Are original oodies worth it or are the cheaper versions just as good?

Just that really 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are they warmer? Is the extra cost justified? …

They feel more premium, the fabrics are much softer than the cheaper versions. They have a sale on atm so are a lot cheaper right now.

Gymtok · 21/01/2023 00:07

Definitely. They're so much thicker and better quality.

Cheerfulcharlie · 21/01/2023 00:09

There’s a lot of variance in the non original ones! Look for ones with the Sherpa lining - but all the way through (not just in the hood). I found some on Amazon which were very almost as good as an original oodie. Might have been called ‘City Comfort’ or something like that.

Ciaonow · 21/01/2023 00:09

I find them a lot warmer

MingeofDeath · 21/01/2023 00:11

John Lewis sell oodie knock offs for half the price of an oodie. Mine is lovely and thick and warm.

Thatboymum · 21/01/2023 00:13

I have an oodie but also a primark snuggie and honestly I hands down preffer my primark one , it’s warm big but lightweight , the oodie is massive so gets in the way, but it’s also ridiculously heavy so I rarely use it

pearlearringgirl · 21/01/2023 00:13

Hmm sounds like the original might be best then… I do like the patterns. I might see if I can find one on eBay first 🤔

I was sent a real oodie from a relative overseas. I can't compare, as don't have a knock off brand. It depends what temp your house is and what conditions you are living in whether you need a genuine one?

We've been renovating and living in a static caravan in the garden. I WFH and would wear the oodie during the day as it was SO cold. Before CHristmas, I had ice on the inside of the windows and on the caravan ceiling!

This week we moved into the heated house! OMG- even if I just wore the oodie and nothing else- I'd be roasting hot. Its only 18'- but boiling compare to the caravan! IF you are living in a caravan then yes, get a real one. IF you have some form of insulation and a regular house- you might find it too hot.

Oh the house is freezing … Can’t afford luxuries like central heating anymore 😭

Ooh there’s a few on eBay… Seen one that’s looks new and it has this cute love heart sweets pattern, was originally looking for the avacado but this one looks cute…

On another note, I’m so pissed at the state of the rising costs of living in this country and that so many of us are existing in cold homes.

I can't compare to any other brand but know I love my oodie, so warm and cosy, feels quite heavy and good quality.
I never thought I'd like it this much tbh.

OhFFS! · 21/01/2023 00:36

We have both original Oodies and some cheaper ones. Honestly, the Oodies are so much better. I ended up buying DH a proper one for Xmas and he's hardly taken it off. He complains now when it's in the wash and he has to where the cheaper one

OhFFS! · 21/01/2023 00:36

Bloody autocorrect. 'wear'

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/01/2023 00:39

Got oodies for my kids and they seem to really like them. They seem very warm and cosy.

I considered getting knock offs but I read everywhere they weren’t usually as good

OvaHere · 21/01/2023 00:40

Pro's and con's to both.

Ages ago I bought my teens cheap Groupon knock offs for 20 quid. They've lasted well but are more like a baggy sweatshirt in terms of length and thickness. I think sometimes they prefer these ones when it's not really cold because they are less bulky.

Just before xmas I bought them the proper Oodies. They're very large, long, luxurious and warmer but restrict movement more. Great for lounging and watching TV but if you wanted to move around and do stuff you'll probably end up taking it off.

Yeah this is what I was wondering, sometimes you just end up throwing good money to bad by looking for cheaper alternatives

I prefer my next one to the oodie.

mondaymondaynogoodforme · 21/01/2023 00:48

My two DCs and I have original ones. We love them. They are really really warm and are perfect for winter. It won't be something i use year round as it'll become too hot. But it's been fantastic so far this winter both when I'm WFH and just lounging on the sofa.
I ummed and ahh-ed for a while as they aren't cheap, but knew I'd regret it if I got another brand that wasn't as warm.

CountZacular · 21/01/2023 00:53

I have a kudd.ly which is practically the same as an oodie and it’s very warm, reallly big with a huge hood and washes really well. I also have a cheaper primark one which is thinner - more like a sherpa hooded top than an hooded blanket.

DS is little so I bought him a Next one and again, much thinner (though very soft). Go for a Oodie or Kudd.ly if you want to keep warm!

Bobbi730 · 21/01/2023 01:02

We all have fake Oodies. I tried my friend's one on and it's a bit heavy and cumbersome. Ours are thick and warm but also have elastic at the wrists so your hands can be free. Prefer the fakes.

I thought the originals had elastic at the wrists too?

We love our OODIES (the real ones) not tried a pretend one so can't comment on them
They wash beautifully too and are so warm and cuddly 🥰

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 21/01/2023 01:26

Yes the real ones do have elastic cuffs at the wrists

SUBisYodrethwhenLarping · 21/01/2023 01:30

We wash ours inside out and they are so soft and cuddly even after over a year (we had them for Christmas last year 2021)
