AIBU to feel like I have been sold a lie?

Every time I see some water lilies I'm studying them to find a frog, but I have never seen a frog sitting on a lily pad. I feel like I have been sold a lie, and am starting to wonder if perhaps frogs do not like to sit on lily pads at all. This has been intensely bothering me since 2 recent walks with LOADS of lily pads and no frog in sight.

YABU = keep looking, I see a frog sitting on a lily pad every time I see a lily pad. You are just not looking closely enough.

YANBU = it's all a lie, frogs hate lily pads.

Frogs sit on logs, OP, not lily pads. Frogs sit on logs, cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs and mules sit on stools. It’s quite simple really.

(Sorry, I have a 2 yo, my frames of reference are not what they were).

I've never seen a frog on a lily pad.
It's a frogspiracy.
It's turtles all the way down.

Love a fellow fan of Terry!

I've never seen one on a Lilly pad but a friend has them in her garden. Quite cute but when they suddenly appear, it does make me jump 😂

The biggest lie is that frogs go Ribbit. They do not. Beside that the lily pad thing pales into insignificance.

An interesting & compelling argument Nereides.

Where do you stand on the whole Frog/Kiss/Prince issue?

Literally just came on here to say this.

Ours just sit in the water with a tiny bit sticking out pretending to be rocks. The only excitement comes if they get out of the water and the hens have a pop at them. Then they make quite a racket!

Inthesamesinkingboat · 02/05/2023 11:21

The only frogs that sit on lily pads are enchanted Prince. Anyone who claims to have seen a frog on a lily pad and didn’t give it a kiss has just abandoned a Prince to his fate. be thankful you’ve never had to wade into a pond with a net to conduct such a rescue.

Monet painted billions of water lilies. Never saw any frogs in his paintings.

French frogs have to have more sense than to sit in full public view if they value their survival, given the culinary habits of that nation towards frog-kind…

I absolutely love this book. It represents my employer incredibly well. Bonkers rules because someone says so.

“It’s not about being comfortable,” said the cat. “It’s about doing the right thing.”

DD finds it very amusing that I like it so much. Her favourite is the farting cat but that’s a whole other thread 😂

This reminds me of a holiday we went on once in Scotland. There was a HUGE pond - more like a mini lake if there is such a thing - and yes, there were some lily pads on it. And there must have been hundreds of frogs. But they weren't on the lily pads. They were all too busy getting jiggy with it wherever you looked (except for on the lily pads, obviously). We couldn't get out of there quick enough! 😂

The photos in this thread are photoshopped. YANBU op it’s all bullshit made up to sell ponds and frogs.

ModestMoon · 02/05/2023 12:06

OP I literally had this conversation yesterday. Walking past local pond, I pointed out lily pads to my 3 year old and confidently told him that frogs like to sit on them. He replied asked: why? I'd never had this pillar of wisdom questioned before. Started wondering if everything I knew about the world had been a lie.

DRS1970 · 02/05/2023 12:13

We have tons of frogs, but no lily pads. But in my experience frogs tend to prefer sitting in the cooler undergrowth, rather than sunbathing on a surface. So I would agree you are looking for something that is not very likely to happen, if at all.

KenAdams · 02/05/2023 12:15

This is an excellent point. I myself have never seen a frog on a lily pad.

No frogs on lily pads round here. We do have a local terrapin-on-a-log though.

Cherrysoup · 02/05/2023 12:19

Bloody frogs getting jiggy with anything they can find have drowned 3 of my fish this year. Wankers.
