To get annoyed when shops do a discount after I’ve just bought something?!

I recently bought some stuff online and a couple of days later they did an ‘extra special’ discount of 15% off.

it then makes me not want to buy from them again!

😂😂😂

SunshineGeorgie · 04/04/2023 07:24

Well they have to have a start and end date!!

Why on earth does it put you off shopping with them again?

GCRules · 04/04/2023 07:25

So they should never have discounts because people might have bought things full price in the days before?

Brendabigbaps · 04/04/2023 07:26

Yep!
it really annoys me when some also send out £10 off vouchers literally 2 days after you’ve ordered!
its like they’r sticking V up at you

GracePooleslaugh · 04/04/2023 07:26

I wouldn't be looking at the item if I had already bought it so would be oblivious.
I don't think they are doing it on purpose.

Once they have your email address you are done for!

I am not sure what the way round it is!

Can you send it back and rebuy at the discounted price?

I once bought a dress from jigsaw, it was £200. Literally the following day it went into the sale at 30% off. I went back into the store and returned the dress at full price and re purchased the same dress with the discount. The dress didn’t even leave the bag..

Yes I would do that too if it was a big saving like that. This was makeup though so I couldn’t return it.

If it is a shop that regularly discounts and I can wait I do. Or search for codes!

Yes! It's irrational but in the moment I'm like 'urgh I'm not buying from you again you ripped me off'

Then I forget all about it Wink and get stung again!

DanceMonkey19 · 04/04/2023 07:37

Was it MAC op? If so, same here 😡

Just buy at the lower price, and send back the new stuff using the original purchase details, assuming it’s within the returns period for the first order. The sale has to start sometime 🤷‍♀️

Jigsaw will actually refund you the difference if the discount kicks in a certain number of days after the purchase- I forget how many. I found this out after I complained to the assistant about a dress I had bought the previous week being reduced,

DontGivethAFuck · 04/04/2023 08:01

As a business owner we actually get people who complain about this from time to time, often people who ordered upwards of a week or two prior!

It's stupid, we have to start on a date. There will always be someone who ordered prior to that date.

I don't mind refunding the difference if it's a day or two but not weeks.

TolkiensFallow · 04/04/2023 08:04

I got the opposite last week…bought some shoes from an online retailer at 30% off and they were too small so I returned them. When I went to order a size up they were back to full price!

I just want to pay a fair and consistent price!

Boxofsockss · 04/04/2023 08:08

Yea this really annoys me. Or when they go in sale and if that’s the case and it’s a big discount, I will return it and rebuy for the sale price ! Got to look after the pennies.

ImSweetEnoughDarlin · 04/04/2023 08:11

Add items to your basket and leave them there for a day or so and they might send you a discount code.

You have to be signed up though for them to know who you are.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 04/04/2023 08:12

I get that it's a bit jarring but sales and offers have to have a start date.

There's always going to be someone that misses out but that's business. Pretty much every business out there has sales and offers at some point - unless it's an emergency I tend not to buy stuff like clothes, books and make-up at full-price - I just wait until the sales.

The flip side of course is that if you wait until the sales, you may not be able to get the style/colour/size you want.

validnumber · 04/04/2023 08:12

This really annoys me to.
I read a while ago I think it's Next that keep their consistent prices as don't do regular discounts and only really old stock goes into their sales so customers trust their prices more.
Stores (old Debenhams and DFS) that always do sales/% off don't have good sales all year as people know they will do a sale soon so always wait. Can be a recipe for disaster.
I probably haven't explained that very well!

validnumber · 04/04/2023 08:13

*too

dreamonlucid · 04/04/2023 08:15

Just reorder at the discount and return the stuff that's full price!

Pottedpalm · 04/04/2023 08:17

I bought a dress online ( might have been Baukjen) and it was reduced the day after it arrived. I rang them and said I would return and buy again unless they had an alternative suggestion. They readily refunded the discount.

Calculater · 04/04/2023 08:17

I once saw a dress I the sale for £35 that I'd bought (and worn) the week before for £135.

I bought it and took it back using my original receipt Blush

I wouldn't do it for a 15% discount but that one was just too hard to take.

For me the problem with companies who often do these 15%/20% discounts is that I don't buy unless I've got a code. If I know it's something they often do, I just wait, which must inevitably mean I sometimes don't buy at all because the moment's passed, so I do wonder if it's counter productive for them. Also strongly suspect it's not a discount at all, but that the original pricing is set to accommodate these regular reductions.
