AIBU to believe it's entirely possible to laugh without snorting?

As in, snorting like you would if you were doing an impression of a pig.

I was having lunch out today and there was a group of people nearby who looked around 60 years old and one woman was doing long snorts every time she laughed. Which was a lot.

AIBU to think that was entirely on purpose?

Depends. If I'm proper laughing rather than polite titters I can't control it at all

Aylestone · 14/04/2023 15:00

People can’t really control their laugh? Would you like to have to laugh like a pig?

Whatkindofuckeryisthis · 14/04/2023 15:02

People definitely can control this.. it’s purely attention seeing. My neighbour sneezes like a right twat and it’s so unnecessary!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/04/2023 15:03

Sometimes it happens accidentally to people, especially if they've been absolutely corpsed by something.

3WildOnes · 14/04/2023 15:04

I've accidentally snorted whilst laughing before. I was pretty mortified.

Devoutspoken · 14/04/2023 15:04

Women should indeed chuckle quietly rather than make a spectacle of themselves🙄

That's what I thought the first time I heard it.

Except it was again and again and again.
Even when she just did small laughs.

This dick should have done.
I don't care if she has a vagine.

You could probably be less joyless as well.

Devoutspoken · 14/04/2023 15:12

Wasn't there another thread recently about a loud woman on a train ruining someone's day? I mean jeez, get a life

EllenLRipley · 14/04/2023 15:16

I doubt she gave 2 fucks what you think OP. I am old and I snort like a rhino when I crack up and it sounds so funny that we then all get worse and worse. But the great joy is that old women, in my experience, have no fucks to give!

Knullrufs · 14/04/2023 15:20

Sounds like she had a fun lunch. To quote the great philosopher Meg Ryan, I'll have what she's having.

Sparkletastic · 14/04/2023 15:22

I firmly believe you can accidentally snort laughing only once. If she was doing it every time she was faking it.

<gavel>

People definitely can control this.. it’s purely attention seeing.

"I imagine I know everything about what happens in other people's minds and bodies, and am going to judge other human beings based on my imagination"

You don't know whether or not other people can control it, because you're not psychic. Therefore, you have no idea whether they are attention seeking or not. Therefore, you are calling them names based on a lie.

DrManhattan · 14/04/2023 15:30

100% can control it. Like those people who do disgusting massive sneezes. Grim and totally unnecessary.

Barold · 14/04/2023 15:31

I don't think they can help it! But it is annoying...

As for sneezing (mentioned by a PP), I can't do a muted/quiet sneeze. I certainly don't do anything dramatic but it's a proper 'sneeze noise' and I can do absolutely nothing about it.

Itsnamechange · 14/04/2023 15:32

I've been snorting when I laugh more and more recently. Trust me I hate it and it's mortifying but it's completely involuntary. People make all sorts of weird sound when they laugh. Sorry you're so joyless.

You could rupture your throat...

man sneezing

Man ruptures throat by stifling a sneeze

Clamping your nose and mouth shut when you need to sneeze is dangerous, doctors warn the public.

Devoutspoken · 14/04/2023 15:58

Do you think they make loud sex noises too

DisasterAvertedNow · 14/04/2023 16:38

I hate it. I know a couple and they both do it. Like they are trying to out-snort each other.

I get it. You find something hilarious. Well done.

People are just getting more and more inconsiderate. It’s weird.

@Whatkindofuckeryisthis

Your comments about your next door neighbour who obviously dislike @FourBoysAndAFeline

Might not be what it seems like,

She might suffer with what I have deviated septum in her nose cavities,
I had a Op, but I think it's grown back,

As when I sneeze I can't help sneezing like a pig at times 🤧 myself too,

Goodread1 · 14/04/2023 16:49

Oops I ment to say I have this too

Botw1 · 14/04/2023 16:53

Imagine being so miserable

🐽🐽🐷

Goodread1 · 14/04/2023 16:54

Hi Op
No I don't think it's deliberately,

It's just how it is
When she is out socialising

You sound like you have bit of history with this woman or you unreasonablly don't like her,

How strange if you don't know her too
