to think that 2 nappy changes in a 9 hour day at nursery isn't enough?

Today my daughter did her first early shift at nursery, got there at 7.30 and i picked her up about 4.30 so about a 9 hour day.

Have got home and read her contact book to find only 2 nappy changes through the day.

When she is at home i change her after every feed.... so prob more like 4/5 changes in a 9 hour day.
Am i being an unreasonable fussy mother from hell.....or are they being unreasonable?

My minded children arrive at 8, changed before lunch, - 11.30 ish after a nap 2.30 and before they always go home in a clean nappy at 4.30, and extra change if they have done a poo. I've been changing nappies for 21 years!

very very bad practice!
you really should complain / inform ofsted i'm afraid.

I assumed sugarskyhigh was aiming for humour/sarcasm with her post.

I hope sugarskyhigh was joking. I would say 3 disposables in 9 hours is very reasonable- unless she poos a lot! How many times does a 9mo have a feed in 9 hours anyway- surely only lunch plus 1-2 bottles? So that would only be about 2 changes anyway.

A wet disposeable can last all night without needing changing and doesn't cause nappy rash so 3-4 hours is fine. Even a real nappy can last 3 hours!

juuule · 13/02/2008 08:40

A 'real' nappy can also last all night without needing changing or causing nappy rash.

I wouldn't be concerned unless your dd was sore because she had been sitting in a wet nappy for too long.

Orchide · 13/02/2008 09:02

OK everyone i get the point....2 changes in 9ish hours is about right and i am being a bit of a fussy first time mother

Here endeth the thread!!!!

Depends on how heavily your child wets and what sort of nappies he/she is in. A heavy wetter in cloth would struggle and maybe be miserable. A light wetter (like ds2) in Pampers would be bone dry all day.

crace · 13/02/2008 09:15

Orchide, I know you are done getting advice but I just wanted to say I would have been upset like you - I think 4/5 is more reasonable. I have a baby, 11 mos with me 4 days a week and I get through 4 definitely if not 5. Don't feel bad, if you don't feel it's right then I would say something!

Flibbertyjibbet · 13/02/2008 09:59

I thought Sugarsky was commenting on the nursery that wouldn't change a child who arrived in a dirty nappy, for several hours until their pre-ordained 'changing time'.

Baffy · 13/02/2008 10:07

Surely it depends how much your baby drinks?

My ds drinks lots of water, always has, so always needs nappy changes every 2/3hours.

His cousins of the same age don't go through nearly as many nappies.

Depends on the child. And if you're not happy, then you have every right to talk to them about it.

giddybiddy · 13/02/2008 10:47

Again I haven't read this thread properly, but most nurseries have set times - about 4 a day for nappy changing but if dirty should change immediately. Why don't you just ask the nursery's policy? If you are not happy with answer tell them that your little one has very sensitive skin and you would like them to check it every 2 hours. I agree that 2 nappy changes in 9 hours doesn't seem a great deal when at nursery, my little one has her nappy changed more often at nursery than at home as I tend to go for the leave until soggy or dirty option.........

SugarSkyHigh · 13/02/2008 12:42

this kind of thing can make the difference between a 'satisfactory' and a 'good' in terms of ofsted. And you have the right as a parent to request how often you want your child changed. The nursery should accommodate your wishes
