Can't get piercing out-MRI in the morning!!

Urgh. Got a VCH piercing and I can't get it out. DH is at work and scan is at 0730! Can't even work out which direction to turn it!! Been looking for pliers as I can't get a grip on it. Anyone got any advice? It's a bar not a ring, it's not been out for ages, last time was for an MRI too!

Latex gloves?

Youvegotafriendinme · 02/04/2023 22:27

I had an MRI a few weeks ago and couldn’t get mine out. They said it’s fine and it can stay in. Had the scan with no issues

neilyoungismyhero · 02/04/2023 22:29

I think it will be fine too. I've had plasters put on my rings at times too. I wouldn't worry. Good luck with the MRI.

That is reassuring...if I can't get it out I'll have To go and brazen it out with them!!

Whereas I had to take all of my piercings out when I had an MRI.

No idea want VCH means but can you post a picture of it so people can advise?

wellnowthisisembarrassing · 02/04/2023 22:30

@VioletViolets not sure anyone needs to see that!!! It's my clit

It may depend on what is being scanned. I had my knee scanned a few weeks ago despite being unable to remove wedding rings .

It's my lower back and pelvis 🤦‍♀️

Lefty loosey righty tighty, which I didn’t think I’d trot out with a piercing in your bits but still.

Same. I went really prepared, wearing soft clothes, took nose piercing and earrings out etc but had totally forgot about upper ear piercings until I was in there, couldn't easily get them out, they said it was fine and they might feel a bit warm, mine was neck with contrast so took a while as they essentially do it twice.

HaveSomeIntrospect · 02/04/2023 22:51

I have a tragus piercing which I couldn’t remove for my head mti scan last Monday. Wasn’t a problem.
you will have to tell them about your piercing though

wellnowthisisembarrassing · 02/04/2023 23:02

It is out!! Rusty pliers to the rescue, and I managed to not do any damage to a vital organ!

For next time, if your hard-to-remove jewellery is gold, silver or platinum, they’re absolutely fine in an MRI scanner, as they aren’t magnetic. UNLESS they’re very close to the area they’re scanning, when they may ask you to remove them.

ShiteInNiningArmour · 02/04/2023 23:17

OP. I shall tell you a tale to make you feel better.
some years ago the plastic ball on the end of my VCH somehow shattered. It was a one ended banana bar so totally stuck. Nothing I did would unthread what little remained of the broken ball so eventually I had to admit defeat and ask DH for help. Two minutes and a pair of pliers later he’d got the end off, but he did say at the time it’s a good job he loved me 😂
lesson learned. Double ended bars.

good luck tomorrow OP!

SoFED · 02/04/2023 23:36

That sounds painful!!!

Superunknown1 · 03/04/2023 01:24

Glad you sorted it! I work at a tattoo shop and have helped many a panicked person try to get piercing jewellery out just before an MRI! If you don’t have the tools for it (I recommend buying some cheap pliers to help with this sort of thing) latex/nitrile gloves or even washing up gloves help in a pinch. Due to the risks it’s uncommon for medical staff to let you keep any metal jewellery in at all unless you’re certain it’s non-magnetic and sign a form to confirm this. I’ve done that before as wear mainly titanium and glass but it still made me a bit panicky going in!

Why would your husband be bothered about having to help remove your clit piercing? Confused

I’m really sorry I have no advice but I’m dead at this. 💀😂

hope you get sorted.

FlossyRossy · 03/04/2023 02:31

Sorry just read your update - glad it’s sorted!!

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2023 02:43

Glad you're sorted, OP.

Mine was a very boring rook piercing that had to come out due to repeated infections. I'm forever grateful to DH and his trusty pliers.

I wouldn't want to risk damage to my partners bits by mucking about with a pair of pliers down there!

VioletViolets · 03/04/2023 06:25

Sorry I didn’t know it meant that! Glad you got it sorted.
