To say now is the time to apply for your passport

Applied for DD’s passport renewal on 24th Jan. Got a text on Thursday to say it was approved and was being printed.

And that includes my 5 day delay in sending off her old one (long story).

Very different story from early last summer when I was doing DS’s. Go do it now if you need one!

Yeah makes sense

ACynicalDad · 11/02/2023 08:07

Yep, I suspect it will get much worse from April/May. That said most people who didn’t do them during the pandemic would have caught up last year so I suspect it’s going to be more normal this year anyway.

AuntieMarys · 11/02/2023 08:08

Got mine back in 9 days last month, including change of name

Fakecrazy · 11/02/2023 08:08

My dc passports have been 2 weeks and nothing yet. Glad I've done it now.

Heartstopper · 11/02/2023 08:09

Straightforward adult renewal took 6 days last week. I was impressed.

Timetonamechangeithink · 11/02/2023 08:10

Extremely efficient at the moment and completely reachable on the phone too

Runnerduck34 · 11/02/2023 08:11

Yes mine was 5 days from applying to receiving super quick. Was very impressed with sevice.
Straightforward renewal.
I suspect they are back to normal application levels now after covid backlog.

notmaryberry · 11/02/2023 08:11

Yeah my DDs took 6 days last month. I was very relieved after last years stories.

Same. I've ordered three over the last six months and they've all been back in a fortnight (even the kid to adult ones which are meant to take longer).

Snarf23 · 11/02/2023 08:13

I did mine last summer and it got back speedy in about ten days maybe

my friend is waiting a child renewal one and it’s been three weeks, so it really does seem it’s the luck of the draw! She’s thinking it’s because prices are going up so everyone’s sent them off but it seems maybe not!

KickboxingWanker · 11/02/2023 08:14

It’s always the same this time of year I got my sons back in a week last year in Feb.
From March/April it starts getting really busy - although last year was particularly bad.

LlynTegid · 11/02/2023 08:17

Did the same last year at around the same time. Similar short time.

Nice to read that MN has people who can plan ahead.

Karwomannghia · 11/02/2023 08:17

glad Someone mentioned the child to adult thing- ds has turned 18 so does he need a new adult one or is there some sort of renewal as his is still in date?
also how easy is it to take your own photo or is it not worth it?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/02/2023 08:20

We’re going to send ds2’s for renewal as soon as we’re back from our half term break. It’s valid until October but that won’t be long enough for our summer trip to visit family so we’re going to lose some months in the hope of a quick and easy renewal.

Iwanttoquitthegym · 11/02/2023 08:20

First baby passport has taken 2 weeks. 5 year old renewal has been reflected because she isn’t looking at the camera…..she doesn’t have to be by their own rules 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's just a normal renewal. I always take the photos for our passports on my phone

Teacakexo · 11/02/2023 08:25

I sent my sons away 9 days ago and have had his new one already, really quick and easy which was a relief

Karwomannghia · 11/02/2023 08:28

Thank you, so I send 18yo ds as a renewal with an adult renewal fee?

Mercurial123 · 11/02/2023 08:37

It makes sense to apply in winter when fewer people travel. I'm overseas and got a new passport back in less than two weeks. Excellent service.

Yes, it directs you automatically to the right one on the website when you enter the date of birth. My 16 year old was also given an adult passport so I guess it's not 18.

roundtable · 11/02/2023 08:40

Yes we've just renewed 2 of ours and came back within a couple of weeks. Always better to do it a bit earlier than necessary in the winter so there's no pressure.

Tweetinat · 11/02/2023 08:49

Mine also renewed in 6 days last week. The only thing I noticed, is that they no longer add any unused months to the passport expiry. It probably is mentioned somewhere, but I didn't realise so I've now lost 5 months. think it's because passports for Europe can no longer be older than 10 years since Brexit. Still glad I renewed now as I couldn't take the risk of delays later on in the year, but thought I'd mention it.

Karwomannghia · 11/02/2023 08:51

Thanks @dew141 dd is 16 so that’s both changing then!

thinykinny87 · 11/02/2023 08:55

Just did my ds renewal. It took exactly a week. So glad it's done. All online no stress at all

Minkyscamp · 11/02/2023 08:57

Thanks for this prompt - I've been meaning to do my DD's for months so will get into it now.
