To ask if till dates and times are accurate?

Long story short, I think my partner is lying to me but it rests on the time and date on a receipt. If someone bought something at JD on 7th March, is there any possibility the time and date on the would show 9th March at 9.42am?
This is such a petty question I know!!

Do you have access to the bank account used if it was a card transaction ?

Changingplace · 09/03/2023 20:14

No, dates and times on receipts are usually accurate, I have to log receipts regularly for work and they always match up - sometimes the money might not leave my account the same day but the transaction is correct.

neighboursmustliveon · 09/03/2023 20:14

I can't imagine it could be wrong, they are computers and would be connected to the internet I assume so automatically update.

Was whatever purchased by card? Can a bank statement back up the purchase?

SilverBirchWithout · 09/03/2023 20:20

The only likely discrepancy would be in a leap year after 29th Feb, or perhaps an hours difference when the clocks change in March and October. Some older tills require manual adjustment. Your scenario seems highly unlikely, maybe a power outage could distort the date but it would be the other way round.

Custardbanana · 09/03/2023 20:23

Most epos till systems are on a windows operating system which is connected to the internet which is where it would sync date and time.

DanceMonster · 09/03/2023 20:24

The chances of it showing a date 2 days in the future are very very slim

Zola1 · 09/03/2023 20:25

Thank you all! It was purchased this morning by card, but not his card. I think it suggests he wasn't at work when he says he was, or that someone else has been in our house (think it's the first), as it was there when I got home before him! He completely denies that it was purchased this morning even though I took a photo of the time and date, and the store etc from the receipt. He said the time etc must have been wrong.
I've never worked in retail so I have no idea about these sort of things.

Wonderful 🙃. All men are awful, aren't they?

Think of all the police programmes where a till receipt proves that a suspect wasn't at the murdered person's house at the time of the murder.

Have you considered texting JD about whether or not there was a computer issue on till receipts on the day in question ?

katmarie · 09/03/2023 20:26

Vanishingly unlikely. As others have said most tills are online or at least linked to a local network, where they would get the time digitally. Having receipts printing a date and time two days out would be enough to take a till offline for repair.

BluebellBlueballs · 09/03/2023 20:27

I don't think so, I got charged twice for something once in a shop and they brought the cctv up to the exact date and time to verify I'd not just bought 2 of the same thing and was blagging them

DashboardConfessional · 09/03/2023 20:29

They're accurate, I'm afraid, especially in a big chain. They have to be for refund timescales.

winterchills · 09/03/2023 20:31

Yes definitely accurate!

Scoobydoobydoobydoo0987 · 09/03/2023 20:35

I've had the receipt differ by an hour before when the clocks have gone back/forward but not 2 days. I mean, it could be possible to have the wrong date on the receipt. I would personally go to the same JD sports and purchase something and then see what the receipt says. See if it is out by 2 days and if so he was telling the truth or if not you know he's lying. You could purchase a small item and then return it a few minutes later saying you changed your mind. I think that's the only way to know for sure. The other strange thing is whose card was it purchased using?

I had similar in Asda, but it was my fault I had scanned a jumper through selfscan twice and realised when I got home. They checked CCTV at the correct time to check and refunded my money. You would never know I work in a supermarket 😂 our tills are accurate too.

katmarie · 09/03/2023 20:36

Ah so the receipt you have found says the item was bought this morning and he's saying it was bought two days ago, and that he was at work this morning? And you've found the receipt in your house, where he was saying he hasn't been this morning?

Doesn't look good for him does it?

DashboardConfessional · 09/03/2023 20:38

How random though. Why's he in JD Sports at half 9 on a weekday? Has he secretly been sacked and is going home again when you leave for work?

No, I think he might have been with someone else as I've had a few concerns around his ex lately, which would also fit the different bank card being used.
The job he does is flexible so he could easily be on toil part of the day or whatever. Which could be fine and legit but then...why lie?

For clarity for someone else who asked, I came home from work early and there was a shoe box in the hall, it was new trainers for him, I opened it to see what he had bought (I'm a trainer lover!) and then saw on the receipt the date and time was this morning. And then noticed it wasn't his card number.. I realise I sound like a weirdo but initially just wondered innocently when he bought them as I didn't remember him mentioning. I've asked him and he said oh no I got them on Tuesday the till must have just been wrong.

So what does he say about it not being his card?

Thisismyusernamefornow · 09/03/2023 21:47

Apple Pay shows a different card number. Maybe need to check the account.

Oh super helpful actually thanks very much for this, didn't think of that

Don't know what you're talking about Zola, why do you want to fall out over a pair of shoes?

I claim expenses and the date and time have been wrong maybe 2% of the time

QueefQueen80s · 10/03/2023 07:01

Yes to Apple Pay showing different card.

QueefQueen80s · 10/03/2023 07:02

Could you go to the jd and buy something little and check date? Or ask at till if their dates have been wrong?

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 10/03/2023 07:08

Do you think he's brought the ex in your house?
