To think they should have moved for customers

Arrived a few minutes early for my hair appointment and the small sofa had a mum and daughter taking it. No problem, they were there first and it probably won’t be long. I stand around waiting for my appointment (so as not to drip feed I’ve been standing all morning and would have preferred to sit down). As I’m stood there I realise that they are there to ask about a Saturday job for the daughter. Now probably the salon owner should have asked them to stand up, but don’t you think that’s common sense - that if you’re there for a job you don’t occupy the only seats and make the paying customer stand?

What? Don't be so ridiculous.

PlateBilledDuckyPerson · 11/03/2023 16:09

If I were hiring, it wouldn't create a great first impression!

Itsaloadofbollocks · 11/03/2023 16:09

YABU they were there waiting to speak to someone, just like you were waiting for your hairstylist.

MichelleScarn · 11/03/2023 16:09

Of course! Make sure the daughter knows her serfdom place in relation to the mighty customer from the off!! How very dare they!

Lockheart · 11/03/2023 16:10

Who gives a shit, honestly.

If you need a seat (due to a disability for example) then you ask.

takealettermsjones · 11/03/2023 16:10

...no? Unless there's a sign saying "sofa for paying customers only" then they were doing nothing wrong. It's a waiting area, and they were waiting.

LucyLeave · 11/03/2023 16:11

Maybe the hairdresser told them to take a seat and wait and so they did.

Ohdearnotagain76 · 11/03/2023 16:11

They might of been told to take a seat and wait for manager to be available

Karwomannghia · 11/03/2023 16:12

I agree with you, if they were just popping in to ask for work. But also the daughter really needs to go in on her own. My dd needed several attempts to go into cafes and ask on her own with me hidden round the corner! The whole set up seems a bit odd.

MichelleScarn · 11/03/2023 16:13

Do you know I've also heard bus drivers will still be seated when there's standing customers.... you just can't get the staff these days!

SunshineGeorgie · 11/03/2023 16:13

I don't see the issue?

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 11/03/2023 16:15

It was a few minutes and you were likely about to be seated for a fair bit whilst getting your hair done. I fail to see the issue.

Notimeforaname · 11/03/2023 16:15

This is not an issue.

Seats are there for people to use for whatever reason.

Those people got there first and used the seats.

This is how non reserved seating has worked since chairs have existed...

Blablablanamechangagain · 11/03/2023 16:15

wait what?! You're annoyed that people were using the waiting area
.....

To wait in?

You know absolutely no one owes you fucking anything don't you. Jeez.

MidgeHardcastle · 11/03/2023 16:15

They were probably told to take a seat, did you think of that? Or maybe they thought you were there for a job as well? If it even crossed their minds that is. It wouldn't have crossed mine that you were annoyed at not having a seat.

Greenfairydust · 11/03/2023 16:19

You sound like hard work...

Unless you are disabled/elderly I don't see anything wrong with you having to wait for a bit and stand around.

They were there first and were probably told to take a seat until a manager could speak to them.

Frankly the salon should provide seats for more than 2 people in their waiting area in the first place.

The fact that you are a ''paying customer'' does not make you better or more important than anyone else.

Snoken · 11/03/2023 16:19

This is a bit bonkers. You were there waiting, albeit for different things, but that’s irrelevant.

SunshineGeorgie · 11/03/2023 16:23

I think the op is insinuating their should be an hierarchy here.....

SunshineAndFizz · 11/03/2023 16:25

😂😂😂

Cosyblankets · 11/03/2023 16:26

First come first seated

Yes, she has money to spend, the others are there to hopefully make money. If you have money you get to sit. Those in need of it can stand.

carriedout · 11/03/2023 16:28

I really couldn't get worked up about this. They were waiting, you were waiting.

Couldyounot · 11/03/2023 16:28

Come on now.

Toottooot · 11/03/2023 16:29

Maybe they’d be standing all morning too 🤷🏻‍♀️

5128gap · 11/03/2023 16:29

Not the fault of the mum and daughter at all. Obviously they'd been told to sit there.
If you're looking for someone to blame its the hairdresser for mismanaging the appointments so badly you have to wait so long standing is a problem; or yourself for getting there so early you had to stand so long it was a problem.
