To want to enjoy the flipping day?

I do all the food shopping and cooking. I happened to mention to my DH that it would be pancakes for tea tomorrow and he tutted and said 'ugh pancake day already - another bloody thing.'

For me, observing these days is just a bit of fun. I'm finding this attitude of his a bit depressing. It seems like everything like this is a big effort for him - valentine's day, mother's day etc. For this one though I just don't get it, someone is doing it all for you (fyi, he likes pancakes).

Is it a bit of a male thing or is he a killjoy (or am I overreacting?)

He's a killjoy.

Does he complain about the 'proper' meals you make or is it just when he hasn't got a 'proper' meal that he turns into a grumpy fool?

JaneorEleven · 20/02/2023 19:11

He sounds miserable. Is he adding value to your life in general? Do you have kids?

My DH can be a glass half empty type. More in relation to work things than family life. If he was stealing joy from our children I’d put my foot down.

NumberTheory · 20/02/2023 19:14

YANBU. He’s a killjoy. Don’t think it’s a particularly male thing, my DH and my brother are both big pancake day fans.

2crossedout1 · 20/02/2023 19:15

He sounds like a bit of a fun sponge. It's not causing him any extra hassle at all and yet he still has to moan!

itsabigtree · 20/02/2023 19:19

He sounds so boring

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/02/2023 19:21

I'm doing breakfast pancakes because it's half term in Wales. Then we'll have falafel pancake wraps in the evening

WonderingWanda · 20/02/2023 19:30

He's being miserable, give him a pot noodle for tea instead!

QueefQueen80s · 20/02/2023 19:44

Sounds like a fun sucker. I could never be with one!

Cuppaand2biscuits · 20/02/2023 19:47

My dh doesn't like Pancakes, me and the kids will have them and I made sure there's some leftovers from tonight that he can eat tomorrow.
Before we had kids I used to go to my mums for pancake day because its just not the same if you're the only one eating them!

ZoChan · 20/02/2023 19:48

😂 flipping day 😂

Eyerollcentral · 20/02/2023 19:55

Omg ultimate killjoy. Tell him his lack of enthusiasm for life is killing your enthusiasm for him. What a misery guts, life is really too short.

Didyou · 20/02/2023 19:57

Sounds like a misery guts.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/02/2023 19:57

Don't make him any and flip him the finger when he complains again.

Jux · 20/02/2023 20:15

What a PITA.

I make the batter, do the first ones, then each of us makes their own. Do that. He'll complain less after that.

LadyChatterlysLover · 20/02/2023 20:27

No pancakes for the resident wanker!

MysteryBelle · 20/02/2023 20:39

I love pancakes. He has a terrible attitude!

Mrstwiddle · 20/02/2023 20:47

Killjoy.

Galadriel90 · 20/02/2023 20:53

Don't make him any! Ungrateful sod.

DuesToTheDirt · 20/02/2023 21:02

Killjoy. I'd make them for myself and let him get his own tea.

Um I think you'll find it's BETTER if you're the only one eating them as = more pancakes for you!

Loveofhun · 21/02/2023 05:47

Thanks all. Was beginning to think it was just me. He's a bit stuck in routine. He's always hesitant when I suggest doing new things or going to new places and being a bit of an anxious person myself, this worries me because if we do try anything new and it doesn't go well, I feel very responsible.

I'm with him. Next thing we know there will be pancake day eve pyjama boxes and doorstep visits from Mr Pancake. Bah humbug.
