AIBU to feel like I have been sold a lie?

Every time I see some water lilies I'm studying them to find a frog, but I have never seen a frog sitting on a lily pad. I feel like I have been sold a lie, and am starting to wonder if perhaps frogs do not like to sit on lily pads at all. This has been intensely bothering me since 2 recent walks with LOADS of lily pads and no frog in sight.

YABU = keep looking, I see a frog sitting on a lily pad every time I see a lily pad. You are just not looking closely enough.

YANBU = it's all a lie, frogs hate lily pads.

I've never seen a frog on a lily pad.
It's a frogspiracy.
It's turtles all the way down.

Arginalia · 01/05/2023 19:12

Forget frogs - look for toads.

Leafytrees · 01/05/2023 19:12

Hmm now you mention it, where are all the frogs??

Saffronn · 01/05/2023 19:12

When we had dozens of baby frogs in our pond they did that, it’s very cute.

Sadly that’s not happened for years since the local foxes got a taste for frogspawn.

PuffinPuffinPenguin · 01/05/2023 19:13

I'm sure the pro-froggers will be here in a minute to tell you that it's your civic duty to keep up the lie. They're all paid shills for Big Frogger.

Aww that's adorable. What a shame about the foxes/frogspawn though.

Monet painted billions of water lilies. Never saw any frogs in his paintings.

PrincessofWellies · 01/05/2023 19:24

I'll try again, it's frogs on lily pads 🤣🤣🤣

Aww I'd love to see baby frogs (or any frogs or toads) on lily pads!
We have lots of lilies (just started growing for the year now) and lots of frogs in our pond and I've never seen this.

GeorgeGerald · 01/05/2023 19:41

Definitely seen frogs on lily pads! In my childhood garden. Loved the baby frogs. Just bloody loved that tiny preform pond and all it held!

One of my favourite jobs as a child was cleaning the fish pond (which had no fish but loads of frogs). We had twenty minutes when the frogs and plants were out in buckets and we could sit in the clean pond and pretend we had a swimming pool...Best day of the year.

Imicola · 02/05/2023 09:26

Ok, clearly i have been unreasonable, frogs do like lily pads. I've created my own container pond this year, but I have not added a lily.... maybe I need to just in case I get baby frogs. I'd consider it a major life success if I could not only see a frog on a lily pad, but see it in my own garden!

To appease the Frog/Lilypad-conjunction denial conspirators.

Booklover40 · 02/05/2023 09:34

I've never seen a frog on a lily pad either but I have seen two (extremely cute) kestrels very close up in the last three days (both in totally different places) having never seen one in the wild before. One was sat overhead on a phone wire as i walked underneath it and the other flew right in front of my car yesterday and then into a tree. So that was nice!

You could be onto something here Pancake.
A cover-up going back centuries ... protected by the artist community, now creeping into online content ...

What that something is I haven't invented yet, as OP has got me puzzling aver a brand new dilemma.
I've seen plenty of frogs, but no lily pads lately. WHO IS STEALING ALL THE LILY PADS & why isn't there a national outcry?

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 02/05/2023 09:38

How long would a frog stay alive if they spent too long on a lily pad? It would be quickly snaffled by a bird, surely?

😂

Nereides · 02/05/2023 09:50

The biggest lie is that frogs go Ribbit. They do not. Beside that the lily pad thing pales into insignificance.

AnotherVice · 02/05/2023 09:51

I took this while paddleboarding last year....
