Urgh. Got a VCH piercing and I can't get it out. DH is at work and scan is at 0730! Can't even work out which direction to turn it!! Been looking for pliers as I can't get a grip on it. Anyone got any advice? It's a bar not a ring, it's not been out for ages, last time was for an MRI too!

I wouldn't want to risk damage to my partners bits by mucking about with a pair of pliers down there!

Thank you. Exactly that. Bit nerve wracking to say the least.
but there is always one on every thread isn’t there 😂

Glad it worked op! For anyone reading this in future, please note that you cannot wear any jewellery that could be magnetised into in an MRI, it contains a MASSIVE magnet, and you can end up with piercings being ripped out or you pulled onto the machine. Plasters over it will not make a meaningful difference.

Here's a video to show you just how strong the MRI magnet is.

Please make sure it's out first, or contact your healthcare provider if you are truly stuck.

Dd had to have one once and I was told to remove everything as I was standing in the room. I forgot a small necklace I always wore and as I’d got a floaty scarf on I’d not noticed it either.
Imagine my surprise even when machine came on and my scarf started to float in front of me like a bloody ghost. The necklace was being drawn towards the machine and lifting the scarf with the power of it. I have no idea how the chain didn’t snap.

Once I realised I wasn’t being haunted and the nurse and I stopped laughing I took it off, but it absolutely made me understand the power of the thing which I’d probably underestimated before.

They generally prefer you to take any conductive (metallic) material off if at all possible, even if it is "non magnetic".

That's because it may be magnetic (most metallic material is to some degree, it's just a mater of how much) and interact with the static magnetic field (either posing a danger to the person or affect the quality of the image). There is also a chance that conductive material may interact with the RF (non static) electromagnetic fields used in the imaging process, although this is less likely for small items. Conductive loops over a large area (say for example a necklance) pose more of an issue. Sometimes the RF fields are localised over the area of the body that is being imaged, so it's not so much of an issue if they are imaging your feet for example and you have earrings in.

That's why they normally ask to take all jewellery off.

Thanks all! MRI went fine and I've ordered a brand new set of pliers that I am going to keep especially for the job in future....I'm amazed I've not got tetanus from the ones I used!!

Then had to face the indignity of DH putting it back in saying "it's all very tight down here!" And fiddling about.
