To ask if reusable toilet paper is a step too far down the crusty lifestyle?

When my babies were little, we used cloth nappies. Now I see that they make washable toilet wipe things for the family. I'm going to give it a go, but I wonder if any one else has made the switch? Or is it a step too far?

Yes that is a country mile too far.

ShinySherry · 20/04/2023 17:20

I mean, knock yourself out. But I won't be joining you.

Greensleeves · 20/04/2023 17:21

That's fucking disgusting Grin

I'm not even sure it's any better from an environmental perspective, given the energy/chemicals you'd need to make it properly hygienic to reuse.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 20/04/2023 17:22

'Crusty' would be the operative word.

Onegingerhead · 20/04/2023 17:22

Are these wipes designed for individual use or they are to share with other family members?

GreenWheat · 20/04/2023 17:22

I am retching at the very thought of it.

Thedogscollar · 20/04/2023 17:22

I have never seen washable toilet wipes.
They would never see the inside of my washing machine, or my house come to think if it.
Revolting idea.

Reugny · 20/04/2023 17:23

It's more environmentally friendly to use one of these methods - https://indica.medium.com/how-to-clean-your-butt-without-toilet-paper-3eee6d583aee

Runningonempty01 · 20/04/2023 17:23

I think if I lived alone I would be OK with that, but it would be too much hassle to separate everyone's bum rags and using ones that had been used by another member of the family even if they were freshly laundered would be a bit icky. Would provide toilet paper for guests.

moonspiral · 20/04/2023 17:23

Do you mean cheeky wipes? For babies?

Inthedarkagain · 20/04/2023 17:24

Get a bidet. I would love a clean arse after every go, why did we get rid of them? You could wear your pants for a week then too if you want to be more crusty.

OOlivePenderghast · 20/04/2023 17:24

I think I’d start by getting a bidet attachment for the toilet. Then hopefully you’ll just be using toilet paper to ‘dry off’.

JanuarysChild · 20/04/2023 17:25

Maybe a bum gun or bidet toilet seat so that you are effectively washing everything away then drying with a use once towel. It is not that big a step from reusable nappies to be honest.

People are really funny about washing machines, they are there to wash, you just use a high temperature. Anything tumble dried is germ free anyway afterwards.

Inthedarkagain · 20/04/2023 17:25

Perhaps do what dogs and cats do when they have worms and have a wipe runway in the lounge?

Kaibashira · 20/04/2023 17:25

Wee absolutely yes, go for it.
Poo I say no cos I am the one doing the laundry in my house.

Mrsjayy · 20/04/2023 17:28

Isn't that just a face cloth "you" could just wipe with face cloths 😄

It's a mullion steps too fat and imo not particularly hygienic or practical. There is better and less crustier ways to be environmentally friendly.

🤣

Nookable · 20/04/2023 17:30

I think most people who use them either have a bidet attachment or if not only use reusable for wees and keep some traditional loo roll for poos.

If there's no poo around and they're stored correctly between washes I don't think it's that gross but I'm not convinced they're a more eco friendly option than unbleached sustainably sourced stuff once you take into account the all extra washing you'll be doing.

Wtf

Precipice · 20/04/2023 17:32

Seems pointless. If you don't want to use standard toilet paper, it makes more sense to just wash yourself using the sink, your hand, and a towel than to leave 'remnants' on reusable wipes.

Emigratingimmigrant · 20/04/2023 17:32

Just get bum shower. Anything but this😱

Mrsjayy · 20/04/2023 17:32

Well exactly. Think of the extra washing and the higher temp you would need to wash the poo cloths.nah it's not for me

I dod too at first. You can change it

stargirl1701 · 20/04/2023 17:36

It was for me. Like you, I did cloth nappies with cloth wipes. I would manage cloth wipes for me and DC but I draw the line at DH.
