I'm talking about this horrific story. Surely someone saw something! My heart goes out to this poor lady's family.

I don't know why it's got a present date on that report. It happened in 2018. Someone was arrested in 2021 over 13 charges of murder, rape and sexual assault on patients. I don't know if it ever got to court.

LakeTiticaca · 10/03/2023 11:12

@MarshaMelrose yes you're right, this was all over news a few years ago then it all went very quiet 🤔

HoldingTheDoor · 10/03/2023 11:15

Because Crimestoppers are offering a reward to try to bring attention to the case again.

HoldingTheDoor · 10/03/2023 11:16

And unfortunately utterly horrific as it is, I find it all too believable that it could happen on a hospital ward.

Oh, thank you, I didn't know that.
I just looked up what happened. A man, Hernando Puno, was charged with 9 sexual offences but not the murder. I guess either they can't prove he did the murder or now believe they're not connected.
To be honest, Blackpool Victoria does not have the best reputation.

PandasAreUseless · 10/03/2023 11:27

It doesn't surprise me at all.
I went to a major hospital with mum recently for a breast cancer appointment. We wandered in off the street, no security, noone checking where we were going.
We were eventually told the nurse we needed was elsewhere and we should wait on a couple of chairs in a corridor. The lights were dim, there was noone around and we didn't set eyes on another soul for 45 mins.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/03/2023 11:31

This was on Crimewatch live last week. Absolutely horrific thing to Halley, but how could it happen on a busy ward. Even in a side room. People around and in and out all the time.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/03/2023 11:32

All the wards in my trust have swipe card access. You can't just walk in.

WiIson · 10/03/2023 11:33

That is appalling.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/03/2023 11:38

It is like a nightmare.

He wasn’t a stranger who wandered in but a health care worker at the hospital.

Not inclined to give the Sun a hit. Perhaps people could just copy and paste the story next time.

My son is currently in hospital in critical care,he awaiting a general ward bed , I can't just walk in to.the ward ,the staff have to let me in but I can freely walk into the hospital.and wander the corridors of I so wished

Or you could find your own link elsewhere.

That man was an employee at the hospital.

ScrollingLeaves · 10/03/2023 11:42

This person did not wander in but was part of the workforce apparently,

Btjdkfnn · 10/03/2023 11:43

It’s utterly horrific.
But sadly it is not at all surprising.
This country is broken and every day most of us pretend it’s not. Complete head in sand as a nation.

Found guilty of sexual assaults. Will be sentenced in April.

Its actually too horrific to copy and paste, and I don't say that lightly.

I'm guessing its back as the man they originally arrested for it didn't do this particular crime. My heart goes out to the family. Where were the nurses though, surely there would be at least one on a stroke ward for monitoring purposes??

MarshaMelrose · 10/03/2023 11:48

drpet49 · 10/03/2023 11:41

That man was an employee at the hospital.

Yes, I know. He was suspended and then arrested for sexual assaults and the murder. He was only charged with the assaults which were against co-workers. He was found guilty last month.

Vinvertebrate · 10/03/2023 11:49

As a relative of a former doctor at BV, that hospital is absolutely fucking grim even by the NHS’ catastrophically low standards.

Cocobutt · 10/03/2023 11:58

This is awful!

The man responsible is obviously very dangerous and would have done similar before and carry on doing it if he’s not caught.

I thought there was CCTV in all wards?

Vibrantlinda1964 · 10/03/2023 12:00

Well I'm quite shocked that if the poor lady bled to death, how the drs and nurses didn't see all the blood, on the bed/covers. It seems a cover up if nobody saw the fact she was bleeding which probably isn't normal for stroke(especially where the blood was from).. Such a horrific situation. 😥

picklemewalnuts · 10/03/2023 12:03

So they assumed a staff member who sexually assaulted other staff members also committed this crime, and now realise he didn't? So are looking for someone else?

So there were two sexual predators active in the hospital?

JackiePlace · 10/03/2023 12:05

That was my thought. The wards are usually busy... staff, patients, visitors... not to mention cameras (possibly). How doule an attack like that possibly take place without anyone noticing...

I can see how easily it happens, a typical ward in my hospital has 4 back bays 2 with 6 beds and 2 with 4, then usually a 4 beded bay in the middle then a minimum of 6-10 cubes, its quite a large area to cover, 30 patients!

Most night shifts are 2 nurses and 2 auxiliaries and days not much better. If you have a room with 4 confused or sick patients you’re going to spend a lot of time in there and not much in the others some patients especially the ‘wellest’ or most capable will often not see anyone for a couple of hours, possibly more!

There just isn’t enough of us to get round and check on everyone regularly 😢 it’s heartbreaking no one should come to harm in the place they should be the most safe!
