My doorbell just went off and someone was hammering the door, by the time I was out of bed it went again but when I got downstairs he was getting in car and driving off. Definitely don't know them, did get the reg and make of car.

I don't really understand the voting because both of those choices still mean YANBU obviously.

It's extremely likely he got the wrong address but that doesn't mean it wouldn't freak you out at this time of night.

Yes they don't make sense sorry, am freaking out! (And barricading the hall!)

I would be annoyed and probably would leave a light on but there could be a million and one reasons it happened so after a while I would just get back to normal

itswednesdayy · 18/02/2023 00:39

it doesn’t make sense to freak out once you’ve seen him leave in his car. He’s not nearby you although I can see how the noise etc could be worrying.

Maybe could be worth installing a doorbell camera and reviewing your home security?

HouseIsOnFire · 18/02/2023 00:41

I made the mistake of googling it and it was all about burglars casing places etc etc, think I freaked myself out >.<

SpringingIntoSpringAgain · 18/02/2023 00:43

You went down... intending to open the door??

itswednesdayy · 18/02/2023 00:44

Your local police probably have a live chat service you can use to report it. Although they might not be able to investigate much, as no crime has occurred. But if similar incidents happen again, your report will be useful

HouseIsOnFire · 18/02/2023 00:45

I went down to look through the window and scoop up my cat!

I thought maybe it might be a neighbour or a accident!

Jeez do not open the door . At all .

They do but that feels like wasting their time surely?

Googling what?

Yes it's definitely wasting their time.

Only do that if he comes back (and I'm sure he won't).

Lots of people get the wrong address including taxi drivers and takeaway deliverers.

Exactly this. There is no crime, no ASB, nothing.

Johnnysgirl · 18/02/2023 00:54

I'm sure it's all fine, but it must have been very unsettling.

TomatoSandwiches · 18/02/2023 00:56

Perhaps it's a case of mistaken address and someone left a food delivery outside your door?

HouseIsOnFire · 18/02/2023 00:57

Yeah am sure it is nothing, feeling a bit of a prat for getting so freaked out 😳 sorry and thanks all!

This happened to someone a few roads away from us. The young lady opened the door and three people burst in (one a woman) and they burgled her at knifepoint.

DixonD · 18/02/2023 00:57

What I’m trying to say is never open the door unless you know the person.

Cassie9032 · 18/02/2023 00:59

This would freak me out so I get it completely! Better being safe than sorry so don't feel silly OP

I'm sure it is nothing, but it's perfectly understandable to be thrown by it.

It's the one bad thing about living alone! Time to google dog breeds that get on with cats 🤣

Better safe than sorry. Talk to someone about this tomorrow, just in case this someone wasn't sizing up your house or ways/days to break in.

Happened to me.

OP, there are some security gadgets which play very realistic sounding dog barks!

Hope you can now settle down, with your cat, and relax.

Am pretty sure it was just a wrong address he'd got.

Could be a curry on your doorstep . . . .

Keema naan.

3 poppadoms and a selection of dips; including lime pickle.

Lamb rogan josh.

Garlic rice.

Bombay potatoes.

Sag aloo.

Be cold by now though.

Also, I feel like curry isn't a midnight snack? Or is that just me?
