AIBU to think neighbour is a CF

Took a parcel in for neighbour yesterday morning, they got home in the afternoon around 2pm and didn't knock on to collect it. Didn't think much of it except that it was in the way of me getting pram out but not a massive issue.

We went out around 6.30pm and didn't get back till about 11 so unsure if they tried to collect in this time. The CF only knocked on my door at 7.30 this morning to get it. That's rude right? 7.30 on a Saturday morning, I wouldn't dare.

Were you awake?

londonrach · 29/04/2023 07:48

Were you up? They might have seen movement

Dinosaurdrip · 29/04/2023 07:55

Yes I was awake, but still in bed. Dog went mental when the door went and woke the kids up though.

It is annoying but if you have young children, the neighbour probably assumed that you had been up for ages as so many babies and toddlers are early risers.

cariadlet · 29/04/2023 08:07

Plus you have said that you went out at 6.30pm yesterday. It's very likely that the neighbour had popped round early evening yesterday.

goingtotown · 29/04/2023 08:11

I've stopped taking parcels in for neighbours fed up with them not collecting them for 24 hours.

Missingmyusername · 29/04/2023 08:11

I wouldn’t knock at 7.30, however
“We went out around 6.30pm and didn't get back till about 11 so unsure if they tried to collect in this time. “🙈 Maybe they did.

Don’t take parcels in again. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If I take a parcel I then watch out for the neighbour and take it over- if possible. Though I did once take in a parcel of fish, I didn’t know it was fish and put it near to a radiator which was in. Just didn’t think… neighbour not so happy.

Missingmyusername · 29/04/2023 08:11

On not in!

Straycatblue · 29/04/2023 08:16

You're right to be put out, who on earth wants disturbed at that time

(Unless it was a time sensitive package in which case they should at least have apologised )

If they can't be available for their own parcels without causing discomfort for their neighbours then they should collect at a more reasonable time & look into other arrangements for parcels being delivered to a collection point.

Who cares if they tried last night when you were out, that's their problem not yours - you're not an in call parcel sitting service

Don't take parcels in for them again

JMSA · 29/04/2023 08:17

Of course it's too early and rude. YANBU.

Wakeywake · 29/04/2023 08:21

I don't know, maybe it was just before they were going to work. Or maybe they are going away for the weekend. Then you would have complained it was in the way. 7:30 is not stupidly early. Of course, if they decided to collect at that time just because, that is thoughtless.

Blueeyes13 · 29/04/2023 08:25

Far too early! I wouldn't answer the door if I was still in bed, even if dog was barking!

DustyLee123 · 29/04/2023 08:26

It’s better than in the middle of the night. Just don’t take parcels in for them any more.

LauderSyme · 29/04/2023 08:32

7.30 is definitely stupidly early according to me! Maybe the clue is in Wakeywake's username though. Yes I think it was amiss of them not to collect it within an hour or so of getting home, and certainly rude to call on you so early.

Zonder · 29/04/2023 08:43

That's far too early. What did you say to them?

Fairyliz · 29/04/2023 08:49

Blimey I’m really good friends with one of my neighbours, we have been away on holiday etc so she has seen me first thing. But even so I wouldn’t knock on her door until about 9.30 even though I am fairly certain she would be up at 7.30.

SquirrelRed · 29/04/2023 08:52

I'm always up at that time with the kids and would never dream of knocking on someone's door so early, very rude in my opinion

Dinosaurdrip · 29/04/2023 08:54

I didnt say anything as although awake I was only just awake iyswim so went downstairs with DD 3 months tucked under my arm as I had been feeding her and just kind of slid the parcel to the door with my foot as it was heavy and I couldn't have picked it up with baby.
They just said thanks and went.

I don't think it's too early. You knew they were in but chose not to take it to them when you knew you'd be out all evening. I think that's the risk you took, to be honest.

maddening · 29/04/2023 08:57

Wakeywake · 29/04/2023 08:21

In which case they would have apologised profusely and explained that they were going away and it was now or never and op would not be posting.

You don't knock that early without apology and explanation imo.

Malarandras · 29/04/2023 08:59

If someone knocked my door at 7:30 on a Saturday morning, and it was not a life or death situation, then they’d soon know how pissed off I was! Ridiculously early.

SLS500 · 29/04/2023 08:59

Very ignorant of them. Lesson learnt - don't take any parcels for them again

Lampzade · 29/04/2023 09:01

I think it is too early for the weekend, but would be fine during the week

Dinosaurdrip · 29/04/2023 09:03

That's what I said lampzade, I wouldn't have minded at all during the week as we are up early getting ready for school etc.

PuppyMonkey · 29/04/2023 09:04

I know this goes against all the rules of MN parcel threads, but when you saw they were home yesterday afternoon and knowing you had their package blocking your hall and you were going out later, could you maybe have gone to their house and given them the package?
