Do you clean your bins?!

Inspired by the outsourcing thread.

I've never, ever cleaned my outside bins. Nor do I ever intend to. Am I slovenly?

Yabu - my bins are sparkling
Yanbu - they're outside. Who cares

Seems like we are one of few areas that still have weekly rubbish collection. Council don't provide Wheely bins though and bin men won't touch them if you have them, you have to put your bags in the street on collection day. We do have a wheelie bin (where else do you keep the general waste bin bags floor a week?!) and a standard black dustbin for recycling bags, but everything is bagged in the house, the bin isn't touched by anyone other than us and it doesn't go on the back of the lorry, so unless something splits it's clean inside. I do hose it out once or twice a year, but I don't know why people are getting maggots!!

It honestly wouldn’t occur to me to wash a bin that sits outside and is a receptacle for stuff that is going to landfill. Rinsing the recycling prevents any smells or filth in the first place.

Maybe if the bins were stored right beside a kitchen window or door, and I wanted to avoid any slight pongs in the summer, but besides that why?

There’s also the environmental impact of people using unnecessary extra plastic from wheelie bin liners, and all the chemicals from the sprays and powders to clean them.

@JennyDarlingRIP A master class in how to increase house prices in one easy statement - you announce you get weekly bin collections!
No! I am not jealous, not at all 🤣🤣

Pay a company once a month to clean ìt £2 50. Blue recycling bin normally stays clean.
