7 weeks and counting waiting for hospital gynae appointment..

I know this is just a part of bigger NHS problems, but it's a frustrating wait, having waited 7 weeks and not even having an appointment date yet 😩 I had three months of bleeding (during which I got the referral to colposcopy), which then stopped for 3 weeks but started again and I am currently on day 12 of my 'period'. Most days aren't that heavy and the GP thinks its just due to a cervical erosion but it's very tiresome, especially as I am wanting to TTC

I've been waiting 4 months so far. Been told it could be up to 9 months.

throwaway201809 · 25/01/2023 13:20

I’ve been having terrible period issues that have come out of nowhere. My GP said NHS gynaecologist waiting lists are up to a year round here - it’s crazy! Having to go private as I just can’t go on like this - but it’s so expensive :(

emmathedilemma · 25/01/2023 13:30

oh i hear you! I waited about 16 weeks for one before covid hit so goodness knows what it is now! Then it was another 6 month wait for a hysteroscopy before you even got a treatment option, which no doubt had another equally long wait. I was lucky that i have private medical cover through work so used that eventually.

TheSoapyFrog · 25/01/2023 13:32

I waited nearly a year for my appointment. Was supposed to be about 3 or 4 months, but they had a 'backlog from covid' still.

ClemFandango1 · 25/01/2023 13:34

I had a 'period' that wouldn't end - I went for acupuncture for it and within 3 sessions that sorted it.

Sleepwouldbenicesometimes · 25/01/2023 13:52

Is this your initial appointment? The waits only get longer from here. I'm 3 years into waiting for a uterine artery embolization. I got a letter this week from the radiologist to discuss the procedure so I assume it will take place this year some time but who knows.

Gynae lists are horrendous! I hope you're not waiting too much longer!

yestheyhavethesamedad · 25/01/2023 14:13

I waited almost 2 year to get an appointment to get a cervical polyp looked at , i was lucky it was a basic one that could be removed there and then , or else would have to then went on the surgery waiting list , womans health is completely neglected at the moment

JusteanBiscuits · 25/01/2023 14:46

I remember waiting two years 20 years ago for investigations into constant bleeding. Their answer was "just go on the pill permanently". Found out 15 years later I have a minor bleeding disorder that was causing it.

Ijustwantsleep · 25/01/2023 15:07

I've been on.the waiting list over 2 years and not had an appointment

Teddyhasgonetobed · 25/01/2023 15:08

2.5 years and I'm still waiting for my consultation with gynaecology. Currently on transamic acid and Ferritin. I think I've got more hope of going through menopause than being seen. Side effects of anemia and endocrinology related aspects are now being explored but it just seems like a can is being kicked down the road and they are just treating symptoms not the cause. I hope you get seen quickly but I suspect non critical illness are being sidelined in the nhs.

emmathedilemma · 25/01/2023 15:14

I think that’s the frustrating thing @Teddyhasgonetobed most women have already been through years of back n forth to GPs and trying to manage their symptoms before they even get referred to gynae and to then find you’ve got years more to wait is heartbreaking.

PurBal · 25/01/2023 15:18

Like others… referral went in on 16 July 2021 and I was seen on 29 December 2022. So 18 months.

Pinkywoo · 25/01/2023 15:18

Do you have another hospital you can get to? I was told it would be a 6 month wait to see a gynae consultant and then at least the same again for surgery at my local hospital. I asked to be referred to the hospital an hours drive away and was seen 6 weeks later, and had surgery a couple of months after that.

exitlight · 25/01/2023 15:36

Ultrasound showed a mass in my uterus in early November 2022, I’m still waiting for my appointment to be told what this is / what the plan is.
I called to find out where I was on the list for an OP appt and was told they were currently booking patients referred in June 2022 (so there’s no chance of an appt anytime soon)
I’m on the cancellation list but am just keeping fingers crossed and debating whether it’s worth buying shares in tampax/bodyform…

As476 · 25/01/2023 15:40

I waited 54 weeks for my appointment last year. My appointment went along these lines “so you’re still having cyst pain, that’s a shame. Go back to your gp if it gets worse” 🙄

MenaiMna · 25/01/2023 16:04

I'm in the gynae waiting room right now, just been told they're an hour behind so feeling like they're doing pretty well today. But I asked for this appointment September 2021.

BodyShapeWoes · 25/01/2023 16:07

Took me 7 years to get treatment…

I think I waited over 18 months for my first gyne appointment then passed from pillar to post.

I said to my male gyne that if I was a man who hadn’t stopped bleeding for 44 days (yes 44 days!!) I would have been treated within a month as a man couldn’t deal with all the pain/blood loss etc

Greenqueen40 · 25/01/2023 16:58

7 weeks?? It's over a year in my trust for a general gynae clinic appt and 18 months for endo clinic. You will need to be a little more patient I'm afraid!

LadyB49 · 25/01/2023 17:02

I paid privately and still had to wait 4 months. However appointment was excellent. I had an internal scan. Received a prescription which worked. £450.

Tootsey11 · 25/01/2023 17:14

7 weeks is nothing. It's 2.5 years here.

SmoochyKiss · 25/01/2023 17:19

7 weeks is absolutely nothing these days. I was referred in October 2020 (told then the waiting list was 6 months) have a significant gynae history and this is a reoccurring problem which has required 2 previous emergency surgeries. Despite all this and the high possibility of it turning into another emergency...I am still waiting on an appointment!

Bagofmaltesers · 25/01/2023 17:19

Almost 2 years after a referral, I phoned the outpatients department to see whether I might expect an appointment soon. I was told that I still had a bit of a wait as the current waiting times for gynae referral in my area were 192 weeks. At that point I booked a private appointment.

FortyFacedFuckers · 25/01/2023 17:25

Sorry OP but I have been waiting since April 21 no appointment yet

Dogsarebetterthanhumans · 25/01/2023 17:36

I think you’re going to have to wait a bit longer OP as the waiting lists are more like years long rather than weeks.
There will be people on those lists in terrible constant pain with gynae issues so whilst it’s obviously not great to have the bleeding that you are having, you are relatively speaking in a better position than some.

I hope it gets resolved for you.

Shakirasma · 25/01/2023 17:43

My friends was told October 2024 was the approximate waiting list time. Fortunately she was able to scrape enough money to go private. I genuinely think she would not be with us by October 2024 if she had to suffer that long.
