Do you keep snacks like chocolate, biscuits or crisps in? Is there anything you can't have in the house?

I love to have a variety of things in at all times, to go with a cup of tea. Today's choice was some chocolate-dipped marshmallows. We have a lot of different flavours of ice cream in the fridge because again I like the variety, I like being able to choose something different whenever I fancy rather than just having one thing. Never feel compelled to eat all of them in one go because they are there.

But I cannot do this with crisps! Crisps are the one thing where I can't leave them alone, so would eat far too many. I love crisps but cannot be trusted to buy them in bulk, they won't last. I buy a single serving packet of crisps if I really fancy them instead, even though it's more expensive to buy them like this.

If majorly stressed and losing my appetite, interestingly crisps are still one thing I can always eat without having to force it. When my mum was dying I ate a LOT of crisps and just went with it.

Do you have any snack that is so moreish and palatable you would keep wandering back for another helping, and so tend not to buy?

There are some things I find hard to stop eating, mainly nuts if any kind.

I don’t eat sugar or crisps so I can easily have them in the house for the kids.
back in my youth I struggled to not drink Pepsi daily, but then I found that fizzy water was a great substitute

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 26/03/2023 21:51

I keep a fair bit of junk in the house, I can’t think of anything I wouldn’t keep at home because it’s that nice.

Lovelydaytomorrow · 26/03/2023 21:52

Nope, I can't have a single thing in the house. I have zero will power and would eat my way through anything that is nice, sweet and unhealthy.

If DH wants crisps in the house, he has to buy cheese and onion (the flavour of the devil) and I get aldi cheap buttons in for the kids because they are disgusting!

Anything else will be eaten until its gone.

Upsywavy · 26/03/2023 21:52

Cadbury raisin brunch bars. Specific I know but if I buy a box they'll all be gone within a day. I generally don't keep chocolate in just as don't eat it often and buy it as I want it, fine with crisps aside from monster munch.

I love nuts, but they fill me up quite fast I think.

AmandaHoldensLips · 26/03/2023 21:54

Nice cheese. Just no. I cannot sleep knowing it's in the fridge calling me....

I think Nutella might be the only thing I probably shouldn't have in the house. But even that lasts a reasonable length of time on the occasions we do buy it.

I know someone who is OBSESSED with dieting, is always on a very restrictive diet, buys Ozempic online and the rest of it, who cannot be left unattended around anything sweet. She will demolish the whole thing, whatever it is, and gets irate if anyone leaves her alone with chocolate or whatever. So I sometimes think if we weren't so hung up on not eating The Bad Thing, we might be less likely to fall off the wagon in dramatic style!

But that said, I do remember Nutella becoming a bit of a crutch during some of the most stressful times in my life. Maybe I need to keep a jar of it around at all times to remove that association

owiz · 26/03/2023 21:57

Yes. I'm actually better if I've got things in, I will limit myself to 1 or 2 a day. If I haven't I'm more likely to go to the shops and buy something bigger.

wendywoopywoo222 · 26/03/2023 21:59

Chocolate. Sweets. Crisps. Cakes. Cheese. Sweet cereal. Bread. Icecream.

Don't keep them in just to give myself the best chance of not bingeing.

owiz · 26/03/2023 21:59

Oh yes except Nutella as @HelenaHurricane says, if it's in the house I will spoon it! When I buy it for pancake day I let the kids have Nutella on toast as much as they want so it goes quickly!

megletthesecond · 26/03/2023 21:59

I always have lots of "junk" in the house. I can eat just a couple of biscuits and stop.
M&S salt n vinegar popped rice crisps test my willpower though, I have to make sure a big bag lasts two days.

whoruntheworldgirls · 26/03/2023 22:06

Ice cream. I just keep going, saying I'm levelling it off 😂

familyissues12345 · 26/03/2023 22:11

I struggle with biscuits, just too easy to eat the whole packet. So only buy for very special occasions.

Love all things junk, but can control myself so we always have chocolate/crisps etc in

Stormydanielss · 26/03/2023 22:21

I don't buy chocolate stuff on the weekly shop as we would eat it 😂 but sometimes we walk the dog purposely to the shop to buy some.
At the minute I could eat lentil crisps till they come out my ears! I'm a bad girl for crisps

alpacamaraca · 26/03/2023 22:25

Jaffa cakes or Cadbury's chocolate fingers, eat them until the packet's empty!

VyeBrator · 26/03/2023 22:29

No I'm quite lucky in that I have no trouble having a bit of something and then stopping.

Having said that, there was a time I ate far too many crisps because I bloody love them, but now I've got high blood pressure I avoid eating more than about 2 packets a week.

Mind you I savour every single one of them when I do open a pack 😍

TheChosenTwo · 26/03/2023 22:29

Oh I love a Jaffa cake!
I buy all things sweet and savoury snack wise, I’m a fiend for it all but only in that I have something every day, I don’t deprive myself anything but I am quite disciplined about not overdoing it.
I could easily eat a family size sharing bag of crisps and then probably a box of Jaffa cakes but I know my stomach will gripe
me all night!

Denialisariverinegypt · 26/03/2023 22:30

Crispy extra spicy chilli beef from the Chinese. That's all. I don't like sweets, chocolate , crisps, cakes. I don't get that compulsion too eat

whyhere · 27/03/2023 08:07

Chocolate. Salted nuts. Cheese other than parmesan (use it on/in hot dishes). Ice cream. Bread.

newnamethanks · 27/03/2023 08:38

I'm always surprised by people who have snack cupboards stuffed with everything that I buy in occasional single packs. It would be impossible for me, I'd eat my way through the lot, sweets, crisps, chocolate, nuts etc in a few days. Kids wouldn't stand a chance in the rush to snacking hell. Can't do it, I have no self control in this regard.

BluetheBear · 27/03/2023 08:40

I keep chocolate, sweets, ice cream at home. I prefer to know it's there when I want it!
