To not know what to get! 8 year old birthday

DD is 8 soon and when asked what she wants she doesn’t know. I’ve got no idea! She doesn’t want an experience and already has a tablet that she loves. She’s quite a happy soul and is happy with whatever she gets but I’m stuck. She likes arty kits and being on her tablet. What has your eight year old loved? X

All the board games (Forbidden Island and Ticket to Ride were the biggest hits).

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/01/2023 18:53

Books

Mine is hyperactive so loves anything that involves moving - bike, scooter, skateboard, roller skates

To be honest last Christmas he didnt get many toys: a game for his switch and some large military vehicles that he'd seen. And he didn't mind as he already has everything he wants.

Even though she says she doesn't want an experience you could take her on one with a friend maybe? Theme park, crafts workshop, cooking lesson....

Random thing my 8 year old LOVED at Christmas- a new cover for his tablet as his previous one was a babyish one to prevent breakages if dropped.

InvincibleInvisibility · 28/01/2023 18:54

How about clothes? My 8 year old loves choosing his clothes and trainers (my 11 year old couldn't care less at that age...)

Keyboard (with stand, stool and headphones). It's coming into its own as dd grows. We got a proper sized one so it will last .

MissMaple82 · 28/01/2023 19:06

Money

Heli1copter · 28/01/2023 19:08

DD got an Oodie, glitter tattoo set, reading books, a remote control car, some bath bombs and a Magic Mixies toy set. She asked for surprises and seemed pretty happy with what she got

PonyPatter44 · 28/01/2023 19:08

Craft set (one of the big fancy ones) and a big magnifying glass.

JustDrama · 28/01/2023 19:13

My DD 8 wanted a 3D pen at Christmas. She didn't actually get it, maybe for her birthday.

biddyboo · 28/01/2023 19:15

At that age my dd loved lego dots.

Parker231 · 28/01/2023 19:18

Lego sets - once they get to eight they get interested in the more complex sets with motors and gears. From memory I think there is one of a beach buggy which DD loved.

angelopal · 28/01/2023 19:23

Oodie, roller skates, 3d pen, scratch art, lego, squishmallow are things my DD8 loves.

What about getting her ears pierced.

Pompom12 · 28/01/2023 19:29

My DD 8 has asked for Heelys and a Fitbit

Tiredforfive45 · 28/01/2023 19:40

Oodie (B and M version), one of those scooters with 2 feet bits, Lego dots and an instax camera were all popular with my 8 year old at Christmas.

Cravingcake · 28/01/2023 19:57

My DD didn’t know what she wanted at that age so we gave her a shopping spree - basically I took her to the mall (about half hr drive away so not normal popping into town) & we went to her favourite shops & I basically said yes to all the things that would normally be no or maybe - build a bear, lush bath bombs, Claire’s accessories & she chose herself a new outfit in H&M. Grandparents gave her some cash in a card as well so she could spend a bit more.

reelcat · 28/01/2023 20:40

Decent dual tip alcohol markers and nice stationary eg a personalised notebook or diary

Prettybutdumb · 28/01/2023 21:00

Half of my daughter’s class got airup water bottles with plenty of flavours for Christmas.

Abitofalark · 28/01/2023 21:03

What about a kaleidoscope or telescope? A search brought up this site which looks interesting as there is a variety, including miniatures as keyrings or necklaces. www.handmadekaleidoscopes.com/
Note: I have no knowledge or experience of this company. Searches usually seem to bring up mostly American ones. I have also seen some lovely telescopes online.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/01/2023 21:05

A Nerf and some cans for target practice.

getreadyy · 28/01/2023 21:05

Scrawl box art subscription
Oodie
Grow your own kits
Mine like a greggs voucher 😅

Theredtoyphone · 28/01/2023 21:09

Those Air Up bottles seem to be quite popular.

My son likes cool pens etc from Smiggle which were a hit at Christmas.

Credit to buy games/robux/minecraft stuff on the tablet.

Some kind of animal sponsorship where she sees it grow up.

An experience/activity with a friend

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 28/01/2023 21:19

My 8 yo likes Our Generation/American Girl dolls and accessories, science craft kits like building a volcano or growing crystals, anything with unicorns or rainbows, stationary and Lego.

Bigger stuff, this year she wants a keyboard, a new bike because she's had a growth spurt and her 20" wheel one is too small, heely wheel shoe things. She won't get all 3 of these for her birthday but we'll pick the one she is most keen on nearer the time.

SkankingWombat · 28/01/2023 21:33

I have an 8.5yo DD who isn't hugely into toys (never has been with a few exceptions). Things that she currently likes/were a hit at Xmas:
Fancy gel pens and highlighters
Science kits
Books - currently reading Varjak Paw, which she got for Xmas
Mini perfumes
'Grown up' accessories like floaty scarves
Telescope
New kit for her sport
Minecraft
Anything Harry Potter
Colour changing LED strips for her bedroom
Fidget cube
Ceiling projector
Fimo/polymer clay

OllytheCollie · 28/01/2023 21:54

We just had this issue with a niece who has everything already at Christmas - we got one of those big wooden sets of fancy drawing pencils and colouring pencils with a sketchbook in there too. She was v pleased with it. Otherwise stinky bath bombs from Lush, craft kits, books, hair accessories, unusual socks ( yes really), fairy lights for her bedroom all went down well with her.

Oysterbabe · 28/01/2023 21:57

Roller skates.
Squishmallow
Nail varnish

Oysterbabe · 28/01/2023 21:59

We got DD a couple of different how to draw books and she loves them.
