To detest people who talk endlessly on their mobile phone on the train

My journey is currently being ruined by this woman, blethering on and on and on about her ‘co-parenting’ problems. I wish I had the courage to tell her to shut up because nobody cares. Blah blah blah.

I'm with you. I can't imagine being so unaware of my surroundings and those in it.

Quitelikeit · 17/02/2023 15:09

Well she isn’t talking to you and the person she is telling clearly cares…..

Get some earphones or put up and shut up is what I would recommend

Hairybaker · 17/02/2023 15:11

Can’t stand it! This is why remote working was a game charger for me and I’ll (hopefully) never have to commute again!

SleeplessInEngland · 17/02/2023 15:11

They're pieces of shit, but part of me can't help but be envious - to have such a lack of embarrassement is practically a superpower.

Ostryga · 17/02/2023 15:12

They should honestly be shot. There is nothing that winds me up more than someone driveling on on public transport.

Extra painful death if it is on loudspeaker. Gah.

DahliaMacNamara · 17/02/2023 15:13

I love a bit of earwigging, myself. If anyone who does this is reading, there's some nosey fucker like me listening to every word.

Greensleeves · 17/02/2023 15:13

YANBU. It's so very rude. It's worrying that so many apparently functional adults lack the most basic level of socialisation. I can't imagine being so utterly oblivious to the comfort of others.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/02/2023 15:14

my post has appeared twice - grrr - sorry - down to useless train Wi-Fi. Just a shame it’s not useless enough to cut her off.

"They're pieces of shit". "They honestly should be shot".

If you had to guess who was being described here how many guesses before you got to 'People talking on a train'?

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 17/02/2023 15:16

Have you ever watched Bob Mortimer's Train Guy sketches? So funny.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/02/2023 15:17

We’re all stuck here trying to make the best of it and instead have to listen to her ‘I’m on the train so the reception’s not good’ well yes, duh. Now it’s ‘hello, hello, hello, I’m on the train ….

and I don’t want headphones thanks very much.

I enjoy it when it's juicy stuff - co-parenting sounds good, relationship dramas are enjoyable, I've heard a couple of phone interviews which are good if you enjoy management speak. The worst is people video chatting with toddlers on the 'quiet carriage'.

REP22 · 17/02/2023 15:20

Awful. It really irritates me too. Especially when in general I choose to sit in the "quiet zone" and still it happens.

The absolute worst was on an occasion shortly after the 7/7 attacks. Seated directly behind me was someone whose firm had been contracted to clean up the affected underground lines. Bleated out loudly and at length were details that no-one should have had to or needed to hear.

There also used to be a regular on the commute who believed herself to be psychic and would give utterly bonkers "consultations" over the phone to all and sundry. They were so bizarre that other commuters and I would share glances and silent mirth. Still bloody annoying and selfish though. And in the quiet zone.

Hesma · 17/02/2023 15:20

That’s why I always sit in a quiet carriage

luckylavender · 17/02/2023 15:21

Detest is a bit strong

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/02/2023 15:21

She got off thank god. Back to my book. Can’t sit online posting because I need the Wi-Fi for my ticket.

Itchintobestitchin · 17/02/2023 15:22

I don't think it's any worse than being in the same carriage as people talking to each other. Both are a bit annoying if you're trying to work or read. Neither are prohibited.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/02/2023 15:22

Lucky lavender ‘Detest’ is not strong enough imho.

Totally stand by 'pieces of shit'. 'They honestly should be shot' is a tad strong though. 😲

You definitely talk on loudspeaker 😂

It’s a joke! I know people like to be chronically offended by everything but surely that is tiring.

Theopossumwasmeantforme · 17/02/2023 15:25

Also on the bus. They built some new houses on my route and the most annoyingly loud man bought one and uses the journey to ring everyone he manages.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/02/2023 15:25

itchin I disagree. There is something particularly difficult to screen out and annoying about a one sided phone conversation, and conversations between two people in person somehow feel like normal, meaningful exchanges - understandable - and not irritating.

OP posts:
Figmentofmyimagination · 17/02/2023 15:27

A one sided phone call is like the tinny sound from bad headphones. Just anti-social. No excuses.
