To ask if you have an iPad what do you use it for?

I would like an IPad but I have an iPhone and a laptop so I don't think I really need one.

I would like to try realistic drawing and note booking on an iPad but I can't really try it without getting one. Most things I could do on an iPad surely I can do on an iPhone... I would also use it for watching tv and maybe reading kindle books although I would also consider a kindle paperwhite for this and I have seen there is a new kindle which allows notetaking but it seems like the functions on that one are limited.

Tiktok

PictureConsequences · 04/04/2023 22:17

I mainly use it for watching tv, like a very portable tv.

eurochick · 04/04/2023 22:18

I use mine for everything.

Mn
Social media
Games
Newspaper
Books (via kindle app)
Magazines (Readly)
Tv
Podcasts
Music
Photo apps
Weather
Mapping
Browsing
Exercise videos

Swansandcustard · 04/04/2023 22:19

Ditto as @eurochick. I’m glued to it

weegiemum · 04/04/2023 22:20

I use mine for online stuff as I find my iPhone too small for decent readability. Also for taking minutes (I'm the secretary and trustee for a small charity) and for email.

I use my phone much less and my laptop for work reports etc.

I probably don't need them all. But I like them. Ds has a posh iPad with pencil and uses it for all his uni notes, only writes essays on his desktop.

FootnerFanatic · 04/04/2023 22:20

I use mine purely to surf the net and take it on holiday with me to watch films/TV. It probably has 100 capabilities that i'm not utilising.

BIWI · 04/04/2023 22:20

I use mine mainly for watching TV in the kitchen while I'm cooking. If we're going away, I might take it to use instead of my laptop.

Normally I use my laptop most of the time, for MN/social media as well as emails, surfing the net etc. I can't bear trying to do that on either my iPhone or my iPad as I can't type quickly enough on either of those.

SlipSlidinAway · 04/04/2023 22:22

Everything I could do on my iPhone but find easier with a much bigger screen. So banking, shopping, email etc. Also Netflix, iPlayer etc.

PinkBuffalo · 04/04/2023 22:22

I use mine for everything I am not at all tech savvy and have disabilities but I can manage the iPad ok most of the time (I have a big one and a mini)

I do have a smart phone but it is Payg so no internet whilst out and about

if I take a picture on my phone whilst out when I gets home I email it myself so I can save it to the ipad and upload it from there

WildAloofRebel · 04/04/2023 22:22

Procreate and Goodnotes and some games

But I find it too big for web stuff personally - am used to my phone (iPad too big to hold in my hand at the same time as typing, I find), or laptop if I want a bigger screen.

Yes good as a portable telly too.

Heroicallyfound · 04/04/2023 22:23

I find my iPad too heavy for reading.

I use it for Procreate with an Apple Pencil for drawing.

And writing on the Notes app (I like that it syncs to my iPhone)

And playing June’s Journey lately! 😁

And for watching YouTube or listening to podcasts on my treadmill. The speaker is way better than my iPhone so I can hear it above the noise of the treadmill/running. I don’t like wearing headphones and having a phone strapped to me when I run.

And for watching Netflix etc in my bedroom if kids are using the TV.

loopyloutoo · 04/04/2023 22:23

It's another tv for me - I use it every day to watch tv via itv x player, channel 4 catch up, sky go, Netflix etc. watching things in the bath, while doing makeup etc. it's a must have for me!

whyayepetal · 04/04/2023 22:23

I have a keyboard/case for mine and use it as a mini computer. I use it for document writing, emails tv - everything really!

Littlethingsmeanalot · 04/04/2023 22:52

Absolutely everything. I also have a Laptop and an iPhone, I use my iPad for everting, from reading, to notes, to internet usage, to emails, to camera, ro videos, everything, I also play music from it.

Dintananadinta · 04/04/2023 22:54

Casual browsing and watching tv shows. I don't use it for any work.

Oakbeam · 04/04/2023 23:02

I also have a Laptop and an iPhone

Same. I only really use my phone for phone calls, paying for things, and for occasions where carrying an iPad is impractical.

I use my laptop or desktop for anything that needs a bigger screen or full size applications that won’t run on an iPad/iPhone.

Overall, my iPad gets used 90% of the time.

BluetheBear · 05/04/2023 06:45

@eurochick @Swansandcustard That's interesting. I use my phone for most of that but maybe if I had an iPad...

I also have an Amazon fire tablet but it doesn't support all apps such as Now TV so that is a bit annoying.

@weegiemum I want the pen! I want to use it for notes as well.

@WildAloofRebel I'll look at procreate and goodnotes
@Heroicallyfound I like the idea of being able to make notes at home then acces them on my iPhone when I'm out and about. It's good to know the speaker is better too!

Thanks all. You've convinced me it would be a worthwhile purchase. I might head to the Apple shop this weekend.

Watching tv in bed. I do everything else on my phone.

UseOfWeapons · 05/04/2023 07:14

I don’t have a laptop, so I use mine for everything. I have an Android phone, so wanted to be able to use both platforms easily. Hated my iPad for the first few weeks, as I’d never used Apple before, but after that, loved it!
Would get a newer one, but I can’t afford it.

redyellowpinkbluegreen · 05/04/2023 07:25

I only watch Netflix on mine

Zonder · 05/04/2023 07:28

I use my phone for most things, laptop for work and kindle for reading. I haven't even charged my iPad for months. If I want to watch TV I do it on the TV so I don't really have a reason to use the iPad sadly.

Caspianberg · 05/04/2023 07:36

As a tv. We watch the Reuters news app in the kitchen whilst having breakfast, then if I want to watch something in bath or bed. Use for Ds when travelling to watch something.
I use to follow recipes a lot also.

Use laptop to look up most things though or finalise anything. Phone for odd browsing, reading news. Kindle for reading.

Tbh although I like it and it’s handy, it’s the one thing out of phone/ kindle/ laptop that I wouldn’t miss much if it was gone

Aprilx · 05/04/2023 08:01

I use my iPad for email, general browsing, watching TV / YouTube etc. I wouldn’t read a book on it, I have just got a kindle for that. I find my phone too small for all of that and I mainly use my phone as a phone and for paying for things.

lightlypoached · 05/04/2023 08:12

Watching telly
Recipe book when cooking
Games (online scrabble!)
FB and MN
Internet browser
Music (linked to a speaker)

Mine gets a lot of use.

ByTheSea · 05/04/2023 08:14

It's my device of choice at home
