Pigeons on next doors roof

AIBU to want to take them all out. They are nesting on my neighbours roof. They apparently love them. They are pooping all over my garden and pecking at my flat roof.

They're even dirtier than rats apparently, riddled with all sorts.

Soubriquet · 29/04/2023 22:09

If they are nesting, you aren’t allowed to interfere.

Elphame · 29/04/2023 22:10

I feel your pain too. We have a pair that nest in the hedge.

They wind the dogs up constantly with their amorous flapping about.

1930toEdinburgh · 29/04/2023 22:10

Pigeons on my neighbours roof seem to be copulating furiously at the moment perhaps that's what's going on?

ReliantRobyn · 29/04/2023 21:48

You may not agitate a pigeon if you live in England or Wales. I would report you, if you did so, if I were your neighbours

To whom….

I counted around 20 today. Plus the ones that have decided our roof (not the flat one) is preferable. At least it keeps the cat amused even though he can’t reach them I suppose. Silver lining …..

"My neighbours roof, that I can see from my office, is the sex spot for a pair of very active wood pigeons."

Our wood pigeons get jiggy wid it on the telegraph line at the end of our back garden, as viewed from our kitchen window.

nobrasfot · 29/04/2023 22:17

Yabu
They are beautiful. We have two that come every year around spring time, sit on our fence a lot. they had babies one year. I love them.

babyproblems · 29/04/2023 22:20

I don’t think they’re vermin but they can do serious damage and their poo is a brilliant paint stripper!!! We had our roof done to get rid of them and after they’d gone I had to repaint all the wood work on the house exterior as their poo had caused all the paint to peel. They’re not worth killing but preferable they don’t roost or poo on your house as their chosen residence as you’ll never get rid. Can you put up any deterrents? Get a cat? Loud wind chime or something? X

Greenpasture · 29/04/2023 22:23

Seagulls are worse.

TwoMonthsOff · 29/04/2023 22:26

@GladAllOver
so are you able to pluck, cut off their feet head etc and get the breast filets out….? To make a pie then ?im in awe of you

Oysterbabe · 29/04/2023 22:26

If you're my neighbour can you stop firing fucking nerf bullets at the pigeons on my roof? I'm sick of finding the things everywhere.

MumofSpud · 29/04/2023 22:30

I recently noticed a lot more bird poop on my driveway, I then realised that there is a bird nest under my solar panel - pigeons.
I rang a pest control for a quote, who said

  1. they can't do anything until nesting season is over
  2. it would cost £1500 ShockShock I am now learning to live with them!

Seagulls are worse.

No such thing as a sea gull …they’re ‘gulls’ lots of different gulls

people, humans are the worst

They gravitate towards solar panels.

You have my sympathies. We had some nesting in our garden last year and the cooing noise outside our bedroom window from 4am used to drive me absolutely mad. It’s incessant and not welcome when you need the windows open in summer.

There’s a section of paint on the car that’s damaged as well from the poo even though we took a cloth out most mornings to clean it off.

No sign of them back this year so I’m hoping that means we’re in the clear!

Bk1000 · 29/04/2023 22:39

We have gulls nesting in our roof for the last 2 years, all the neighbours have been outraged by the fact that they have had the audacity to do it even though we live right next to the sea. They have caused absolutely no issues whatsoever though other than being a bit noisy in the mornings. Also have wood pigeons nesting in the trees nearby and they are lovely, the only problems we have had with them is next door neighbours cat taking the chicks out the nest and leaving them decapitated on our doorstep…in fact next doors cat causes me a lot more problems than any of the nesting birds have ever done!

Kaaplumff · 29/04/2023 22:41

Aw I like pigeons I think they're really sweet and their coo coo sound is so gentle and soothing. They're really cuddly, gentle birds actually. It makes me so sad when people call them vermin, they're innocent silly little things, just another one of nature's unfortunate victims as a result of human settlement.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 29/04/2023 23:21

Wood pigeons are not the same as dirty city pigeons ...

ThinWomansBrain · 29/04/2023 23:24

No diagram?
😂

DrFoxtrot · 29/04/2023 23:40

I love pigeons! There's a pair of lovely plump wood pigeons that live in my garden - here they are snuggled on the fence when it had been raining.

How do they manage to poo on your washing? They must be sitting above it as they don't poo and fly at the same time, they have to be still.

Gulls do though. They target things to shit on and fly over and bomb them. One targeted my coffee cup once and scored a direct hit as it flew over.

TinyKitty · 29/04/2023 23:44

userxx · 29/04/2023 22:36

They gravitate towards solar panels.

There are companies that will remove them humanely and rehome them, no need to shoot them. Some pigeon rescues will also do this.
