Pringles in the packed lunch

Pennecrayon · 18/01/2023 11:02

This feels like an odd question but I wanted to ask here in case I am missing something. We have a few tubes of Pringles left over from Christmas and I've been putting a few in a Tupperware for DS's packed lunch. He's 7.

Last night, I got a WhatsApp from a parent who I don't know very well to ask me if I would stop putting Pringles in DS's packed lunch because it's making her son jealous. I was a bit taken aback and I didn't respond.

I think I'm entitled to put whatever I want in my DS's lunchbox (within the rules) and that's what I want to tell her. We're new to the school this year though so I don't want to upset anyone and cause dramas.

AIBU?

Send her a snowflake emoji.

Lidl and Aldi both sell knock off Pringles. And sushi for that matter if you’re ever looking for some ☺️

Ooh, might seek out the knock off Pringles - although not very cost effective if I eat a whole tube in one go "because they're cheaper" 😂

FashionDoggy · 18/01/2023 11:31

Give your child extra Pringles tomorrow as an extra treat!

I'd also reply telling her to get a grip!

HolyZarquonsSingingSeals · 18/01/2023 11:32

Tell her you are sorry to hear this, jealousy is a mortal sin and you will pray for her son.

Emmamoo89 · 18/01/2023 11:32

She's being ridiculous. Ignore her and keep putting them in the packed lunch

She's going to have a hard time shielding her little darling from all the jealousy he's going to experience in life if he can't even cope with another kid getting crisps in their packed lunch.

Absolutely! My best pal in primary school had a chocolate biscuit (the good 1980s ones, Trio, Club, United etc) in her lunch everyday. I rarely did. Of course I was jealous but it was a good lesson in not always being to have what you want. I don't think it's caused me any lasting damage.

Applecottagetree · 18/01/2023 11:33

She's mad! That logic could apply to every food type until parents are only allowed to feed their kids whatever it is she feeds hers. Extra pringles tomorrow OP

SalviaOfficinalis · 18/01/2023 11:33

😂I’m looking out for the mn thread of IABU to ask school mum to stop giving her DS Pringles because it’s making my DS jealous.

Lots of people saying her DS doesn’t get Pringles because they’re expensive, but it could just be that she doesn’t give him “unhealthy” snacks.

Either way, it’s not OP’s problem. What did the full message say OP?

MissWings · 18/01/2023 11:33

Buy him one of these containers, they’re even more fancy 😜.

Go one better and get him one of those Pringle tubs. I always wanted one!

SalviaOfficinalis · 18/01/2023 11:34

I was always so jealous of those Pringles tubs!

i use to love my one of these 😂 Pringles branded, grey and sparkled 😂

BevMarsh · 18/01/2023 11:35

They don't go against the lunchbox policy therefore I'd continue the Pringles.
I'd not lower myself to respond to the woman.

Nah, they don’t hold enough Pringles. Wonder if they supersize them now.

ClubhouseGift · 18/01/2023 11:36

YANBU. Her kid will have to learn other people will have things he wants but cannot have. Can’t hide everything from him and others shouldn’t miss out because he isn’t allowed them.

Maryquitecontrary55 · 18/01/2023 11:36

What a weirdo! Keep doing it and ignore.

My first thought? Buy more Pringles.

Yes, and change your WhatsApp profile picture.

Sparklysunshine · 18/01/2023 11:28

Pringles would now become a must have packed lunch item for my child ,,,,
I would also consider changing my WhatsApp profile pic to a single Pringle , perhaps with a face . Primark sold Pringles T-shirts at some stage too, hmmmm too far ?????

I was about to respond with exactly this Grin

She sounds a bit nuts OP! Any chance she could be joking, and trying to start up conversation?!

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 18/01/2023 11:37

‘I thought long and hard about your request. Ultimately, I am responsible for my child’s diet and he’s enjoying the Pringles in his lunch so I will be continuing to give them to him when we have them’

And that would be my last word on it - I wouldn’t reply again.

Sleepwalkingintothewall · 18/01/2023 11:38

I'm petty so would escalate it with something even more desirable. A cheese string perhaps? Some twiglets?

Roundaboot · 18/01/2023 11:38

You could always send back an ambiguous, slight pass-agg emoji like a 🙂or thumbs up

thisplaceisweird · 18/01/2023 11:39

"No. Lunchbox jealousy is all part of growing up I'm afraid!"

thisplaceisweird · 18/01/2023 11:39

Send him in with a full size Dominos pizza next week.

RitaBonita · 18/01/2023 11:39

So wouldn’t you normally send a kid to school with Pringles? 🤔 Your post sounds almost apologetic about it @Pennecrayon with the explanation that they they were left over. I’d tell her I’d had a skip full delivered on the front lawn & to tell jealous boy to come around & dig right in.

Goinglocodowninsainsburyslocal · 18/01/2023 11:40

The bat shittery of this has made my day. Imagine sending that 😂
