Would you want to be famous but not rich?

DH and I disagree on this.

Most people in the world appear to want to be rich and famous for obvious reasons. Obviously, many people will comment now that they don’t want fame or money and that’s clearly fine and personal preference but, in the main and in my experience, people do want that.

I think, however, most people who want to be rich and famous wouldn’t want to be famous without being rich. DH thinks people would still choose to be famous even if they weren’t rich.

So, if you’re someone who wants to be rich and famous, would you still want to be famous if you were only as rich as you are now?

YABU - Famous is famous, make me famous
YANBU - Give me the money, fame without money would suck

It would depend why I was famous. If it was for inventing nuclear fusion and I’d be a global hero then bring it on. If it was for something embarrassing, then no

I have some pretty famous family and friends. The fame is awful. Constantly on your guard , being careful what you say or do ALL the time

Ugh I cannot understand why anyone would want to be famous, anyway - I love my privacy! But famous with no compensatory dosh?? - surely the worst of both worlds!

I'd like to be rich, not famous, but someone who mixes with famous people. Maybe a successful songwriter or similar, so still get invited to events and parties, have influence, but be able to walk down the street with no hassle.

I wouldn’t mind being famous for finding a cure for cancer or saving someone’s life. I wouldn’t want to be famous for something outrageous.

If I was going to be famous then I'd want it to be for something worthwhile. I wouldn't want to be famous for being on Love Island for example. That would be more important than the money I think. But I wouldn't complain if that came along with it.

I can't express how much I would hate being famous, even slightly well known in a small town would be utterly vile.

I know someone who is both famous and rich. Very. Apparently, it isn't all it's cracked up to be. I've seen some of the paparazzi shenanigans with my own eyes. Give me anonymity and extreme wealth poverty any day.

Nope, I would tolerate being famous if it meant I could be rich, but I wouldn't put myself through it without the financial benefit

Someone I know is a fairly well known stage actor and one of his issues is that people just assume, because he's visible, he has lots of money, when he most certainly doesn't. People expect him to pay for their drinks and meals but he can't afford to.
