Interflora Valentines Day

AIBU to think Interflora (or any other delivery service) flowers for Valentines day is a cop out?

Absolutely zero effort involved in doing a few clicks on your phone/laptop.

A bunch picked up from a supermarket or florist would be 10x more thoughtful surely?

A bunch of tulips and I'm happy. Literally my absolute favourite flowers Smile

Tulips always remind me of my late Mother. I gave her some and she she loved them but found they always had floppy heads after a day. I told her to poke a pin through just below the head, in both directions, to create a capillary effect. When I called a few days later they were lovely and upright but Mum thought the pins looked silly, she'd put two crossed pins, like Scottish country dancing swords, in each one and left them there!

Sometimes people work away or live a fair distance away and sometimes they want to show that they're still thinking of them with flowers despite being miles away.

Clymene · 14/02/2023 17:48

Yes, unless someone shimmies up a ladder to your window with a rose clamped between their teeth, they don't love you

Bonus points if they got the right window.

rexythedinosaur · 14/02/2023 17:52

Buying flowers online is just as much effort to choose and pay than it is to go to a supermarket. (Also usually more expensive!)

harrassedmumto3 · 14/02/2023 17:52

@JudgeJ

Your lovely mum had taste Smile
I've heard this about tulips too; they're essentially greedy and a wee hole in the stem stops them sooking up the water too fast. Or something like that Grin
Wish I could do similar to myself! Blush

And if they've a bonus flower stuck between their arse cheeks.

😅

I've never been big on VD, but flowers from interflora is not no effort. You still have to choose, order, and pay. Much like you would anywhere else.

I don’t think anyone is a fan of VD surely?

<childish snigger>

We upgraded the flower delivery to wine ( to me ) and chocolates ( to boyfriend).

Everyone happy ( and slightly drunk)

Haha I said the same thing to my sister when telling her about this thread 😂

Flowers delivered is a real thrill for me!

iklboo · 14/02/2023 18:15

Interflora is more expensive than a supermarket flowers, high street florists are few & far between.

What do you expect the person to do - grow their own to show how 'devoted' they are? You don't honestly think they put any more thought / effort when they go to a supermarket or florist. They tend to go in, pick the first bouquet in price range, pay & leave.

Colourinsidethelines · 14/02/2023 18:42

I would be very happy with a flower delivery. I think that is thoughtful. They have thought of you and ordered you flowers. I got supermarket flowers and I’m very pleased with them as well!

JustTurned90 · 14/02/2023 19:02

I bloody loved my Interflora Valentine’s flowers today! Such a lovely gesture, and I wouldn’t have otherwise received flowers.

Laurawharton · 14/02/2023 19:20

At least you got something better then giving your gift and being told well I had no time when the internet exists 😅

Do you know your name is in that photo?

MamaMiaOhDear · 14/02/2023 20:47

Yes of course unless the sender grows the flowers themselves they're useless 🤣

I should have written "no thought" as opposed to no effort I think.

Also, to drip feed. It's my DP who sent the delivery. It's his go to for any special occasion. A click online and then he can put his feet up and not do or think of anything else, hence my feelings on the matter. He also moans every time he sees them that "oh they're small for how much they cost" 😂

I paid £8 delivery on mother's day one year to get flowers delivered. I answered the door & walked them through to my mum, should have saved myself the ££.
They were also shite & had been filled out with greenery, most of the flowers had died off within a 2 days, they cost me £50, I took them back & complained. Would have been better off flying up to tesco & buying them at half the price!

Nsky62 · 14/02/2023 21:06

My flowers to my family ( yes I live a far distance away) are done by mail, good discounts, no issues

What did you get for him?

OldSkoolLikeHappyShopper · 14/02/2023 21:22

My OH lives 5 hours away so it would be tricky for him to pick them up and drop them over.

I got him a card (obviously), a personalised photo mug with little ones photos, and a selection of his favourite biscuits to dip in his brew in the new mug.

Also bought ingredients for and baked brownies for dessert.

It’s the way many florists get rid of flowers that haven’t got long left. Wrap them in fancy brown paper and send with a card so the lucky recipient can bin them within a few days.
