Are original oodies worth it or are the cheaper versions just as good?

Just that really 🤷🏼‍♀️

Are they warmer? Is the extra cost justified? …

I just bought my second oodie as I hated when it was in the wash (and they take a while to dry).

I haven't tried any of the knockoffs but find the heaviness and bulk of the original oodie relaxes me.

ConsuelaHammock · 21/01/2023 01:55

We have a primark one , an oodie and a couple of kuddly. The primark one is ok but much lighter then the others . There’s not much difference between the oodie and the kuddly. There are often good deals on the kuddly ones . I got 4 for 99 just before Xmas .

ConsuelaHammock · 21/01/2023 01:56

*£99

cloverleafy · 21/01/2023 07:44

No Oodies here, but we have Comfy (from Costco) and Kudly ones. They're fab and review very well alongside Oodies.

We did try one Amazon one (Sienna?) and the difference was really obvious. Much thinner, less soft, poorer quality stitching . It went back.

MummyTo2GorgeousMunchkins · 21/01/2023 07:56

Can’t comment on Oodies but my two kids have one from Dunelm and love them. They keep them warm and were in £16 each (though I think they’ve gone up to £18 now).

MingeofDeath · 21/01/2023 00:11

John Lewis sell oodie knock offs for half the price of an oodie. Mine is lovely and thick and warm.

I've got the John Lewis one too and love it.

Didimum · 21/01/2023 08:06

I have a hugg & snugg one. It’s identical to an oodie, only the front pocket is bigger. My friend and sister have oodies and we have compared them a lot. It was £25 from a local shop, but they sell the brand on Amazon.

NotPennysBoat · 21/01/2023 08:08

The John Lewis Hugeez ones are just as good as Oodies and a fair bit cheaper.

LemonLimeWater · 21/01/2023 08:15

My dcs have worn the original ones evey day since they got them at Xmas. They obviously love them, dc2 even sleeps in hers sometimes.

They are refusing to let me wash them, as they heard they lose their fluffiness. Glad to hear that's not true as they are getting washed tomorrow.

Choice4567 · 21/01/2023 08:19

@Albgo just had a quick look at there are some real OODIES on Vinted for around £35

tabulahrasa · 21/01/2023 08:21

I’ve got 2 different knock off ones, my sister has a real one... I examined it, couldn’t find anything to justify the price difference for the real one tbh.

AnotherEmma · 21/01/2023 08:21

I have a Silentnight Snugsie - it's good quality and very warm. Just had a quick Google and the navy colour is £25 on Amazon. I wouldn't pay loads more for an Oodie.

FTHC · 21/01/2023 08:24

Ionly have an original but it's amazing and keeps me warm during the day so I don't have to put the heating on

hattie43 · 21/01/2023 08:25

I have four , two Oodies and two fake Oodies . IME the genuine Oodies are far better quality , thicker and come through the wash better, yes they take longer to dry but don't have the pulled threads of the cheaper ones .
An expensive outlay but definitely worth it .

Roundabout78 · 21/01/2023 08:39

I have a fake one-it’s Sherpa lined all the way through, so thick and gorgeous. Has cuffed wrists too. Every bit as good as the original. My husband, on the other hand, has a fake one and it’s essentially a big fleece hoody. Now were near and warm and cosy as mine. So it seems it’s hit and miss with the dupes.

WordtoYoMumma · 21/01/2023 08:39

Oodie every time. SO worth the money. I WFH 3 days a week and can't afford to put the heating on so my house is around 13/14 degrees during the day. I think I'd die without my Oodie!

I have a fake one too and I am still cold in it.

pearlearringgirl · 21/01/2023 00:13

Hmm sounds like the original might be best then… I do like the patterns. I might see if I can find one on eBay first 🤔

It was the pictures that put me off original Oodies! 😂 I bought a Kudd.ly (as recommended by someone on MN). It’s cheaper than an Oodie but still not cheap. It’s very thick and warm.

Wash them inside out on a gentle wash then I air dry mine for a bit (laid out flat on the airer) then tumble mine but my grown up DS puts his straight in tumble drier

We both do it all inside out, so they remain fluffy 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

Mouse82 · 21/01/2023 08:48

Have 3 oodies and 3 of their sleep shirts and would never go back.

MaskedFan · 21/01/2023 08:56

We have oodies from oodie and one I got from 5poundstuff as recommended on the xmas bargain thread. I was curious as wasn't happy with the oodies I had purchased from oodie direct. I 100% recommend 5poundstuff, I'm not convinced they are real but they are so very similar, unless you compare up close you wouldn't know the differences. They are around £17

Afoggyplace · 21/01/2023 09:04

If I’m sitting still in my house (no heating on at the minute)then my original oodie is a dream. Especially at night watching tv. If I need to move about/hoover/tidy then it’s instantly way too hot! I’m tempted to buy a cheaper, thinner version at the minute so that I have the choice.

Intemperatefatty · 21/01/2023 09:17

We all have Comfys from Costco (www.costco.co.uk/Jewellery-Accessories-Clothing/Clothing/The-Comfy-Original-Wearable-Blanket-in-5-Colours/p/1281486). They are soft, fluffy, well made and super warm. It’s been a god send working from home. Even though I’m one of those people that is always cold, it’s too warm for me at anything above 15 degrees.

My sister has an original Oodie but bought Comfys for her DC this Christmas as she said she couldn’t tell the difference. I have felt the ones in Primark and a friend got one off Amazon (think it was the sienna?) and they do feel thinner and less soft than my Comfy.

DashboardConfessional · 21/01/2023 09:19

Highly recommend a Kud.ly but they're basically the same price as Oodies.
