on with amplified crap music. I joined in for a couple of hours earlier, but now it’s too late and they should pitch a stop to it.

Inkypot · 07/05/2023 21:47

@peppermintteadrinker I'm so glad to hear it seems to have stopped. Get yourself cosy for the night and put on some comfort music or telly just for you. Big hugs, will say a prayer for you before I go to bed tonight. And you are always allowed to vent.

You have to get permission to close roads

Have they done that every time?

underneaththeash · 07/05/2023 21:59

Private street party on the private road (you partially own), obviously you just say no. They can’t shut the road.

Anniegetyourgun · 07/05/2023 21:59

I don't think it's police you call for noise nuisance, it would be the local authority environmental unit. They should have an out of hours call centre. OK, bit late now as the noise has stopped, but if (heaven forbid) there's a next time. As for the road closures, probably again start with asking the Council, they'll either be able to deal with it or advise you of the correct body to complain to. I have to say closing the street for a private party - not, you know, an actual STREET party, but a private party they've decided to use the street for - seems well out of order, and also not in keeping with the community spirit some posters are going on about (go away, shoo, constant noise is a form of torture don't you know?). Fortunately everyone's been quiet as mice down my road - maybe they're saving it for tomorrow? Argh...

underneaththeash · 07/05/2023 22:00

NB. I live on a private road and we had a road party today (all invited).

peppermintteadrinker · 07/05/2023 22:02

@Nanny0gg they have indeed!

So sorry for your loss OP. Bet they never told the council that it was an exclusive event and not all the street was invited. Bastards.
