44 hate mongering articles about Megan & Harry in a 24 hour period

TheColourofspring · 16/04/2023 15:57

I saw this yesterday on Twitter. Industrial scale hate filled media content about Megan & Harry in 1 newspaper alone - works out at about 16,000 articles a year.

Aibu to the media in this country is utterly utterly grim and the cause of so much societal division.

Makes me feel quite ill frankly

It is really scary.
so many unhinged people

TheKeatingFive · 16/04/2023 16:02

It's absolutely ridiculous.

She's not going to the damn coronation. The press seem to still not be able to shut up about her. Enough is enough.

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 16/04/2023 16:03

How does that compare with how many on MN I wonder? Because some of the posters on the H&M threads here are seriously unhinged.

TheKeatingFive · 16/04/2023 16:05

There's a whole subset of people out there who swear the pregnancies were faked and Archie and Lilli don't exist.

Beyond batshit

MsWhitworth · 16/04/2023 16:05

It is genuinely concerning.

Sunnydays0101 · 16/04/2023 16:07

A quick glance at your list shows that MM isn’t mentioned in several. Some are supportive of MM, some just mention PH.

There are also shocking tweets published each and every day about William & Catherine by MM fans.

It’s all so boring at this stage.

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 16/04/2023 16:08

It’s just the media though isn’t it? ‘Twas ever thus - headlines to get sales/clicks.

You could find negative stories about pretty much anyone in the public eye, obviously with everything that’s gone before and Harry’s book coming out not long before the coronation it’s going to be a big topic of interest for —plebs—people. I can’t imagine being so invested in anyone though - i can’t even be arsed following family/friends on SM and don’t watch the news/read the papers. Maybe follow suit if it gets you riled up?

Even if you take those out, still insane, don't you think?

LadyKenya · 16/04/2023 16:09

I avoid reading most of it tbh, I do not want to constantly pollute my brain with all the poison that is being spewed about them out there. It is insidious.

sst1234 · 16/04/2023 16:11

Which other strangers do you care about so much about that any criticism of them makes you feel ill?

Mummynew08 · 16/04/2023 16:14

I voted yabu because I think you have cause and effect the wrong way - they write what people want to read. Most people read their newspaper articles online now so we know very specifically which articles they're clicking on. They'll stop writing it if we stop reading it.

This is an inevitable consequence of a free press: a lot of it will be low quality celeb gossip and "how to lose weight with this simple trick" crap.

The alternative? A state funded/censored press? Like they have in China. No thanks

The whole saga of the rift between PH and MM and the rest of the Royal family is crazy at this stage. They probably escalated the whole thing and caused a media frenzy that most of us are bored with at this stage by giving interviews, writing a book, etc, etc. If they had just gone abroad and lived their lives as they said they wanted, at this stage they would just be a son and daughter-in-law coming home for a huge occasion and would have been welcomed by the extended family.

I don't agree. They had the right to tell their story.

But in fairness to Meghan in particular, she's done/said nothing in the public eye for months and months. Day after day of headlines about her, based on speculation and gossip is not a reasonable response.

Sunnydays0101 · 16/04/2023 16:22

Yes, they had a right to tell their story but all it did was whip up a media and public frenzy, that goes on and on and on.

TheKeatingFive · 16/04/2023 16:26

whip up a media and public frenzy, that goes on and on and on.

But at what point do the red tops back the hell off. She isn't going to the gig. That appeared to be what the gutter press wanted, yet they can't let up.

CrotchetyCrocheting · 16/04/2023 16:26

Well, I for one am glad you want to add to it all by making another thread about them.

Ponoka7 · 16/04/2023 16:30

Probably all of the ones driven to suicide and addiction. The ongoing lack of critical thinking is disappointing.

TheObstinateHeadstrongGirl · 16/04/2023 16:37

Meh.

Two people who continually grab attention, stir up trouble and slag off their family. Unfortunately for them, the world doesn’t work in as “We only want people to say nice things about us”. Nature of the beast. They could STFU and pale into obscurity with their enormous wealth but they don’t.

I’ll save my sympathy for people who are actually suffering.

TheColourofspring · 16/04/2023 16:41

I think my point is though that it’s genuinely unhinged to have that many articles about them- are there any public figures that could potentially have 16,000 annual stories about them?

As it goes I am a republican anyway and would like to see the back of the whole damn lot of the royals. But i have sympathy for Megan & Harry as it’s just totally fucking batshit

All of this!

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/04/2023 16:48

Hating on M&H has become a very lucrative industry.Hmm

TheColourofspring · 16/04/2023 16:50

@sst1234 and my point is that the gutter press & the societal brainwashing effect it has makes me feel ill. It’s utterly grim- we could be holding the shitty corrupt government to account with some decent journalism but instead we have 44 stories about a couple. It’s insane & there’s no wonder the country is in the state it’s in.

What did the comedian bill hicks used to say about how the media keeps the nation pacified with mindless shite? ‘You are free to do as we tell you’

OP posts:
missfliss · 16/04/2023 16:55

I agree OP. I give zero flips about the royal family to be honest but the press ( daily mail and express) are constantly filling their pages with this targeted stuff - it's like a vendetta.

So fucking weird

Mendholeai · 16/04/2023 16:58

Feeding people a diet of hate is like poisoning them. I try to keep my words positive and avoid papers that do this. Once you see it, you can realise the scale of it.

Makes me look back to the one happy but of news that every news report would have with fondness.

TheColourofspring · 16/04/2023 17:01

@Mendholeai yes it very much is like poisoning people. And people wonder why this country is so fucked!
