To think we are getting inferior products in the name of "environmentally friendly"

Just as the title says really. I do think it is very scary and sad for countries that have floods and fires and experience other extreme weather but is that enough reason for example, in this country, for a ban on plastic straws? Nobody I know even likes paper straws, I certainly don't. Does anyone else think that people might care more about this issue if products weren't changed for inferior versions without public consultation and people didn't get looked down upon or made to feel bad for not wanting to recycle?

Omg trying to drink a McDonald’s milkshake through a fucking soggy paper straw gives me rage. I’m very happy to recycle but that alternative is not fit for purpose.

WiIson · 11/02/2023 19:55

It is revolting NeedAHoliday2021. They're not fit for purpose.

F4chrissakes · 11/02/2023 19:58

My husband has just pointed out that the paper straws of our youth were not just paper, they were waxed. What with we know not. Petrochemical stuff probably. But they didn't go soggy.

Why do you need a straw?

DarkDarkNight · 11/02/2023 19:58

Yes, it’s all just green washing. Fast fashion companies pretending they are environmentally friendly with their recycled polyester fabric (cheap and nasty) while continuing to vastly over-produce and push over-consumption.

Oh, it's this poster again. I rarely remember usernames on here but this one I do!

Haha! Same same! Trolling so much you are noticed!

LindorDoubleChoc · 11/02/2023 20:01

Oh this is a completely stupid goady thread, I don't know why people are taking the bait.

Headabovetheparakeet · 11/02/2023 20:03

What are your feelings about the plastic bag charge?

WiIson · 11/02/2023 20:06

You can still get plastic bags?

Crumpledstilstkin · 11/02/2023 20:06

I knew this would be about paper straws. They're such a bad example of what should be a fabulous thing for consumers and the environment. Design for repair, make stuff that lasts, don't make my kids straw disintegrate halfway through a drink on a carton you can't access without a straw.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 11/02/2023 20:09

@ThisNameIsNotAvailable I mean it’s fairly normal to have a straw for a milkshake but have you ever had a McDonald’s milkshake? They’re extremely thick ice cream based so sipping them isn’t something that works.

LindorDoubleChoc · 11/02/2023 20:14

Or don't have children's drinks in cartons? They didn't exist before the 1980s. No child died.

Headabovetheparakeet · 11/02/2023 20:18

WiIson · 11/02/2023 20:06

You can still get plastic bags?

That's why I used the word 'charge' not 'ban'

butterfliedtwo · 11/02/2023 20:19

The planet is dying. But won't somebody think of my need for straws...

You're a grown man. This is actually embarrassing for you.

DdraigGoch · 11/02/2023 20:26

Why do you need straws anyway? Are you four years old and do you still find blowing bubbles hilarious?

catsonahottinroof · 11/02/2023 20:34

Agree paper straws are disgusting, I also noticed in Mcdonalds today that they went in the same recycling as plastic lids etc, rather than with the paper cups, so not sure about their eco credentials. Suggestions: go back to the old days and have drinks in glasses with reuseable plastic/metal straws if eating in/glass bottles if taking away. Or give customers the option of buying a metal straw if taking away, with a discount if they bring their own straw.

Plus:

  • Poor service is due to Covid
  • High prices are due to Putin.............
PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 11/02/2023 20:41

Just drink it straight from the cup.

WiIson · 11/02/2023 20:43

That's why I used the word 'charge' not 'ban'

You mean the charge for them? They're better quality plastics bags now.

ChilliBandit · 11/02/2023 19:20

How is there a recycling troll? Is there a troll for everything?

No, they are a troll for something else. But you can use them again.

Whoatemysocks · 11/02/2023 21:02

What pisses me off is people standing where I want to walk, it’s really fucking rude. How dare they expect me to adapt my journey through life to accommodate theirs.

Scurryfunge12 · 11/02/2023 21:07

You’re actually as thick as sh*t and very self centred. I think you’re a troll, you must be, you post such nonsense all the time! Are you really this ignorant?

WiIson · 11/02/2023 21:19

Why on earth are you throwing abuse at people you don't even know? Bad day? .

kittensinthekitchen · 11/02/2023 21:19
