To be completely obsessed with Heartstopper

MrsRonaldWeasley · 02/02/2023 20:22

Please help me 🤣

I am a 46 year old (straight) woman and I have always had a tendency to become emotionally attached to books or films. I am a sucker for a love story and completely immerse myself in storylines. I have recently watched the Heartstopper series on Netflix and I literally cannot stop thinking about it 🤣 It is just such a sweet story and it has me longing for my teenage years. Please tell me I’m not alone! 🤣

Well you've convinced me to give it a go! Is it suitable for a nearly 14 year old girl (we've watched Never Have I Ever which talks about sex a lot!)

Moonopoly · 02/02/2023 20:29

I haven’t seen it but totally get what you mean about getting obsessed by books/films! I think I’ll give it a go!

SarahAndQuack · 02/02/2023 20:35

It's so lovely, isn't it?!

@Funkyslippers, it's very sweet - absolutely 14-year-old friendly. None of the characters are having sex; kissing is a big deal.

Yep, it's a really sweet story. I'm into it more than my 15 year old & I'm 55!
You should also try Young Royals on Netflix too.

ShittyPeasantsFromHampshire · 02/02/2023 20:38

It's very sweet but I think I forgot to finish watching the series. I must go back to it.

The woman who wrote the series must be making serious £££ now. Good for her. I know one 12 year old girl, who's a fan of the books, who was most annoyed that the TV series took some liberties with the story! Grin

MrsRonaldWeasley · 02/02/2023 20:47

@Funkyslippers yes it is absolutely suitable for a nearly 14 year old. There is no mention of sex. It’s all very sweet and innocent and as @SarahAndQuack said, holding hands kissing is a big deal. I highly recommend watching it! There is some swearing but that has been toned down quite a lot from the book (presumably to be able to give it a 12 rating).

So glad it’s not just me 🙈 I’ll have a look at Young Royals… thanks 😊

It’s beautifully refreshing in it’s
innocence and sweetness.
My mum (in her 60s) and I both love it.

Funkyslippers · 02/02/2023 21:00

Episode 1 down. Very sweet. And Olivia Colman's in it too so it can't be bad 😊

SellFridges · 02/02/2023 21:01

DD was full on obsessed with it last year when she was in Y6. Almost all of her mates were as well. I enjoyed it so much I binged it in a day and that’s not really my style.

MrsHughesPinny · 02/02/2023 21:06

I get a bit obsessed with books/series too. There’s a serious lack of romance in my life so it’s definitely a replacement.

My latest obsession has been Outlander. It is definitely NOT suitable for 14 year olds… 😂

Fleur405 · 02/02/2023 21:08

I just finished it last night and am really sad - it was such a lovely series.

SunnySnowdrop · 02/02/2023 21:11

You are not alone! I think I've watched it 7 times now

They're making a second series

ItsCalledAConversation · 02/02/2023 21:13

Haven’t watched it but my 9 year old DD has read the first 2 books. I skimmed them before she read them and it looks like a very sweet and realistic story.

pokey75 · 02/02/2023 21:15

Such a lovely series, just walked past the tv and my 16 year old is watching it again 😊

LawksaMercyMissus · 02/02/2023 21:26

Loved it, also Sex Education

I love that you have started watching it straight away 😍🤣

You are not alone! I love it! Watched many times etc.

UthredofBattenberg · 02/02/2023 21:40

It is so lovely. Nick is absolutely the sweetest.

It just gives the warm fuzzy feeling that makes you go "awwwww"

And also getting slightly annoyed at Charlie for apologising all the time 😆

roundaboutway · 02/02/2023 21:43

It's lovely isn't it. I really loved it!!! Totally adorable!

golddustwomen · 02/02/2023 21:53

Loved it!! Can't wait for series 2 Grin

IheartNiles · 02/02/2023 22:46

I watched it 4 times, I’m straight, happily married and older than you.

it invokes a wistfulness. The teenage love we all desired. Takes you right back to all the longing and crushes.

Mapletreelane · 02/02/2023 22:56

I watched it with DD13. Made us both cry. She was very obsessed for a while! I wasn't as obsessed but did think it was one of the most pure and beautiful shows I've ever seen.

downtonupton · 02/02/2023 23:03

DS, 14 at the time, appeared in the front room in floods of tears demanding hugs because "I just finished Heartstopper, it was amazing"

I thought I ought to watch it after that - I did and I loved it too.
