Cosori said in their instagram post this morning that it doesn't impact UK models

Emypoos · 25/02/2023 14:38

I'm having problems with the recall details. It doesn't include the UK. It then sends a generic message out repeating the same thing. How on earth do we do it from the UK?

Annie2023 · 25/02/2023 16:28

Bought mine from Amazon in January, and it’s the affected model number.
I’ve just argued with Amazon customer services who said no problem I could return for a refund BUT I’m quite sure I’m not struggling to a)find a box to put it in, b) inconveniencing myself returning it when the Cosori customers in the US just have to take photos of their affected air fryer and send to Cosori!
A manager is supposed to be getting back to me….

Clymene · 25/02/2023 16:33

The US uses an entirely different voltage to the U.K.

A recall in the US doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the products sold in the U.K.

I got mine from Amazon and people on my airfryer fb group have contacted Amazon and being told they can send it back for a refund.

but I like it and don’t want to if I don’t need to. But also don’t want a dangerous item.

Send it back and buy a new one the same?

CYK · 25/02/2023 20:03

Did a web chat with a robot but got passed on to a human who offered a refund. But told her I’m not interested in a refund as this has now become an essential piece of kitchen appliance in my house - besides the manufacturer offers unconditional replacement ( although at present in US, Mexico & Canada only) & one only needs to do is to send them an image of the model & batch number found at the bottom of the unit to register for a replacement which will be sent to your address free of charge. My unit is on the recall list published by Cosori & I bought mine from Amazon UK back in August 2021 - and they still have all my purchase records ….so, it’s not a problem for them to arrange with Cosori to organise the replacement. I’m sure we are not the “isolated” cases in the UK. As for whether the affected models are the same in both the US & UK, it’s likely there are the same as they all came from the same factories in China - I supposed that’s why they also need the batch number to enable them to go back to check their manufacturing/quality control audit trail to identify which models are affected. I believe Amazon UK has both the commercial muscles & moral obligation to expedite replacement for those who had bought the affected units from them. Just need to keep reminding them of their obligations to their customers.

Clymene · 25/02/2023 20:21

@CYK - we don't use the same voltage in the U.K. as in the US. There is no evidence that units manufactured for the European market are affected.

CrepeCaramel · 25/02/2023 20:42

I have the first model listed. I just went on Amazon live chat and at first was told the uk models not affected as others were told. I replied saying I was unhappy at using it from a safety point of view considering their recalls abroad. Straight away got processed to refund 👍

Do you have to return it at your expense?

CYK · 25/02/2023 21:01

@Clymene - I’m no electrician but I don’t think the difference in voltage has anything to do with it. The news report says it’s due to faulty “wire connections” which I suspect causes the sparking and leads to overheating in the heat element that generates the heat in the air fryer.

Is there any evidence of the issues happening in Europe?

CrepeCaramel · 25/02/2023 21:55

No, they’ve sent me a QR code for postage

CYK · 25/02/2023 22:03

@Clymene - no specific details on where the reports of heating is coming from other than it’s about 200 out of some 2 million units sold. However, in my webchat with Amazon UK I was advised not to use it any more - & mentioned that they will escalate it upwards for a decision - as another comment earlier in this thread had similarly indicated.

PurplePansy05 · 25/02/2023 22:12

Report this to Trading Standards and contact Which? Amazon will soon sort themselves out. I wouldn't be using the affected models, it's likely the exact same thing with a rewired plug and it's not clear what the issue is.

CambsAlways · 25/02/2023 22:52

Bloody typical we’ve just used our white corsori 5.8 same model number cp 158 AF and I’m furious I love it, we bought it in November 2022 in a right muddle now, as I’d also heard U.K. ones weren’t affected yet it also said those bought from amazon are

OntarioBagnet · 25/02/2023 23:00

Someone on the fb group has spoken to Corsori today who say the U.K. ones are fine. It’s the same model but the U.K. batch number ones have different wiring.

OntarioBagnet · 25/02/2023 23:01

I mean they could be bullshitting 🤷‍♀️

Annie2023 · 26/02/2023 04:11

….and now it’s on BBC News!

Emypoos · 26/02/2023 07:25

This is on Cosori page on facebook. I'm keeping mine now.

CambsAlways · 26/02/2023 09:34

Thanks so much for posting this Emypoos I’m so pleased I’m keeping mine too now, I was horrified to read they were recalling them I’ve only had mine since nov 22 and am shall we say obsessed with my white one 🤣

Stesha · 26/02/2023 09:41

I went on Amazon Chat this morning and was assured the recall does NOT apply to Cosori models sold in the UK (I have a CP158-AF).😀

Llouise55 · 26/02/2023 11:20

The recall is a result of the US CPSC (Consumer product safety commission). They may not have jurisdiction over UK purchases. Not recalling here, is not the same as "made differently and safe". Cosori need to put this in print, and not just refer to a US recall.

Jooseyjowse · 26/02/2023 11:40

I’m still not convinced Amazon know what they’re talking about especially with the conflicting messages. They ignore the fact that it’s the same model number too. I only got mine Monday and it’s going back. Absolutely not worth the risk.

monomatapea · 26/02/2023 11:44

Thanks my sister has an airfryer ill check if it's this one

Jooseyjowse · 26/02/2023 11:45

Emypoos · 26/02/2023 07:25

This is on Cosori page on facebook. I'm keeping mine now.

The fact it states “If this changes” just makes me worried. That’s why I would rather be safe than sorry. Yes I love the white one but it’s just not worth the risk. They’re all made in the factory and there are far too many conflicting messages. I have two child under 2 and I’m a single parent so it’s just not worth the risk to me.
