Shock Not only that, but they don't let you do two payments any more, it's DD or all in one.. I'm not on a meter. This is a raise of £200 on last year. Is everyone else having the same uplift?

Waste and incoming?

doesn’t seem too bad given the uplift

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 21/02/2023 16:10

Worth getting a meter? If you have more bedrooms than people you'd prob save money on a meter unless you use a LOT of water!

CheshireCats · 21/02/2023 16:10

Mine is under £300 pa for 5 of us! No waste though- septic tank.

bellabasset · 21/02/2023 16:15

My bills were £600 on my own back in 2010 so as a widow I changed to metered

Dinkleberg · 21/02/2023 16:16

Ours is £500 pa for four of us and I thought THAT was steep.

EuripidesEumenides · 21/02/2023 16:23

Chances are you are better off with a meter. If you don't live in a water stressed region you can switch to a meter on a trial basis of up to two years and switch back to unmetered if you aren't happy.

CountZacular · 21/02/2023 16:23

That seems really high! Our has increased by £60 but it’s still under £600 (for a family of 3). Definitely apply for a water meter. I believe you have some time to change your mind and go back to fixed if it doesn’t work for you.

Rebellious23 · 21/02/2023 16:23

That's a lot! Mine is about £22pm and live alone

Got my bill here. Says I use 135 litres per day and total is £313.55 (United utilities)

LakieLady · 21/02/2023 16:24

Bloody hell, that's shocking.

I live on my own and my bill (metered), for water and waste water, was £408 for 22/23. It will go up by 9%, so still under £500. And that's Southern Water, the 3rd most expensive in the country.

I've had a water meter for 20 years or more, and it made a decent saving the first year, even though my ex was still living here then.

Rayna37 · 21/02/2023 16:24

That's insane. Can you not get a meter?

As a comparison, large 4 bed house, 3 of us, metered is under £400 for the year.

Rebellious23 · 21/02/2023 16:24

And I'm metered! Definitely get a meter

whatsup00 · 21/02/2023 16:24

Get a meter. Mine was £90 a month without meter and £15 a month with meter. I am v v careful with water though.

Galadriel90 · 21/02/2023 16:25

Get a meter! We're on a meter and we pay £720 for a family of three.

beetr00 · 21/02/2023 16:27

@JesPrinee

Have a read here, it may help you decide meter or not 🙂

You need to get a meter, unless you are bathing twice a day and have an automated watering system in the garden..

There are two people in my house, on a meter, and this year we'll pay 382

Pardon44 · 21/02/2023 16:32

Mine is £420. We are 2 adults, 2 toddlers and a shit load of laundry.

AllWorkYoPlait · 21/02/2023 16:38

We pay 35 a month and for the last 6 month period were £100 in credit.

We aren't water conscious, though we don't have baths. Family of 3. Sometimes 4.

I'll take your water bill and trade for our electric though. That was £400 for January alone 🙁

PolicyOfTruth · 21/02/2023 16:41

If you're living on your own, there's no reason not to get a water meter. It will be significantly cheaper for you.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 21/02/2023 16:43

Honestly if you are on water rates and single, you need to swap to a meter (unless you live in a tiny old house).
We pay £540 pa for 3 adults.

FirstnameSuesecondnamePerb · 21/02/2023 16:44

Is it for 23/24? If so, get thee on a meter and you won't have to pay it!

DaveyJonesLocker · 21/02/2023 17:03

Are you on a water meter? Are you submitting readings? There's me and toddler DS here and I pay less than 200 a year.

WestwardHo1 · 21/02/2023 17:07

Are you SWW? We have by far the most expensive water in the country. However I live alone and I'm on a meter, and I still only pay £280 ish a year.

Query the bill then get a meter!

Dropzonefourpleaseben · 21/02/2023 17:09

If we hadn’t had a meter fitted about eight years ago, our annual bill would be close to £1,000 by now. As it is, our predicted bill for the next year is £420 which is £30 less than last year - no idea why. I’d advise anyone to get a meter.

GotABeatForYouMama · 21/02/2023 17:10

Get a meter. There are 2 of us here and we pay £16 pm.

WorkingFromHomeRocks · 21/02/2023 17:13

Ours has just gone up by £36.50 a month which is £438 a year!! 😬 😬 We’ve worked from home all through the pandemic and haven’t changed our usage habits. It’s mad. We’re now paying £86.50 a month for a 4 bed 3 bathroom house.
