Should a wife beater get a peerage?

Endlesssummer2022 · 07/03/2023 09:47

Boris Johnson has nominated his wife beating father for a peerage. He beat her so much that she spent nearly a year on a psychiatric ward.

He also nominated his siblings.

10% of the House of a Lords are Johnson appointees including the son of a KGB official. Isn’t it time the House of Lords was scrapped?

I don't think Boris or his dad are corrupt. We have a royal family who do a smashing job that the country love so what's the issue here.

corrupt
/kəˈrʌpt/
adjective
1.
having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.

LexMitior · 07/03/2023 13:00

Well it's ridiculous of course but yes this grotty man who broke his wife's nose should be considered, peerage or not, as a braggart and an embarrassment. Giving him a title won't change that.

I don't really care if it's Boris Johnson's family or someone else. It's not like it affects me directly.

Do you have any idea of what the House of Lords is for?

Oh dear! Have you ever read a newspaper?

Yes I do actually and there have been enquiries confirming that he has not broken the ministerial code. Was it a great decision, no! But was it technically within the rules yes !

SinnerBoy · 07/03/2023 13:04

What about giving 100 grand to Jennifer Arcruri, when they were having an affair? When she was entirely unqualified to run the company she did.

So they let of off, no biggie. Move along, nothing to see here.

2bazookas · 07/03/2023 13:06

We should all give thanks to Boris for hastening the urgent reformation of the HOL.

He was cleared of that - again no ministerial code was broken and she rendered services for which she was paid for which I am fine with.

PendleAbigail · 07/03/2023 13:12

ok lets have a sweep on how long before there are more members of the adult Johnson Family inside the House of Lords than out 😂😭 such brazen nepotism and lies, the sheer audacity of it is mind bending.

Topseyt123 · 07/03/2023 13:15

Of course Boris and his Dad are corrupt. They are a pair of arseholes.

I think it is a disgrace that Boris has even been allowed to nominate his Dad for a knighthood. Aren't they usually given in recognition of services rendered to good causes? What services has Stanley Johnson rendered?

It will be even more of a disgrace if the knighthood is granted, although there have been some questionable ones given recently, like to Gavin Williamson for instance.

POI , he gave his brother a peerage. Gropey old daddy is nominated for a knighthood.

The whole list sounds like payback for favours given. I hope Sunak has the backbone to prune it down.

The ex pm honours list is an abomination , should be the first thing abolished when the system is reviewed , as I hope it will be.

Honestly, those men are cut from the No Fucks Given cloth. It's astounding that the world gives them a platform; utterly mind-boggling that they are beloved by people. They're both walking, talking, living, breathing, space-taking, oxygen-sucking arseholes... running shit and wrecking lives (that's the part that I mind!).

Agreed.

Goodness me! You are very naïve, if you don't realise that the system is set up to fail, in disciplinary cases.

Even Gilead deserves better than Stanley Johnson.

I think the House of Lords should be abolished. What does it matter who is in it. The whole concept is corrupt.

No he wasn't cleared of that. The Independent Office for Police Conduct decided not to open an investigation due lack of evidence. However since then Johnson was a bit disparaging of Arcruri implying that she was a bit of a fantasist. She responded to that a few weeks ago by giving the GLA Oversight Committee inquiry all the contemporary documentation surrounding their relationship, financial exchanges and business activities.

The investigation has now been reopened and they are currently gathering evidence from the other parties they now know to have been involved. There are 2 investigions ongoing, one to determine if he abused his position to the benefit of Arcruri and a second to determine if he should face criminal charges for misconduct in public office.

What this space ...

Oh but it’s ok because they “know what a woman is”
FFS 🤦‍♀️

KTheGrey · 07/03/2023 15:30

I agree with having a higher House than the commons, but the Lords is not a good way to do it. Should be a different electoral or selection system. This is so corrupt.
