Aibu to think Guy Pearse apologised & deleted his tweets regards Transgender Actors?

He played an ancient man in 'Prometheus'. Should have left that role to someone who was very old instead of all the prosthetics and the forgotten art of 'acting'

To be fair, in his apology letter he sticks to his argument that actors are supposed to ACT, not just echo their "lived experience", so any actor should be able to act anyone.

They're actors, they play a role, straights can play gay, non trans can play trans. It's bloody ridiculous to say that only trans can play trans roles. I am sick of the <2% of trans people wanting to rule the roost. Of course they have a total right to live happy and fulfilling lives, but the vociferous minority, seemingly transwomen, are trying to crowbar their way into every part of women's spaces - prisons, hospital wards, cloakrooms, sports etc.

His apology was very carefully worded and stood by his belief (which I agree with) that actors play a part and should be able to creativity portray a different person or what’s the point of acting?

It’s the same argument as a writer who creates a character/storyline - should only a real life murderer or drug dealer write a crime novel or film/tv show? As long as it’s well researched and presented surely that’s the creativity of acting/writing/creating?

Why delete it? It's true. He shouldn't have apologised, plus the comment was tame. I'm angry he felt compelled and then chose to delete it.

Actors act. Anyone can play anyone old, straight, anything. Hacked me off re Brendan Fraser being criticised for The Whale.

Like Ian McKellen telling Extras that he wasn't Gandalf the wizard in real life, just acting. "I pretend".

He's standing by his point but not making it about one group of people - which is fair enough. I don't think he's actually sorry though. But I guess he doesn't want the hassle.

And they are the very ones shouting for equality & inclusivity. Only when the narrative suits them.

There's a tiny minority in the UK (in the world!) whose beliefs and practices are very different to pretty much everyone else. Who have been vilified and discriminated for their beliefs. Who have had to advocate for their rights.

Oddly enough Jewish people don't seem to have any objections to the almost entirely non-Jewish cast of Friday Night Dinner.

It's called 'acting'.

It's beginning to become clearer & clearer that biological women are going to be the most marginalised & oppressed groups of the future.
It was always a mans world but it's quickly becoming a man & trans world.

He caved in. If you let these people win, they will simply want more. They are a menace, nothing more. And need to be treated as such.
