Pringles in the packed lunch

This feels like an odd question but I wanted to ask here in case I am missing something. We have a few tubes of Pringles left over from Christmas and I've been putting a few in a Tupperware for DS's packed lunch. He's 7.

Last night, I got a WhatsApp from a parent who I don't know very well to ask me if I would stop putting Pringles in DS's packed lunch because it's making her son jealous. I was a bit taken aback and I didn't respond.

I think I'm entitled to put whatever I want in my DS's lunchbox (within the rules) and that's what I want to tell her. We're new to the school this year though so I don't want to upset anyone and cause dramas.

I'd be very deliberately continuing to send them in to be honest

SilverBirchWithout · 18/01/2023 11:54

I would be spending the next few months planning what other ‘treat’ items to put in the lunch box once the Pringles are finished!

Idtotallybangdreamoftheendlessnotgonnalie · 18/01/2023 11:54

I'd reply back like she was joking- "haha you're so funny, these kids are crazy aren't they" sort of thing.

EL8888 · 18/01/2023 11:55

Why is this your problem?! She sounds bat shit

I guess I just don't understand the need for a passive aggressive response.

Yes she's being unreasonable and weird.

But surely you just clearly state your actual response, which is 'no', move on and don't engage.

Being passive aggressive and weird back to her just opens it up for more communication.

Because sometimes batshittery needs to be played with. When its Top Level batshittery, it’s fun to wind them up even further!

DilemmaDelilah · 18/01/2023 11:57

I don't understand.... What are 'left over pringles''? Never had such a thing in this household 😆

Mummybearto3bg · 18/01/2023 11:57

You sure she's not joking? As in please stop sending your kid with pringles cus now he thinks I'm a shit mum 🤣

Pearlygates · 18/01/2023 11:57

I can't even believe this 😂
The cheek!

Verbena17 · 18/01/2023 11:57

This must be a wind up!
Stand up for yourself and tell her where to go - she’s cuckoo!

Bloopsie · 18/01/2023 11:57

Uhm.. reply that there are some in Tescos/Morrisons/Asda/Sainsburys/Coop/any corner shop. Lol

Lemons1571 · 18/01/2023 11:57

My kids are admittedly a bit older. They have own brand crisps at their disposal. If they moaned and wanted Pringles, they are free to purchase these out of their allowance. Strangely enough, when using their own money is suggested, branded crisps are suddenly much less appealing 😂

BlackForestCake · 18/01/2023 11:58

One of DS's friends takes sushi to school. He's jealous. I just told him that sushi is a treat for us because it's expensive and way out of my budget.

If your DS is old enough maybe he would like to learn to do his own sushi – costs pennies if you make it yourself.

"Hi X. Thanks for your message, I'm sorry X junior is experiencing jealousy, it's a hard emotion to help them navigate isn't it? Pringle Jr and I are happy with his lunch box and it meets school requirements. Best wishes"

I wouldn't engage any further.

Yes I think something like this is good. As others have said, mortified for her that she thought this was a reasonable thing to send.

Gotta be a joke 😂😂😂I refuse to believe she was being serious

ofwarren · 18/01/2023 11:59

That's actually hilarious 😂

Hm2020 · 18/01/2023 11:59

i used to have a special Pringles packed lunch container in the 90s in my packed lunch. People are weird my sons school won’t allow crips otherwise he’d have them in his packed lunch.

MrsRinaDecker · 18/01/2023 11:59

I understand the need for a more conciliatory message, I don’t like conflict either, and especially when op is new to the school. I’d maybe go with you’ve checked the school policy, they’re definitely ok, blah blah blah, type response. (It’s still a totally unreasonable request though!)

noimaginationforausername · 18/01/2023 12:00

I'd send him with the whole tube tomorrow!

Seriously though it's your kids packed lunch and you can put whatever you want in in (obviously following my school rules 🙄).

BunchHarman · 18/01/2023 12:00

Jesus, what would possess someone to send that message? What a fucking maniac.

Tamarindtree · 18/01/2023 12:00

How utterly ridiculous. I would send more Pringles in!

IsItThough · 18/01/2023 12:01

"I've checked with school policy and crisps are allowed smiley face"

says you are being ludicrous and I am going to ignore your ludicrousness, without saying you are being ludicrous

send him with a whole tube on Friday

Rainallnight · 18/01/2023 12:01

She’s going to find parenting a long and difficult road if she needs to approach everyone allowing their children to do things hers aren’t allowed.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 18/01/2023 12:01

I'm yet to meet one of these mums in the wild but I'm so ready to!

Newmum0322 · 18/01/2023 12:02

JudgeRudy · 18/01/2023 11:30

CF! I'd be inclined to give a 1 word answer...NO

This… but follow it up with “and I didn’t give you my number, nor permission to use it. Please don’t use it again!”.

MrsRinaDecker · 18/01/2023 12:03

Don’t know what Pringles pp is looking at, but sour cream and onion has 1.9 saturates per portion, so hardly horrendous!
