to think that 2 nappy changes in a 9 hour day at nursery isn't enough?

Today my daughter did her first early shift at nursery, got there at 7.30 and i picked her up about 4.30 so about a 9 hour day.

Have got home and read her contact book to find only 2 nappy changes through the day.

When she is at home i change her after every feed.... so prob more like 4/5 changes in a 9 hour day.
Am i being an unreasonable fussy mother from hell.....or are they being unreasonable?

Two fresh nappies doesn't sound very good for dd.

Is this a one-off, or has it been regular ?

orchide tbh if the nappy is wet I don't change it all the time but if it is pooey I do so for me it would depend on if they had done a poo or not I don't change my ds after every feed
so you maybe a bit

How old is she?
My DS is 2 and he would only be changed twice usually in that time (once about every 4 hours or so I find is usally fine) unless he does a poo of course!
When he goes to nursery they do the same there as well

Is she in disposables or cloth?

2 changes in that time seems fine to me - presumably she was in a clean one when she went in. Most disposables (or even cloth) are ok for 4 hours, so say she was changed at 10.30am, and again at 2.30pm, you collect her at 4.30pm... 2 would be about right for me.

If you want her changed more though, say! You are paying them to care for her, if you feel it isn't what you want, then say so.

hmm - I'd probably have done 3 in that time (poos notwithstanding) so not way off.

I change dd 3hrly though (poos notwithstanding obv), not on the same schedule as her feeds.

Shes almost 9 months and in disposables.

. I think i might have a quiet word, as you say flamesparrow i am paying for their service.

I think two sounds fine and ds wouldn't have had more changes than that at home. I figure with disposables (which can absorb plenty) you don't change them more often than you have to - if the child's skin is fine, then no need to change IMO. The less you throw away the better; no point in changing a nappy that doesn't need changing.

I don't think it's an issue at all so long as the baby's skin is fine.

We had similar worries with the nursery DD has just started at. DH drops her off/picks her up and asked and they had done more checks, but didn't change if the nappy was dry, which seemed reasonable to us.

Unless it had more than a couple of wee's in it, I wouldnt have changed it. If she didnt have a lot to drink then there wouldnt have been much in it anyway.
I think maybe 3 times would be a reasonable number of times to change - but FIVE?!?!

Thats an awful lot - and you use disposables - thats a lot of rubbish too.

yes I agree mumzy, I think changing after every feed whether the nappy is full or not, is really wasteful...I find it quite shocking! Obviously I'm not saying this is the worst thing in the world, I just find it needlessly wasteful

Surely she should be changed when she needs to be changed? Any more is wasteful and unnecessary. If she was not being changed enough, she would be sore, in which case, they should change her more. If she is not, then what is the issue?

Orchide - does your dd have a sore bottom?any redness?if not then i would imagine they have been adequate checks. but put your mind a t ease and let them know dd routine.

but yanbu. if it is important to you, then by all means query. put your mind at ease

I do hope your dd enjoys nursery

its actully more likely 5 to the end of the day. So 5 does sound a lot, but shocking!!!

that's every 3 hours - which is fine as long as the nappy isn't soiled.

smashing glad your dd enjoys nurserykeep an eye on her daily reports over a week period, monitor skin integrity. it is a big deal to put your wee angel in nursery (i do) and naturally you want the best.

I would think at that age the nappy should be changed at least once every four hours, then if you factor in a pooey one that makes about four changes. If it were me I would say something to them, but gently as she enjoys it which is the number one thing.

It is shocking when you think 5 nappies a day x 365 days in one year = 1825 nappies a year going to landfill (and that's just one baby).

In response to the op, I agree with those posters saying that it sounds about right if no pooey nappies.

fwiw, my we one suffers deradful eczema (red, weeping, inflammed) i was checking and changing hourly - go do the maths on that

My thinking is that if a nappy can last 12 overs over night I didn't need to change so many in the day - unless pooy of course so we have 8am nappy. 12 noon nappy 4pm nappy and bedtime nappy - so that is 4 a day. No sore bum or anything so think it must be ok.
