To ask when you brush your teeth in the morning?

My DH has an odd ( to me) view on dental habits. He thinks it's best to brush your teeth before breakfast. I'm firmly of the after breakfast and before - you-leave- the- house camp. So what do you do ?.

YABU - Yes I brush them when I get up, before breakfast

YANBU - yes I brush them after breakfast

Thanks folk

I don’t eat breakfast so I brush them when I get up and am washing my face!

girlfriend44 · 18/02/2023 14:56

after

Starlightstarbright1 · 18/02/2023 14:57

I don’t generally have breakfast but do have a cuppa before. Otherwise coffee and mint taste horrible

23Elfie · 18/02/2023 14:57

Definitely after breakfast! Cleans off any food and coffee breath 😂

NeedNwJeans · 18/02/2023 14:57

Well your DH is right if you follow any official advice.

ChChChChangeName · 18/02/2023 14:57

You should brush them before. Brushing too soon after a meal can damage your teeth (strange but true).

mynameisnotkate · 18/02/2023 14:58

I prefer to clean them after breakfast so I feel nice and minty fresh but my dentist always tells me to do them before breakfast.

FizzWhiz · 18/02/2023 14:58

After, but I wait around 15 minutes after eating before I brush my teeth.

Purplestorm83 · 18/02/2023 14:59

I prefer to brush after but it depends on the day if the week as I brush straight after my shower (which can be before or after breakfast)

Goldplatedbag · 18/02/2023 15:00

2nd thing I do after getting out of bed. Loo then brush teeth.

Although we were taught after meals as children, I believe current feeling is that doing it straight after a meal rubs the acid into your teeth and should therefore be avoided.

That's not why I do it first though - I can't imagine doing anything until I have a fresh mouth.

hellodarknessmyoldfriend22 · 18/02/2023 15:00

Dentist would tell you before is better, but I prefer after. Gives you fresh breath for the morning

Puddleofgoo · 18/02/2023 15:00

The advice is before or at least 30 minutes after, to the best of my recollection. Before for me.

MidnightMeltdown · 18/02/2023 15:01

Dentist told me to brush before. You need to remove the bacteria before you introduce food as that's when they do the damage.

gamerchick · 18/02/2023 15:02

You're supposed to brush before, because eating softens the enamel. You'd have to wait half and hour after eating to brush them. Who's got time for that on a morning?

JustRingJoeDuffy · 18/02/2023 15:02

My weekday morning routine is up, shower, dry, brush teeth, brush and blow dry hair, dress, go downstairs, take pre-prepped breakfast from fridge and eat it, wash up, put on coat and shoes, out the door.
This takes 30mins - there is no time for trips back up to the bathroom!
At the weekend its far more relaxed and breakfast is usually before shower, teeth, dress.

ChristmasFluff · 18/02/2023 15:03

Depends if you are having sex before or after breakfast 😉

AddUpToNothing · 18/02/2023 15:04

After breakfast. But it always at least 30 minutes after eating anyway.

Goldandpurplezebra · 18/02/2023 15:06

Deffo before. You need to brush off the acid that builds up over night. Dentists recommend brushing before.

I would hate to be sat at breakfast smelling everyone's morning breath!!

Tallulasdancingshoes · 18/02/2023 15:06

I don’t have breakfast until I get to work so I brush mine after my morning shower. Dh gets up and has breakfast straight away, then his shower so he does his after breakfast.

2bazookas · 18/02/2023 15:10

My dentists says, before breakfast.

ShinyMe · 18/02/2023 15:12

Wow, I must have missed something. I've never brushed my teeth in the morning. Only before bed (and sometimes before going out in an evening if it's special or I might be in close proximity to people, or just before I go to the dentist.)

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 18/02/2023 15:13

Before breakfast on dentist's advise

This.

I brush before.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 18/02/2023 15:26

Dentists advise first thing. Brushing after breakfast can cause issues as your mouth is acidic for an hour after food and brushing during this phase damages your enamel over time. So it is better to brush when you wake up or at least an hour after you've eaten breakfast.
