To think we are getting inferior products in the name of "environmentally friendly"

Just as the title says really. I do think it is very scary and sad for countries that have floods and fires and experience other extreme weather but is that enough reason for example, in this country, for a ban on plastic straws? Nobody I know even likes paper straws, I certainly don't. Does anyone else think that people might care more about this issue if products weren't changed for inferior versions without public consultation and people didn't get looked down upon or made to feel bad for not wanting to recycle?

I like paper straws.

OhMyBleedingHeart · 11/02/2023 19:06

Paper straws are fine and I hardly think plastic tat is much better quality.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 11/02/2023 19:07

Carry metal straws around with you?

MandaLynn · 11/02/2023 19:07

What legitimate reason is there for not wanting to recycle?

NoSquirrels · 11/02/2023 19:08

People should feel bad about not recycling. And consuming too much. And perpetuating bad habits and products that contribute to the climate emergency just because they can’t be arsed or find it a bit inconvenient.

It’s a climate emergency. ‘Feeling bad’ about ‘people in other countries’ but carrying on with your own convenience is not good enough.

NoSquirrels · 11/02/2023 19:08

And buy a reusable travel straw and take it out with you. Buy ones for your kids, too.

Missed this. Sorry but what? It's free and takes zero effort. Why do you want to cause more harm and waste?

Furrydogmum · 11/02/2023 19:09

🤣🤣🤣

chupachump · 11/02/2023 19:11

Oh, it's this poster again. I rarely remember usernames on here but this one I do!

ThisNameIsNotAvailable · 11/02/2023 19:13

You seem to be saying that not having plastic straws is more of a concern to you than the extremes of weather causing death and destruction to so many people and environments across the world. Surely I’ve misunderstood?

ItsTrueLou · 11/02/2023 19:15

It's not about 'not wanting to recycle' it is about being fobbed off with interior products Paper straws are a prime example, they are useless

Untitledsquatboulder · 11/02/2023 19:15

Do you need a straw? Is your mouth very, very small like your moral compass?

Heyahun · 11/02/2023 19:16

😂😂😂 my plastic straws are more important than trying to save the planet -
ok then

MereDintofPandiculation · 11/02/2023 19:17

I’m struggling to get my head round your argument. You seem to be saying we’d care more about climate change if we didn’t try to do anything about it.

And that you getting to use the products of your choice is far more important than the lives of people in far off lands.

Shesasuperfreak · 11/02/2023 19:18

My issue is more with companies offsetting the carbon for you.

Uber add a carbon charge and recently a cleaning company quote including carbon offsetting?!

EuripidesEumenides · 11/02/2023 19:19

There was a public consultation on the ban on single use plastics -

Thelondonone · 11/02/2023 19:19

No one needs a straw at all…. Just use a glass. You are a fool.

greysparkly · 11/02/2023 19:19

Recycling is no effort. Why wouldn't you?

I have reusable straws that dd bought ages ago - we have them in the car and just use them if we are out. They're great. You should get some.

DaveyJonesLocker · 11/02/2023 19:20

Why don't you want to recycle?
I'm not a fan of paper straws but I'm more not a fan of choking our oceans with plastic

bussteward · 11/02/2023 19:20

”How dare all those poor people in those other countries getting killed or displaced or starved half to death affect my enjoyment of a drink. As for recycling, I simply want to put things in the bin and not think about famine and wildfire and endangered species! Enough is enough: fuck them all.”

I need a straw for my McDonald's milk shake to be fair. But I use the ones dd got.

Danikm151 · 11/02/2023 19:20

Paper straws can’t even be recycled because of the coating on them. You also need about 3 to get through one drink!
i have a stash of plastic straws but don’t mind when there are bamboo straws 😄

ChilliBandit · 11/02/2023 19:20

How is there a recycling troll? Is there a troll for everything?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/02/2023 19:21

Straws were all paper not all that long ago - they were fine, and still are.

You get drunk quicker if you drink your Lambrini from a straw 😂
