Baby under 6 months old left to sleep for 15 and a half hours?

This doesn't seem right to me! Wouldn't you be worried?

I saw a social media post where a baby's grandparents were proud that the baby went to sleep at 7pm and was still asleep at 10.20 the next morning. Isn't that too long? What about the nappy?

I would be worried about the baby, not pleased with it. Or AIBU?

I try not to think about all the horrible ways people behave towards children. What's the point?

PennyRa · 10/03/2023 14:43

Dream feeding and changing are things

shakeitoffsis · 10/03/2023 14:55

Nope I wouldn't be worried.

flapjackfairy · 10/03/2023 14:57

is the baby being fed during that time ? if not then I.agree it is too long for no fluids and feed for a small baby.

mummyh2016 · 10/03/2023 15:11

Honestly it's unlikely baby won't have woke up at all in that time, even if it's just for a dummy. But no I wouldn't worry.

Bunnyishotandcross · 10/03/2023 15:14

Ds slept from 7pm all night from 2 weeks old. I used to poke him a lot!

WhatNoRaisins · 10/03/2023 15:14

I'd worry they weren't well

Barannca · 10/03/2023 15:16

That is very unusual I would worry they were ill.

Ritualofayurveda · 10/03/2023 15:26

Mine slept for 13 hours 45 mins one night without waking, though think he was about 9 months. I couldn't believe it when I woke up (hadn't set alarm), but he was completely fine.
A weird thing for them to post on social media though.

LakeTiticaca · 10/03/2023 15:54

Assuming regular checks were made to ensure the bairn was OK, I wouldn't worry too much

smellyflowers · 10/03/2023 15:56

Oh god I hope they fed it

TwistAgain · 10/03/2023 16:12

What an odd thing to share on social media. I wonder what the motivation would be for posting this...

Sleepless1096 · 10/03/2023 16:12

I would be poking and checking temperature quite a lot.

But I do remember one night my DC1 slept until 11am (a bit older though, around 13 months). I couldn't believe it and I think I'll have to wait until the teen years for it to happen again!

KillingLoneliness · 10/03/2023 16:14

I was a sleepy baby, caused my mum endless stress as she’d have to wake me for feeds etc but I wouldn’t take them, luckily nothing was wrong with me I just slept a lot! As long they kept checking on the baby to make sure all is well I can’t see a major issue.

ringofrosies · 10/03/2023 16:15

I’m sure they would have been checking on said baby regularly. Some babies do sleep round the clock from young (maybe not to this extreme) and I would take from it that this baby was warm and comfortable. I’m sure they’d have woken if hungry.

Gincan · 10/03/2023 16:17

Mine have done this once or twice. They'd wake up briefly at their normal time and then fall back to sleep for a couple of hours. They would kind of over sleep and it would really mess them up so they didn't want to nap and then they'd be grumpy for the rest of the day. The grandparents might regret it later!

WimbyAce · 10/03/2023 16:41

Hoping it was fed otherwise yes that sounds too long for an under 6 months baby.

ThreeFeetTall · 10/03/2023 17:26

How old was the baby?

WonderingWanda · 10/03/2023 17:40

I would be worried about a baby that age sleeping for that long, it's more than 'through the night.

namechangeforthisbleep · 10/03/2023 23:36

They're lying

sweeneytoddsrazor · 10/03/2023 23:43

One of mine slept through the night from the first night. I was still in hospital and terrified to look in the cot. He continued to sleep very well including through a show one night that contained gunfire until he was about 15 when he changed to more normal teenage hours. His older brother was total opposite bloody nightmare to get him.to sleep

😂

balconylife · 11/03/2023 00:05

When I thought my baby was sleeping too much it turned out she had a kidney infection. So it would raise alarm bells with me.

TheHouseNextDoor · 11/03/2023 00:09

Some of you are bat shit crazy. Both mine slept 12 -14 hours a night, consistently from 3.5 months old.

...and no, I'm not lying.
