Should a wife beater get a peerage?

Endlesssummer2022 · 07/03/2023 09:47

Boris Johnson has nominated his wife beating father for a peerage. He beat her so much that she spent nearly a year on a psychiatric ward.

He also nominated his siblings.

10% of the House of a Lords are Johnson appointees including the son of a KGB official. Isn’t it time the House of Lords was scrapped?

No member of a PM’s family should be given a seat in the Lords. Johnson is trolling us. He just doesn’t care.

Emotionalstorm · 07/03/2023 09:50

I don't really care if it's Boris Johnson's family or someone else. It's not like it affects me directly.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 07/03/2023 09:51

What has Sidney Johnson done to warrant a Peerage? Aside from being the father of an ex Prime Minister. Nothing that I can think of.
Does his son think he’ll it’ll pass to him via osmosis?

PersonaNonGarter · 07/03/2023 09:51

The problem is Boris Johnson, not the House of Lords. You are conflating the two.

Rishi will block Johnson appointments - but I thought Stanley’s was a knighthood not peerage - as just too embarrassing.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 07/03/2023 09:51

Obviously not - and also what he’s nominated for exactly? But to be honest the honours system has been ridiculous and controversial for years, if not forever.

So I take it you’re not a British citizen and are not impacted by any votes going through the House of Lords?

Of course they shouldn't. But your sources are hardly credible. No criminal allocations or charges have ever been brought, so it's a pretty hard reason to ban someone

MavisMcMinty · 07/03/2023 09:55

The only reason rancid old Stanley has been nominated is that he’s rancid Boris Johnson’s rancid old father. It’s not a good enough reason and should be blocked.

Endlesssummer2022 · 07/03/2023 09:55

He has never denied breaking his wife’s nose.

His Dad is a domestic abuser, and BJ is a text book narcissist

Boris, by this account, grew up unable to forge close relationships with men so sought out women as his soulmates instead, which explains his notoriously prolific love life, in which he recklessly poured out his heart to lovers in poems and letters, even threatening suicide to deter women from abandoning him.

This is straight from the narcissist handbook 😬

And we let him be prime minister!

TheVanguardSix · 07/03/2023 10:04

Honestly, those men are cut from the No Fucks Given cloth. It's astounding that the world gives them a platform; utterly mind-boggling that they are beloved by people. They're both walking, talking, living, breathing, space-taking, oxygen-sucking arseholes... running shit and wrecking lives (that's the part that I mind!).

He has never denied breaking his wife’s nose.

He's also never admired it, and the widely accepted story is that it was a defence to her attacking him.

Now, I'm not saying I believe that or that he deserves to be in the House of Lords. He doesn't for a lot of reasons. But court of public opinion is a dangerous way to make decisions

ilovesooty · 07/03/2023 12:43

He shouldn't be nominated for any form of honour, for many reasons.

mumoffourminimes · 07/03/2023 12:43

House of Lords needs to be scrapped for sure

Unfortunately, he gave his brother a peerage in 2020. It was nodded through. You're right, he doesn't give a tuppenny damn, because he's always got away with all of his shitty behaviour.

I couldn't agree more.

Corruption and corrupt behaviour doesn't bother you?

Sadly I imagine there are many with similar mindsets.

I don't think Boris or his dad are corrupt. We have a royal family who do a smashing job that the country love so what's the issue here.

BoringLittleMe · 07/03/2023 12:52

It angers me that someone can just choose who they want to be given a peerage. I couldn't care less if it was just a title, but the fact it then gives them the right to sit in the HoL is outrageous.

There needs to be a better system of merit, so people given titles for their achievements are allowed to vote, rather than people given titles as gifts (yes, I know they're all gifts, but hopefully you know what I mean).

They need to scrap a PM being allowed to gift to whoever. It should be a PM nominates people for their achievements and a group of "normal people" are chosen to okay them or not. A bit like jury duty.

Did you vote to Take Are Country Back and gain £350m a week for the NHS, by any chance?

Oh dear! Have you ever read a newspaper?
