To ask if reusable toilet paper is a step too far down the crusty lifestyle?

When my babies were little, we used cloth nappies. Now I see that they make washable toilet wipe things for the family. I'm going to give it a go, but I wonder if any one else has made the switch? Or is it a step too far?

Hmmmm I duno. I mean used reusable nappies and my oldest dd uses period pants her choice. But poop rag shared between the family feels a step to far.

Like the nappies where one child’s. The period pants are one child’s. But communal poo pee blood wipes is a hard pass.

'Crusty' would be the operative word.

Whilst I didn’t need to read this at dinner time - you are rather correct - crusty is the operative word.

ChaToilLeam · 20/04/2023 19:04

🤮definitely a step too far!

IrisAtwood · 20/04/2023 19:06

Grim. There is a limit to how far anyone should go in the name of reducing consumption.

Helenloveslee4eva · 20/04/2023 19:11

Wee wipes , used once and a wash ? No problem.

OhmygodDont · 20/04/2023 19:26

However I have just Amazoned a bidet for the toilet. As someone with a bowel of uselessness toilet paper is my skin’s enemy.

Which one have you chosen?

BananasForBrains · 20/04/2023 19:31

The name I’ve heard used before for this is enough to put you off…. “Family cloth”

rubadubdubascrubinahottub · 20/04/2023 19:37

Washing a bucket load of skiddy rags every day would not fill me with glee.

Daisyinthegrass · 20/04/2023 19:41

Eww, no. And I live alone and use washable period pads.

Firstnamelastname123 · 20/04/2023 19:46

We’ve used washable wipes for years. Family of 5. We have bamboo loo roll too, but the cloth wipes are better imo.

Mustardandchickensandwiches · 20/04/2023 19:52

Goodness the comments on this thread.

It's fine if your prepared to deal with it properly.

I would also make it much much cheaper than buying a brand and buy cheap washcloths specifically for the purpose.

camelfinger · 20/04/2023 20:04

I still have a bunch of Cheeky Wipes that I had piled up ready to use for wees during the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. I think I’ll keep them in case something like that happens again.

Snazzysausage · 20/04/2023 20:48

I've never understood the debate about this, I wash everything on 20° or cold so while it's more environmentally friendly re the drains and sewers, it's surely negated by having to use a laundry cleanser and hot wash thus cancelling out any environmental advantages. Not to mention the extra costs.

AmniMajus · 20/04/2023 20:55

I have a bunch of cheeky wipes left over from the cloth nappy days and have considered using them for
wees. I already do washes for Sanpro, cleaning cloths, dog towels and husbands gym towels so it wouldn’t add much extra. If you want to go ahead.

For now just one of the cold water hose style attachments that links onto the inlet that dh can do as soon as it arrives. However I’m going to speak to the plumber to get a hot water put near by to get a mixer one.

Siameasy · 20/04/2023 21:04

I used the cloth nappies and still use cloth san pro and I’d happily use these for wees but I cannot be bothered to contemplate dealing with reusable loo roll for poo

Trollsinmyeggbox · 20/04/2023 21:08

My daughter and I use cloth wipes for wees. The washing machine is right by the loo so they just go straight in the wash. No drama at all.

yogacushions · 20/04/2023 21:08

La la lar I just had a bidet put in my new bathroom. Rocks man.

also use the bamboo loo roll from ‘who gives a crap’. They are fab.

bidets are the best

If in your budget, get one of the seats plumbed in that cleans with warm water after using the toilet, the reusable wipes are then used for drying an area that is already clean

Wbeezer · 20/04/2023 21:20

I've got a bidet bottle thing. I'd use a cloth after that but not as my main clean

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/04/2023 21:22

I believe that the Romans used a sponge soaked in vinegar for this function.

Now, I think they built some impressive buildings and longer lasting roads than we do today, BUT I won't be adapting their reusable toilet stick.

(maybe this is what the term 'not touching it with a shitty stick' is based on?)

PickleOfAConundrum · 20/04/2023 21:23

I won't be buying them, sounds disgusting 🤮. Nah I'll stick with my Cushelles. The world's fucked up enough as it is without throwing in washable toilet wipes! 😂

MaryBoggintonTrotterSmyke · 20/04/2023 21:28

I don't really see how it's any different to Cheeky Wipes and everyone seems to use those. Toddler poo is exactly the same as adult's. And they don't need to be washed on 90 degrees either, it says in the instructions just to wash normally.

Personally I love a bidet, wish we had one at home. The in-laws have got one in their guest bathroom and I'm the only one who ever uses it!
