Do you get stressed signing your signature?

Just that really, do you get stressed out signing your signature for important documents etc?

I always have and I don’t know why! In the back of my mind I feel like whoever it is will judge my signature or dispute who I am if my signature doesn’t match…

Am I being crazy and should relax or is this a normal thing? Light hearted please! Don’t suggest I need therapy etc… I am aware a lot of people will think I am weird!

No, why would I - who judges someone on their signature?

You are a bit weird Grin

embarrassed23 · 22/03/2023 16:42

Yes mainly because I got married 18 months ago and still haven't got the hang of my new signature/surname 😂

LemonLion · 22/03/2023 16:44

Yes!! Especially nowadays when I hardly ever have to do it. My signature is a bit rubbish and I worry it’s not always the same. You’re not alone OP

No need for this. People have lots of strange and intrusive thoughts, this is pretty tame.

PacificallyRequested · 22/03/2023 16:46

No. Confused

Sundaycoffeeisthebest · 22/03/2023 16:48

It is a thing, and I believe that it has a name. I come across it with clients at work from time to time - I've had clients take 30 mins to sign sometimes.

JarByTheDoor · 22/03/2023 16:49

No I don't feel stressed about it, but I have actually had my signature disputed by the bank when opening a new savings account, because it didn't perfectly match the one on file from when I opened my current account as an 11 year old Hmm Was a whole thing, I had to go into a bigger branch further away from me and get a new witnessed reference signature and shit (something like that, anyway, it was a while ago).

CambsAlways · 22/03/2023 16:50

Not at all no op

Polas · 22/03/2023 16:53

I used to, as it pretty much looked different everytime I signed! But i haven't had to manually sign anything for so long now.

WordleInTwo · 22/03/2023 16:54

My OH is like this.
I just thought it was one of his quirks, but maybe it's more common?

PuppyMonkey · 22/03/2023 17:01

I used to sign my name completely differently, it was an elaborate squiggle and I very rarely managed to replicate it properly every time. So about ten years ago, I changed it to just my name written normally and now all my official things have the new version. Such a relief!

Upallnightfeeding · 22/03/2023 17:01

That’s interesting, maybe this ‘fear’ does have a name! Lol

And I have recently got married and have a new signature. I changed my signature obviously with the name change to make it slightly easier but it hasn’t eased my stress ☹️

Also, as someone mentioned in this day and age it’s a rare occasion you need to sign so when you do it feels like a bigger deal

@JarByTheDoor this is exactly what I get stressed about… the what if this happens! Obviously easily enough to work with the bank to fix the problem but it wouldn’t be ideal to have the hassle

JarByTheDoor · 22/03/2023 17:10

Well, that's the "what if", the worst that can happen more or less, and if you follow through the thought process through of "and what then", it's not horrendous enough to warrant causing yourself distress every time you need to sign something. Maybe, if you're unlucky, once in your life you might sign your signature in a way or a circumstance that means you have to take an hour out of your life to go and do some tedious admin thing.

Ireallywantsomechips · 22/03/2023 17:13

Yes! My signature is just a scribble and it’s never the same

RavenT · 22/03/2023 17:17

Yes. It IS a thing I believe, though not very common.

Years ago I used to hate taking stuff back to shops as you invariably had to sign a receipt.

I'm not comfortable with anyone watching me write tbh, hate it at work if someone passes ne a card to sign and then watches and waits whilst I do so,....

BasiliskStare · 22/03/2023 17:24

The only time I ever worry about my signature is on a passport application and you have to keep it within the box on the form. Apart from that no - I just do it. Although my signature is still my maiden name from 30 years ago so I think I have some muscle memory 😊

Coffeeisnecessary · 22/03/2023 17:26

I get quite nervous too op! I'm not sure why!!

Elvira2000 · 22/03/2023 17:27

Yes!

Elphame · 22/03/2023 17:31

No - I've signed too many documents with legal significance to give it a second thought.

Ask me to sign on those touch pads that the delivery drivers use though and it's a different story. Absolutely hate them.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 22/03/2023 17:36

I have to sign my name multiple times a day (Midwife, paper records). Mine is a sort of squiggle that I made up when I was in my 3rd year of midwifery age 20. I realised quickly that signing my name needed to be fast, as in a labour record.you could be signing upwards of 50 times.
When I married 10 years later the NMC wanted a new specimen signature for my name change. No way I was changing it after all that time! So I just kept it and wrote next to my new signature that I wasn't changing it! They accepted it!
I must admit though, I don't really see the point in a signature as as you say, they look different frequently. Most people these days barely sign anything so perhaps it will fade out as a "thing". If you don't have to sign regularly, maybe just change it to your name written out. Who can argue against it?! I've seen a few like that over the years!

GreenMarigold · 22/03/2023 17:39

I love using my signature! I thought about it a lot when I got married and spent quite a while doodling around until I created one that has really nice flow.

It’s also got a couple of secret tiny markers in so I’ve got a chance of telling if someone has copied it.

I think I’m probably odd for having thought about it so much!

That sounds interesting, can you give a general idea of what you are?

I don't get stressed with signatures in general but I had to start using an old bank account recently and can't remember if I used to use short or long signature. Next time I'm in branch I'll write down both and ask them which one.

GreenMarigold · 22/03/2023 19:21

What I am? As in my job? I have to sign legal documents quite frequently but really I just love playing with words and writing.

Workinghardeveryday · 22/03/2023 19:25

Nope. I sign my name through work so many times it doesn’t look like a name. Just a weird pattern.

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest!
