To think my hairdresser is taking the piss?

I’m trying to get my hair lifted light enough to go silver.

I’ve just been 2 weeks ago to the hairdresser and had a toner put on (no bleach, not had bleach for 3 months) and it cost £100. The toner has already washed out. Fine I kind of expected it.

I’ve text her to arrange a bleach session and she said I should wait even longer and just have toner again. £100 for something that lasts two washes. And she said my hair isn’t in good condition. My hair seems fine to me, don’t get me wrong it’s not 10/10 health but it’s hardly candy floss.

Go to a different hairdresser for a second opinion?

freeandfierce · 14/01/2023 23:26

Hairdresser here. You got stung, toners cost from £5-£10 to purchase so £100 is excessive. Your hair looks ok on the photo but hard to comment without testing it. Go somewhere else, ask for a free consultation before committing to booking an appointment. A good stylist will test it during consultation.

Justdontbejudgy · 14/01/2023 23:28

I'm paying similar for a cut and semi permanent colour while I let blonde highlights grow out on my brown hair. It does feel like a bit of a rip off, but I'd recommend sulfate free shampoo and less washing. Dry shampoo is your friend here. The colour lasts much longer.

Out of curiosity how much would you charge for a full head bleach?

It cost me £250. I’m located in West Midlands as obvs location plays a part in price.

My full head highlights plus a cut costs about £70

I am going longer between hair washing … maybe 4 days now. I can’t use dry shampoo as it’s just not good for your hair/scalp. Because I’m having it bleached I need to work extra hard to get my length back and keep the thickness.

I’m impatient but I’ve been trying to get to this colour since August and I’m fed up of having a colour I don’t like for now 6 months. Im tempted to dye it back brunette.

One hundred pounds for a TONER?

I had a full head of highlights, toner, cut and restyle last week for £55. My hairdresser is excellent and I am very lucky to have found her. But £250?! What the fuck are they using

Where are you located? Obviously prices will differ depending.

Well it was £92 - and no cut as I specifically said do not cut anything off it. I’m not going to book another toner. I can find someone else to do that.

I just want to get the colour I want 🙄

I have silver colour foil highlights at hairdresser then use a toner myself after about 4 weeks or whenever to lift it and get rid of any 'yellow' tones. £3 from Home Bargains and works a treat.

£100 ?? Rip off.

Onegingerhead · 14/01/2023 23:39

I pay £100 full head highlights AND toner. East of England.
£100 for just a toner? She was taking the piss….

What do you do about your roots?

What brand toner do you use? Hook me up please 😅

Yeah. It’s my bad for not checking the price. I’m more annoyed that she’s trying to get me book I for the exact same thing when it’s not what I want under the guise of my hair being in too bad condition.

South East. Surrounding salons are in the £140 range for the services I have, but she is self employed and has an enormous client base so she can afford to be more reasonable with her pricing. She is honestly the best colourist I’ve ever been to and I have been to a lot.

TiredandLate · 14/01/2023 23:43

£100 for a toner is daylight robbery. I pay £70 for a full head of highlights + cut + blower, I think a toner is £10.

Hi, for your length around £50 (excluding cut), toners are charged at £10 plus depending how much we use. Bleach is fairly cheap even the good stuff with bond builder in, it's more the time the application and processing costs. I'm in Leicestershire.

middleager · 14/01/2023 23:47

Sorry, I assumed you were transitioning to grey, not dyeing silver, please ignore!

BluIsTheColour · 14/01/2023 23:49

Def go somewhere else. Those prices are shocking k thought my hairdresser was expensive at £45 just for cut and blow dry but that's taking the piss!

I have my hair bleached and tonered for £70 ...it takes a while as my hair doesn't lift easily. Your hairdresser is taking the piss . I would get some of this purple shampoo/conditioner...does the job of a toner, but a lot cheaper.

Do you think I’d be able to buy products at maybe Sallys to do my roots?

Or can you have a toner and root touch up?
