This, really.

Yesterday my chicken fed 4 adults for a roast dinner with a bit left over for the cats. Can’t wait for advice on how to make it last for a week. These are the best threads. Apart from the cat tail one and the buying reality versus expectations

Have you always been so greedy?

😂😂😂😂😂

Put it with this and you'll be full for a year.

Now that is a massive salad!

Blackbirdblue30 · 27/03/2023 20:26

Roast chicken with spuds and carrots fed two adults. Then sandwich and a chicken salad for next day's work lunches. Rest of it and the veg turned into a large soup. So about 8-10 meals with the other bits?

nomoremerlot · 27/03/2023 20:33

@MadCatandBirdLady my comment was a joke, but the laughing emoji didn't appear!

runsense · 27/03/2023 20:35

Depends if it's been defrosted or not.

Definitely a week

Roast it the first day and just look at it whilst eating something else

Second day serve ‘picky tea’ for the kids that has ‘bits’ including naice ham but no chicken. They can eat this in front of the telly as ‘a special treat’.

Third day you can smell it (bulked up with lentils) (other dried pulses are available)

Fourth day you do yellow label aisle blitz where there will be amazing bargains that feed your family for so many days you don’t need the chicken and especially if you have been and bought a 90kg bag of rice as it’s cheaper like that even paying extra mortgage for an additional kitchen to store it in.

Fourth day fajitas. Obviously

Fifth day something including pesto. Obviously. (Extra points if you made it from something Green you picked yourself like nettles from the local rec)

Sixth day stock from the carcass that is greasy and revolting but has the taste of pure humble brag so you will enjoy it anyway.

Seventh day the chicken will rise again and you can repeat the whole process.

Fuck me, that's hilarious!!

CupidStuntt · 27/03/2023 20:53

I make mine last 2 weeks minimum. I use the smallest amount each day and bulk it out with plenty of slices of another chicken.

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 27/03/2023 20:53

We're very casual, just leave the bird sitting out by the front door and everyone pulls off a hunk when they pass by. We'd get more than a week out of it but my neighbor complains about the flies. Controlling b*tch. Probably doesn't get more than three meals out of hers judging by the size of her kids. BMI's of 21, the lot of them! (I worry for their health, obviously)

@willstarttomorrow we’ve done the same, make stock and freeze it. You just know it will be vile but it sits in the freezer until you need space then you throw it away.

Having just thrown out an old takeaway container of (1year+) homemade chicken stock, I feel personally attacked by your comment.

No-ones making a chicken last a week.

It's just a tiresome and very boring 'joke' trotted out any time anyone suggests you might get more than one meal out of a chicken.

Which predates MN by millenia BTW. From a time before factory farming when people didn't expect to eat great piles of meat on a daily basis because it was too expensive for most people.

It's becoming too expensive again. Yet if you bulk out a chicken curry with red lentils, or forage for anything, then it's somehow a joke.

Jourdain11 · 27/03/2023 21:05

I'm not sure about a chicken, but my family certainly can never get through a pack of pate in a week. We always end up throwing half the packet away. It's too sad.

Unicorn2022 · 27/03/2023 21:12

You can make it last for ages. Turkeys are even bigger - I'm still making daily meals with my leftover Christmas Day turkey

Sapphire387 · 27/03/2023 21:15

I have a greedy old cat and a husband who's too soft on him.

Our chicken lasts for a full five minutes after we've plated up our own roast dinners.

No problem! I took it as a joke 😀

It might be sad, but is it scary?

JaceLancs · 27/03/2023 22:29

DP isn’t a great fan of Turkey so 2 years ago ordered a ‘large chicken’ from a local farm shop - went to collect it and it weighed over 9 pounds - lasted us for well over a week
the average supermarket chicken does 1 meal plus a few leftovers

Jourdain11 · 27/03/2023 23:32

BarbaraofSeville · 27/03/2023 22:27

@Jourdain11 was this your pate thread, or are there two of you eeking out the pate?

Oh no. There's no way I'd buy pate every week!

gettingoldisshit · 27/03/2023 23:38

This thread is pure gold......hilarious

YANBU

Goodness me, that man has a massive cock!

Now about this chicken, I do hope it is of the highest welfare possible. Organic, grain fed, housed in luxury barns with nightly lullabies sung to them and purchased from a Very Rural farm shop. You can't buy an ethical chicken for under £20, it simply isn't possible. Cheap meat, and the people who buy it are not only vile but grim too.

Redebs · 28/03/2023 00:40

You MADE a chicken?

Are you sure?

I may be tempted to serve it with a massive salad.

CallieQ · 28/03/2023 01:09
