Would you allow your child out of school for a wedding?

My sister has just given us her wedding date which is on a Monday.
I'll of course be attending however my son will be in school.

Would you think it's unacceptable to keep him off school to attend? It's about an hour and a half away so I can't really nip out after the wedding to get him and bring him back.

I asked his dad (we are no longer together) and he said no, I'm being unreasonable.

YABU- kids shouldn't miss school for an aunties wedding

YANBU - he should attend

Soubriquet · 20/01/2023 21:43

If he wanted to attend then yes take him

RewildingAmbridge · 20/01/2023 21:44

How old is he? 16/18 and the wedding is mid GCSE/A level season I wouldn't, anything else I probably would

BeautifulDragon · 20/01/2023 21:44

Of course!

Mydogatemypurse · 20/01/2023 21:45

Id take him

Takingabreakagain · 20/01/2023 21:45

YANBU a close relatives wedding is an acceptable reason to be off school. It's a one off situation

gjkufbb · 20/01/2023 21:46

He is 7 btw! Thanks everyone

Thinkbiglittleone · 20/01/2023 21:47

Our DSs headmaster was absolutely fine with out DS missing the afternoon for his cousins wedding.

Laiste · 20/01/2023 21:47

YANBU

desperadodogface · 20/01/2023 21:48

Immediate family weddings fine. Your second cousin twice removed...

Samcro · 20/01/2023 21:49

At 7 I would take him

yousmellnice · 20/01/2023 21:52

Does his dad have custody Sunday night hrough to Monday night

underneaththeash · 20/01/2023 21:52

At 7 yes.

TeeBee · 20/01/2023 21:53

Let him take the day. It won't affect his A levels.

Careeradvice123 · 20/01/2023 21:54

Yes take him out. I took mine out to travel for my brothers.

StonwEd · 20/01/2023 21:55

It's a non problem, he'll have a lovely time 😊

At 7 it's fine to miss school for a wedding.

Abraxan · 20/01/2023 22:08

Of course it's fine for a 7y to miss a day for a family wedding.

Yes, school might not always be able to authorise it but that's just a technicality. Most won't really care if he misses a day. In my Lea you wouldn't be fined for one day either.

Dacadactyl · 20/01/2023 22:11

It's totally fine.

WandaWonder · 20/01/2023 22:14

Does he want to go?

PugInTheHouse · 20/01/2023 22:16

Of course it is fine at 7. My DS is in Y10 and I took him out for the day, the school authorised it also. DS1 was a couple of weeks into college so he didn't come as he's only there 2.5 days a week so difficult to miss.

FifiRebel · 20/01/2023 22:19

I took my son out of school for his godmother's wedding in Germany (so needed 3 days off) and it was an authorised absence.
